Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Ugh, why your own threads. Always with the new threads. Just post in draw general and don't shoot yourself in the foot by making a new thread.

If you're looking for critiques you should post in the Draw Thread rather than make your own thread. Most people won't notice it just floating out here.

Hey guys! What do you do to warm up? What helps you loosen up before you start drawing? What helps you find 'your voice' when painting? Do you look at other people's work for help?

Do you ever feel that sometimes adhering rigidly to rules stops you from being able to express yourself freely? What do you do when that happens?

Asking because I'm an Entertainment student and I'm having a tough time freeing myself from my influences/rules enough to express myself. Alot of times I just end up trying to follow all the rules so exactly that I don't end up saying anything with my work. (That being said, I am still learning the rules)

I end up being jealous of people whose works aren't industry standard, but are beautiful and expressive. Don't want to be them but want to have that freedom, how do IC how do?!

Pic related-my work.

Visions swarmed the jungle's screaming night as I sat gaping goggle-eyed, vomit drool hanging from my lip, the shaman's song blasting my mind apart, and he wasn't a man at all but an enormously serpentine undulation studded with a thousand kaleidoscopic eyes!

Maybe. But I would advise you to try the exercises as best you can. You may learn a thing or two instead of twiddling your thumbs looking for a shortcut.

You could try working through Ernest R. Norling's, Perspective Made Easy and then make your way back How to Draw.

I swear by How to Draw, it's one of those rare eye-opening texts in an ocean of shitty informercial-tier instructionals. How to Render is great too.

Have you ever lost respect to an artist you looked up to?

What wrongdoings would force you to do so?
74 posts and 11 images submitted.

I pretty quickly lose respect for artists who start blasting their political opinions down my throat, made worse by the "if you don't agree with me the unfollow button is right there!" Tumblr can be bad for this with some people.

Even if I agree with them I tend to unfollow those jackasses. It takes a pretty skilled artist for me to be willing to put up with their grandstanding. I'll make an exception if their art makes political statements in a tasteful way, but I couldn't give less of a shit about them typing out paragraphs of political nonsense.
>>
>>2786051
This. All of it, to the letter.

Also blogposting facebook tier garbage more than posting art and art related garbage. There are ways to do this and your main site is not one of them.

Publicly circlejerking with a specific group of fans also turns me off, especially when it comes to randumb inside jokes also turns me away from artists. At least professionals have the decency to only do this IRL.

Why is everything on Artstation so fucking samey? It's like you're always looking at the same settings and same artists.

You can tell right away this was done by a korean because they all draw the same.
>sexy female in revealing fantastical clothes with big breasts
>gigantic muscled males with oversized armor
>everything looks perfectly plastic

Chinks all feed off each other too.

>really overdetailed fantasy scene
>all characters have the same chink face (a narrower version of the korean face)
>robes robes robes

>slav obsessed with futuristic/cyb settings
>androids with square heads
>bipedal mechs with chicken legs

Please don't tell me you guys want to become concept """artists""" too. This is the kind of shit that's ruining video games: unoriginality.

Does drawing from a picture of real life count as drawing from real life, do you reap the same benefits when practicing. Cause I don't know where I'm supposed to find naked women posing for me in sexual positions. Also what are good things to draw from real life to improve my abilities

when people say "drawing from life" they mean things in reality and not things drawn/created by someone else

draw literally anything from life to improve your knowledge of it and expand your visual library

tl;dr just fuckin draw innit

I can't even begin to fathom how to draw faces.
I'm slowly learning how to draw bodies, I enjoy using the method consisting of going from a curve to a figure (I think it's from Hampton ?)

But I really have a hard time with faces. I cold draw simple stylized faces for men, but it doesn't work for women, and anyway I want to have my own style for faces.

I'm not asking for .pdf, or books, but just how did you learn ? Using references isn't helping much because I don't really understand how the eye should be done for example.

draw lots of faces

understand how they work in 3d space

I decided to try something different with commissions from artists, after having some bad results from lost in translation explanations, I figure i'd find images where the pose or expression matched what i had in mind for the character and send this to artists for commissions removing any confusion about what was required.

Before going into custom characters i wanted to find out how artists would manage using a RL reference for more and more elements of a drawing and will post the results from the first artist.

I'd like some feedback and an explanation on the limits/ pros and cons of using detailed references for 2D art from an artists perspective. ie the reference providing 80-90% of information/ details needed for the result.

I'm on the 3D side of things and rely on 2D artists for concepts etc so what was important for me was creating a *model sheet* if you will to guide the 2D artist by the nose vs leaving much to their devices. No offence.

Image 2 reference, This image has allot going for it, Wanted to see if the artist could capture the look and feel with the transition. The 4th frame was meh 1st appealing by itself and feels separate from the rest others okay.

What is the best rendered piece of art ever? Doesnt have to be very large, just big enough.
