Hey /out/ can anyone give me a hand identifying this plant?
Found it yesterday in Northwest Missouri in a wooded location with lots of hills and bluffs.
Its a dandylion
>>942842
Lies, its a wild yam.
Looks to be a wild tostada
Hey sc/out/s. Long time, no post. I'm heading to Seattle and Vancouver in May. Can you recommend some good hiking and camping spots? I really want to go to Rainier, but I have the feeling it'll be crowded, same with Olympia.
>>942432
>rainier
Well, you can see it for miles, when it's not cloudy.
Follow your nose?
Buy trail book, find trail. Can you stand a $12 trail book on your $xxx vaca?
Why so hard?
Stevens Pass
>>942435
We'll I can buy a book with hundreds of trails marked or get a few recommendations from people who know where the best are.
You tell me?
show me your minimalist bushcraft kit
>>942420
A swiss army knife with a saw, and a file for sharpening.
Im buying a Jervenbag this week for use as a sleeping bag, tarp, poncho, shelter.
Getting the Hunter model for more coverage and sleeping bag capability.

overpriced but looks mad comfy
How good are these packs? I'm looking to possibly buy one of their trekking packs for extended trips in the outdoors. Anyone own one?
I've owned a lot of different packs, most of them while I worked as a guide for big outfitter in Alaska.
MR is good. They make a top quality pack and they are fairly well thought out. I still own a Crewcab, because it is a very heavy duty pack that is very versatile. I can pack for a three day hunting trip with the cargo section folded in or stuffed with my tent or something, and if I kill something pack out the meat with it. Nothing else I have found fits the niche.
Drawbacks on the crewcab is that it really needs load lifters and it is heavy as shit. I never take it for anything that requires climbing.
Outside of that I haven't kept any MR packs. Not that they are bad, I just liked others better. I still have an old school Kifaru spiekcamp, the one wth the internal frame. Really svelte pack good for overnight trips. Super comfortable and can carry much heavier loads that a pack that size really should.
My absolute #1 favorite right now is a Seek Outside Revo 6300. The thing is water resistant so you don't need a pack cover, the suspension is really flexible and articulates like nothing else, and it is very comfortable with a load. Lightweight as shit and seems to be pretty tough from what I have seen so far.
I have used MR and Kifaru and Stone Glacier and Kuiu and HPG and Exo and Tarryall and some shit I am probably forgetting, and SO it the best of them all so far.
If they're made in Bozeman I can only assume they're overpriced and overhyped
>>942401
Have you tried or know anyone who has used the Unaweep 6300? I've been looking on their site and it looks nice. Also how did you get into becoming a guide? Do you make a living from it? Thanks
I want a fridge full of bear meat
tips on hunting bears?
legality in certain locations?
best locations for brown/kodiak/grizzly?
accepted methods of hunting?
tips/techniques for packing out?
tips on field dressing a bear?
I'm thinking some sort of sled or a wagon is going to be necessary to carry out the entire bear
anyone have experience hunting bears? is baiting legal?
>>942175
Baiting is likely illegal, but check your local regulations. Bears don't have great eyesight but the have excellent hearing and smell so try to stay down wind of them if you're planning an approach or are stalking one.
Bear meat is delicious.
Itt: venomous animals you hope you never run into while /out/
>The blue-ringed octopus, despite its small size, carries enough venom to kill twenty-six adult humans within minutes. Their bites are tiny and often painless, with many victims not realizing they have been envenomated until respiratory depression and paralysis start to set in.[8] No blue-ringed octopus antivenom is available yet, making it one of the deadliest reef inhabitants in the ocean.
You forget the bit where it gives you the appearance of being dead, while being fully conscious
>>941623
Jesus Christ how horrifying. Why don't we just extinct these animals?
>>941631
They're beautiful... and if they're like every other octopus I've spent time with.... shy as fuck. I'd be interested in the statistics of blue ring octopus caused deaths. And the details if there are any deaths... like "i just wanted to durr hold it."
Still voting we do away with mosquitoes if we're picking things to kill.
Why so many people on /out/ seem to hate the ocean?
They do? I've never seen people hate it. To me the ocean is even more ideal than anywhere else in the world, because it's massive, it's easy to hide, there's no roads, normalfags stick to their big party boats close to shore. It's the free mans paradise. Not without risk, as freedom never is, but if you like adventure, it's a risk worth taking.
>>940233
because they want to manly mountain men. ocean going shit is very manly though. diving, freediving, sailing, surf fishing, ocean kayaking...if only they knew. i feel you anon.
>>940233
because the ocean's fucked m8
ABSOLUTE MADMAN
>>939364
lol forgot link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZXUCQc2Z78&t=0s
yo what's up? it's an ok video
>>939395
Nothing to sensational. Using the strips of tree bark to make a bed was pretty cool.
What's your favorite type of formation (or wall)?
How much does it realistically cost to get into climbing?
>>937041
>columnar basalt
Nice!
>>937059
Depends on what you want to do.
Just bouldering all you need are shoes and eventually a chalk bag.
Add a harness for roped gym climbing.
If you go outside you'll need a rope, belay device, carabiners, quick draws and slings/ runners.
This is assuming you're buying your own gear.
If you're interested in mountaineering/alpinism it costs a lot.
>Hitchhiking across Europe
Hey dudes feeling like having an adventure this summer, have any of you ever done it?
I have hitchhike before but mostly local trips never /out/side my country so how is it like in central Europe?
>>936386
Prolly run into alot of chaps that don't speak English.
>>936420
This. Learn some Polish
>>936386
I have hitchhiked in The Netherlands (dutchie here), Belgium, France and Germany. Which languages do you speak and where are you planning to go?
I've recently gotten into the habit of walking around New York City at night. I haven't gone very far yet, on account of the cold. Does anyone else do this?
No one else walks in the city at night.
It's only you OP,
You faggot.
>>931936
Miami is too wide and not as dense as that shithole, but driving around at night is quite peaceful. Even in hectic areas like South Beach it's nice
>>931936
>sydney
>step outside for a walk
>get stabbed by some somalian fella
no thanks
What kind of bug is this? It bit me in the face
>>942479
Assassin Bug, maybe a Zelus.
>>942481
Is the bite for the most part harmless?
>>942485
They can spread Chagas Disease. If it starts swelling, see a doctor ASAP.
Hey /out/ists, I've just moved up to papamoa from Palmerston North and I'm trying to find some nice places to camp or bushcraft or whatever or even meet up
Dunno if this is the right place or board for it but worth a try
>>941828
Papamoa? Up near the Land of the Orcs?
No wonder you sadpost.
>>941868
trust me its better than the grey as fuck rainy farm town i moved from
>>941874
Well, Ok, Palmy is nothing special. Even John Cleese reckoned it was a perfect town to commit suicide in.
Maybe you should have moved south instead of north? Not that it's been much of a rain free year down here either.
Do you have your nuke innawoods plans?
I'm putting mine together and I'm thinking of the remote parts of the northern Allegheny Mountains
>>941769
I'm planning on just making peace with my God and calling it a day, should such a thing come to pass.
>>941769
I live in a city that's a top priority target after command centers, etc. I take comfort in knowing I'll be vaporized before I know anything's happening.
814 OP?
