Simply, this is the best setting to take photos.

I just laugh at those who recommend A, S or P over the auto green thing to beginners.

Just got a DSLR camera and plan to take lots of pictures, however, I use Linux as my OS.

Any good/decent software for photographers in Linux? Ala Lightroom and such?

Darktable, Hugin, Gimp - ImageMagick if you like the console
>>
>>2972968

plus Rawtherapee, then you can freely get frustrated over them and will be forced to install LR+PS on a Windows 7 secondary partition.
Been there, done that, lost half my shots then went over to Win 7 with my photography schenanigans.
In this business the photo is what counts, no need for /g/ tier OS whoring.
BTW when you DO try to use Darktable don't ever, ever, ever touch the fringing and CA removing modules, somehow the DT coders though it would be wise to remove half the color palette with those modules. Sure it cancels most of the CA and fringing but you will be left with shitty muddy nocolor photos.
And only use profile noise reduction.
>>
>>2972968
AfterShot Pro 3 or Polarr might be a choice if you want a somewhat basic but fast workflow.

Otherwise mainly Darktable - but I'd not consider it great yet.

Rawtherapee / Photivo / UFRaw / Rawstudio are generally pretty weird tools. I don't like them.

Frankly, the best option is probably DXO Optics Pro on a virtual machine and then just use the function to display the program in its own window under Linux in "unity"/"seamless" mode.

I could really use some help, I'm extremely into photography, and all I have is a Fujifilm Finepix S4000. I was wondering if this is an adequate DSLR or if I should consider getting a new one.

Looks like your camera is fine, the only real thing I see that's bad with it is the jagged edges of long distance things which can always be fixed through computer programs!
>>
>>2972859
Thank you, what computer program would be useful for something like that? I have photoshop.
>>
>>2972860
Photoshop should be good! I don't remember the exact settings that smooth edges but I know it's in there somewhere.

I've listed photography as a hobby for many years, but haven't been out and taken any snapshits in about 12 months, mainly because I am a lazy procrastinator, but somewhat because I just seem to have lost interest, despite still loving the actual topic.

I recent got a deal on a Pantecks K-3 ii (I like Pentax). I only have a few lenses at the moment; Tampon 90mm f/2.8 macro, 18-55mm kit lens, and the Pentax 50mm f/1.8.

I life in the UK, and not a very exciting part for that matter. I need ideas to get me back out there, as I refuse to believe I'm completely done, shitty skill level or not.

Anybody got any ideas to get me started? Anybody else had the same lapse?

Thanks

Thanks, it was in an abandoned hospital near where I live.

I got a job (which I still have) that destroys me mentally, resulting in me struggling to motivate myself at the weekend, but a lot of it is down to me being a bit lazy.

My problem is that I want to go shoot something that will motivate me, something cool, but I just can't think of anything. I used to shoot a lot of wildlife, but I've not got the money for a long lens at the moment, and sold my last one a while back.

I know the spark is still inside me, I'm just badly struggling to reignite it.
>>
>>2972888
Ah. I can definitely empathize with that. I live at home at am currently unemployed after being tired of treated like shit at work which always seems to happen to me. I'm always bullied. I plan on making photography my everything.

Maybe you should quit man, lifes too short. I hated myself working 40 hours if I was lucky just to pay rent and bills. I had no fucking ambition in that hell.

It's a way to get some money off the brand, while film is slowly dying out. Holla was always about shitty quality, weird colors, random light leaks. You can't emulate that with digital.

just wondering what ISO levels are common for verry overcast days. I just go my first DSLR yesterday (black friday sale :)
>>
>>2972616
Yeah dude 1250 is way too much, just don't use 1/500th of a second shutter speed. At f/10 on overcast you'd probably just need like 1/30th of a second at 100 ISO or 1/60th of a second at 200 ISO.

1250 ISO is overkill for the middle of the day.
>>
>>2972620
I had no idea what iso to use so i just adjusted my aperture and shutter to go with 1000 XD But after looking at the photos I knew I goofed. Thanks for the tip :)

Recently my GH4 has started to do this, at first simply turning it off and back on or doing a pixel refresh would fix it but now it seems to be permanent. Is this a sensor issue or what am I looking at here?

Put it into A to control the depth of field, S to control the motion (crisp or blurred), Shoot RAW and process in Lightroom
Learn "exposure triangle" and watch beginners tutorials on photography and Lightroom on Youtube
Get the Adobe CC for photographers monthly subscription, it is essentially goes for pennies.
Read Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson
Here are a few links collection on beginner tutorials:
http://petapixel.com/2014/07/03/best-free-online-photography-courses-tutorials/
Expect to have a lot of failures but don't give up, shoot, then shoot more. It takes a lot of experience to deliver the shots you want.
And have fun.
