Anyway I'm going to pick Greg. He lives his life a loner and is from Canada. And like last year I predict no females will make it, and not being racist, but neither will the black guy.

And what kinda retard runs around on the wet ground with stumps and stuff carrying sharp tools.

i vote for the chick that was swimming naked. because naked ass.

Les Stroud had a tough time in Patagonia when Survivorman went there. Terrible weather, but I think he was a lot further south. damn near Antarctica.

the women seem a lot stronger this year in general skills.

after 3 seasons it's nice to hear people talking about PRESERVING their catch instead of living fish to fish.

Looks like we got our "I miss Barbara" guy out of the way early.

The forestry chick is a milf. 10/10 would do in the woods after 90 days of no bath.

How do I deal with feet soil blisters? Is this common?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>933826
You shouldn't be getting them, your shoes might not fit right or be tied right or you're wearing 2 socks or something.

Best you can do it drain it leaving the skin on, then cover it up with a blister pad or moleskin and try not to make it any worse. Uncover at night so it gets some air.

Hello /out/ists, I'm looking to buy a good durable multi use pair of pants for /out/ing. Most of my activities are done hiking/backpacking in the Sierras in California, with the occasional scrambling here and there, I also do some mountaineering in the winter months of the year and a few trips every year to Oregon and Arizona. would appreciate pants made of at least water resistant material that doesn't involve the whole wax applying meme. Which leads me to my only concern about fjallraven, I've been looking at their Vidda Pro and Keb Trousers. I'm working with a budget of $200-300 USD. Is Fjallraven the best option for my mentioned activities and the buget I'm working with? Are there other similar brands models I could choose from that offer durability, ruggedness, water resistant and breathable material?
21 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Fjallraven are either water resistant or breathable, depending on if you used wax or not. The money is far better spent on softshell pants, rab or me or something. More water reistant, breathable, comfortable and lighter. You can prolly get two pairs for 300 dolaroos
>>
Fjallraven pants are the most comfortable /out/ pants ive worn.
10/10 would recommend.

Their shorts are also super nice to wear during summer.

But they are very European in size and if you are a manlet i wouldnt reccomend.

If you are lucky like me and there is a fjallraven store nearby would reccomend you try them on first.
>>
>>933402
Fuck off, softshells don't hold up to real use.
OP get a pair of fjällräven Barents Pro, and some trouser blousers to go with them. Literally best trousers you can get, and only run like 130€

Didn't see much in the catalog on the subject, so I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread.

Any advice/experience for general life in AK? I was thinking of moving near a touristy hunting spot for various reasons and was wondering what THE place to be is for the largest variety of sport.

I'm in alaska right now. I live in a very small village of about a hundred people in the middle of the state thats very far from the city, you have to take two planes to get here. I used to live in the largest city for a number of years in the south and I grew up in a small town of about 5000 people in the west. I've only visited as far north as Fairbanks once for a week. I've been to a lot of the surrounding places in the circles I drew on a map. Will you have a boat? A 4 wheeler? A truck? Are you just looking to rent from tourist companies? What are you trying to get into? Hunting? Fishing?

Alright guys, I like /out/ings as much as anyone, and get innawoods, sleep in my bivvy and love my dented old trangia.

This said, WTF IS WITH BATONING?

Every time I see Americans (mostly) pull out a knife, ya'll start trying to slam it through a bit of wood.

Aussie here, and our wood is either so damn hard there's no point in this, or it's so soft/flammable/fluffy that this doesn't make sense.

Either way, why? I've put my knife through all sorts of bollocks over the years but it doesn't make sense.

Batoning is a survival skill for when you don't have the right tool for the job
It's just been pushed in media and YouTube a lot for the last 10 years

I've only used it once when carving a hardwood branch into a bow, didn't use too much force and would not try to split a log with it

So /out/, I'm going to stay at a cabin for 2 nights at my first trip to the snow with my friends. What should I take? The forecast says its going to be snowing pretty heavily and that the temparature is going to hit 16 degrees Fahrenheit. I've never been in that type of weather before.

My goal is to just have a casual and relaxing time.

Hey /out/, I'm trying to build a first-aid kit to take innawoods on long hikes lasting more than a week. I don't want to spend $25 on a bunch of fucking band-aid containers like the ones you find on amazon, (pic related), but I have no idea what specifically should go into a kit.
I need a container that fits easily into a backpack, but I still need it to hold enough stuff to save my life if I get fucked by mother nature at some point.
What types of bandages, swabs, first-aid-types of things should realistically go into the kit? How many of those things?
Thanks in advance.

Don't put anything in your FAK you don't know how to use safely.
This goes for things (tourniquets, quik-clot, etc) and medications.

So get some training first, know how to properly stabilize and treat common injuries.

My riding FAK is pretty basic - couple different sizes of bandages, gauze, vetwrap, athletic tape, ibuprofen, aleve, bendaryl, alcohol wipes... trauma shears... nitrile gloves...

I've improvised a sling out of a motorcycle tire tube. Put your camelbak on the ground, a little pressure from your knee can easily flush out a wound.

I carry a sugary snack - fruit snacks or jello work well. If you're with a diabetic, that can come in handy.

Add in some common sense beforehand too. Don't do anything dumb that'd require the use of your FAK, but know accidents do happen.
>>
>>932736
That's like saying you're buying your first vehicle and don't know what to get. You'll just get a lot of really strong opinions from people who have no idea what your personal and individual needs will be.

I personally go much lighter than most people are willing to. I carry a red handkerchief, ethanol, some painkillers and some anti-diarrhetics. Anything that won't kill me on the spot anyway can at least be mitigated long enough to get me to a hospital with just those four items, if not taken care of completely.

And now, the flood of "trained field medics" that will tell you you'll die if you don't carry a SAM splint and ten packs of Quick-Clot, and of course you need the training to use everything properly, so don't leave the house yet!

lol. Had I not reread that before hitting 'send', the timing would have been perfect.

Also, yeah... Benadryl isn't a bad idea; reduces everything from serious allergens to mosquito bites, I thought I was missing something.

/Out/ camping in Pololu valley on the Big Island of Hawaii, after staying up late and encountering 2 large centipedes in and around our tent we decide to pack up and leave at 3-4AM. On our exit when we were almost towards the top of the valley we took a break, sat down and looked far along the coast several valleys further than where we were camping and noticed around 15 to 20 little flickering torch lights slowing moving along the jagged cliff edges of the valleys. Those valleys are for experienced hikers only. I don’t really believe in the Hawaiian night marchers but I don’t know of any hikers doing that treacherous journey during that hour in the dark and using torches instead of headlamps.

What gloves does /out/ use?
I hear mechanix are good but there's roughly 3 million different types.

Regular leather work gloves.
For winter gloves, either leather work gloves with a liner glove underneath, or Black Diamond Dirt Bag.

Okay. So I have no farm experience whatsoever, but I want to give it a shot since I feel like i'd be able to handle the physical labor involved and I've always had a mild interest in farm life.

I started applying for apprentice/intern positions on farms and I was hoping someone here has some first hand experience and could offer some advice so I can better mentally prepare myself for the work ahead.
8 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Prepare to work really hard for a really low income.

I was raised in a farm, the hardest things for our interns was the remote and lonely life with little confort and close to no money.

Loneliness is a big part of farming ppl's life, it can hit real hard. At that time if you dont have a plan B to get out of there it'll break you.
>>
>>932303
Remote life sounds comfy to me personally and I'm used to having no money, it's not about the money for me, I just feel like I was built for that kind of work.

Though having a plan B is a good idea I might just jump in an never look back, there's nothing here for me in the first place, I see no reason to plan a return before I apprenticeship is done
>>
>>932502

>>932303
me again.

Doing an aprenticeship is very good choice of yours and congratulations for it.

The main thing that stopped me from staying there and work is the little prospect for decent money that would insure a decent retirement.
Also, as a student I was dead broke, which taught me good lessons, but it would have been nice that my parents could pay at least the deposit for my place.

Quality of life is top notch, nature is a bitch when your a farmer, but a blessing when shit works well.

Best of luck with your plan.
