making a campfire outside of a state camping spot is illegal in my area, how far away from trails do I have to go to avoid being caught and how can i dissipate the smoke?
>>938894
Use the driest wood you can and dig a Dakota fire hole to eliminate smoke. Walk off the trail until you can't see it anymore. Then go another 50 yards and you'll be good. It would help if you were down wind from the trail as well.

thank you
If you want to go super stealth, sit in a bivy bag, light up an ethanol stove and sleep while your food cooks. make sure all the bag zips are shut. keep all that oxygen in!! Bring your dog too so it dosent get pepper sprayed or body slammed by a passer byer
Anyone heat their own home, heat their water, and cook mostly with logs?
How many logs do you go through in a year? How many trees?
Tips?
Being a NEET most if my life, I'm swinging towards the opposite direction. I want full independence. And that means energy independence too.
I just want to know how much fuel it'll take and if it can be replenished naturally.
Binfuels derived from short rotation coppice is feasible. Silviculture requires.much more space and time investment.
Why do you assume burning wood is sustainable or deemed energy independent?
I would go for whatever is complementary to your property (not that you have one, need faggot).
You've only considered heating, if you consider electricity you're going to want to diversify your energy supply. Imo PV systems are the best solution in terms of output and cost.

Fucking auto correct.
*bio fuels

People do the whole paper log thing, but honestly, I think it would smell really bad.

Ghillie kettle or trangia set
>>938473
Wut is that shit on the top left corner of your screen?
And these contraptions are goofy as fuck. How big is that thing and how much water does it actually boil? Cool idea but when you are trying to pack small and light it just seems like a quart stainless pan would be a better idea.
>>938486
>as if
>small and light
>why
>>938486
I hadnt heard of the ghillie kettele until i saw the shit on how its made. I was wondering how good it is.
Hi /out/ i fucking love these beans, i could eat them every day and not get tired of them.
I intend to store enough canned food and water to last a couple weeks if SHTF. These beans will be my staple. Unfortunately i dont know shit about nutrients. Can you tell me what i should supplement this with? Like protein powder or canned fruits etc.
>inb4 youll die
No, theres that news article on the guy who ate nothing but beans for a few decades
>bean-filled pancakes
uncontrollablevomiting.jpg
A man can live off of butter, potatoes, and water alone.
Pretty sure them beans got more and diverse nutrients than butter and potatoes so you should be fine.
You will need to add garlic for maximum musical benefits
Is there any group of outdoorsmen in the US that
>Don't do drugs
>Aren't soy-latte-sipping urbanite trash
>Don't steal
>Don't litter
>Understand the science behind environmentalism and don't take trash science like "climate change" at face value and declare it a negative thing that humans cause
>trash science like "climate change" at face value and declare it a negative thing that humans cause
Fine. Keep denying facts and living in a fairy tale.
As for your original q: sorry, no idea.
>>937328
The republican par... Oh wait, you said "don't steal", nevermind.
You know what we need? A dating site for those who like to be out. But then again, I don't get around on the internet too much, so maybe there is one that you sc/out/s could point me to. Anyway, Discuss!

desu the best method I've found is the long con. Make whomever you meet want to be /out/ camping, backpacking or whatever over a few years. If that isn't your taste then find a partner that does these sorts of things through a club/organization/etc.
>>937186
The last part is the truest part. As much as dating sites like to bleat about their success rates, you're still far more likely to meet a S.O. through real world socializing.
Move to Oregon or Washington.
Done with modern life, paying bills, traffic, job, TV, all this horseshit. It doesn't feel normal, even being on the internet. I don't feel depressed but I'm just done with it all. Planning on getting away from everything, not telling anyone in my family where I'm going or even that I'm leaving, I live on my own so they won't notice for a while, but I'm thinking grand canyon (somehwere close to where the picture is) or one of the national parks to live off the land. Anyone ever tried this or have any tips?

>you may not be liying, but you are faking.
Why do you want to hurt them?
>>935550
Btw, the Havasu Tribe will kick you out.
>Be uni fag
>Uni is built in the middle of a forest so I go innawoods for day trips to study
>Sleep out there every now and then
>Find a great spot in the middle of the forest where no one goes
>Tell a normie friend about it
>She tells are her friends and they all start going
>They start going in packs of 15, carve a path through the snow and trees
>They go to my spot, take a pictures of them holding coffee cups and leave
>They somehow manage to leave piles of garbage even though they're there for less than an hour
>They post pics to fecesbook, more and more normies start coming out
>My spot is now polluted to shit, the rest of the forest either has normies trekking through it or is near a major road and loud as fuck
How do I get the normies to stay /in/? Is my spot just fucked forever?
Pic related, it was my spot before normies
>>935422
judging by the visual appeal of your spot, I don't think it will keep their interest for long. My advise is to wait it out.
>>935422
Normies use people to get what they want and then discard them the same way they discard a coffee cup once it's empty. Don't associate with these people, they're parasites.
You'll find a much nicer area to spend your out time, and when you do, I hope you'll have learned from this. I disappear for months at a time, telling no one where I'm going; it's always exactly the way I left it.
>>935422
Find s new spot, don't tell anyone. Read this and take it to heart for all situations.
Is metal detecting the ultimate outdoors hobby?
pic related I just picked up a 340$ garret and I've already found about 50$ in coins in just 2 weeks of huntin'
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D0NXYL0/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=marketorder-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B01D0NXYL0&linkId=0b8c75bd6e4c534a456319b861019b10
my dad does it, if you are serious about it and know where to walk, then you can make your money back, he found atleast +5 grand in 2 years of spare time hunting
Garretts are probably the best metal detectors for starters

I'm a britfag farmer. Shit's cold yo.
>>931608
I fix computers and sell liquid armor, sometimes I look at the small patch of trees across the way :'(
Central European here. There are like.. three /out/ working positions in total for the next 500km, each requiring a 3 year long training period with minimal pay. Shit sucks.
Anyone in the states adopting?
Lets talk about our saws and protective equipment.
My setup:
Husq 359
Husq technical trousers, classic jacket, functional helmet and some random work boots.
Any good chainsaw boots y'all know of? Thinking of Andrew or Meindl
>>931605
Hedgelaying is my usual saw work.
Stihl MS170
Stihl helmet and pants.
Now that I think of it, all the saw gear i use is more or less the cheapest stihl stuff.
Love the little 170 though, it's a back-saver.
Stihl MS362
Husq helmet
Stihl chaps
Just got a stump vice and one of those all in one sharpeners
>>931656
Meh, i just carry a Husq file with the little red handle and the little file guide, not really into the fancy sharpeners
i miss you..
where are you???
please post a new video.

He went completely off grid.
apparently him and Alfie are hot & heavy and so they don't have time for us anymore
Proper hiking boots thread! Share the images of your boots, recommendations, tips and so on.
I wear trail runners. No reason for boots at all, even in the winter.
>>925539
Well I like fixed ankle because I often walk in the forests and mountains. Also, aren't your feet just soaked and sore after your hike? In these I could walk through the shallow creek and I wouldn't feel a drop of water on my socks.
I'd love to try these sometimes. Expensive as hell but as I've heard and read nearly indestructible and comfy
