VR painting is going to replace 2d painting faster than anybody thought.
if you begin learning it right now, you'll get a place in the industry as easy as the guys that began doing digital painting in the late 90's, despite everbody saying it was nonsense.
>>2789673
I'm learning VR right now, but i really don't think it will replace 2d painting in my lifetime.
>>2789673
VR painting would be amazing for animation. No more rigs and their limitations, it'll be like traditional animation but with sculptures.
>>2789673
New techniques don't replace old ones. They get added to the old ones and are used when applicable. Do VR painting if you like it, but its not like its something you have to learn. Even learning digital 2d painting isn't strictly necessary.

Why is /ic/ triggered by artist that produce and successfully sell content of questionable quality?
[-]
Because they feel these people don't "deserve" it, when really neither financial success nor popularity are neccessarily linked to high quality.
>>2788928
I'm not. Those artists are just helping to hold the majority of my competition back.
how's it going /ic/
the artwork attached is by an artist named Kristian Russell. I came across him in one of my classes and as an uncreative engineer i'm inspired by his artwork. Specifically, i enjoy the way he makes use of arbitrary backgrounds to keep from drawing away from the focal point of interest - usually a lady figure. I really like the "juicy" colors he uses in his work as well, and the methods in which he uses 1-3 similar hues to create definition (in the related image, only 2 browns are used for the skin, only 2 blues for the jacket, 2 yellows for bikini).
Like i said, i'm an engineer and this is way out of anything ive studied before, but is there other artwork out there which is similar to this style? I really want to create a gallery of similar images for my computer's background, but anything i find by Russell is too little a resolution to fit my monitor. please help an art peasant?
I'm adding this image to help clarify what i pointed out as liking in my original post.
If i'm shitposting or disturbing the peace, let me know and i'll GTFO.
Sorry bro can't really help you, colors reminded me a little of Francois Nelly tho, but thanks for introducing anon to this artist

>engineer
Why is /ic/ full of engineers?
Anyways this is an interesting illustrator
>i have depression excuse
>>2787478
I had too, but i realised that im already legal aged and not gonna make it if I keep on sleeping and not studying. I decided that ill kill myself if im still shit by the end of 2018
It's an explanation, not an excuse.

Go to the doctor and get perception on meds then
>be me

>stumbled on "brekkist"
>you guys shiting on him
So I don't know the backstory or the whole picture, but I googled the guy, he can draw, good form and consistency.
And then I checked him out in Patreon as you guys mentioned it...
>$300
Is that normal for someone at his level?
Or did he make a much higher pay before, and some shit happened and now he's going down the drain?
That's the gist of what I could understand, from a thread / posts here a month ago.
I need the whole story, not just on this guy, but in general. (Artists on Patreon)
why aren't posts like this bannable?
>>2789926
Being an artist on patreon, especially a porn artist, is completely about visible consistency, hence why mediocre artists like Jeph Jacques and the hundred thousand furry fetish artists you've never heard of are leaders on patreon. People on the internet have the attention span of gnats, especially in the case of geek culture weirdos and perverts, and will immediately forget about you in a week regardless of skill level if you don't update. Brekkist is relatively good but can't keep a schedule for shit, and at the end of the day people only pay for a consistently proven product regardless of quality, just like in real jobs.
Now someone fucking sticky this so we don't have to repeat it for the millionth time.
/ic/ this is my first digital painting work in progress and I'm having trouble deciding if I should paint in gray-scale under my sketch lines and ink it after detailing or if should stick to painting broad colors and working down to the details. Also requesting advice in general, I've put over 5 hours on it already and would like to follow through. I know my colors are horrid as well...
>>2789041
>5 hrs on it already
Where? What has taken you 5 hrs to paint? Your perspective is off on everything and you aren't even using your grid correctly. Also, stay in grey scale, your values suck and you need to understand them before you go onto color.

Post your current drawing here and be an asshole to others!
Please make sure your posted image is clear, DOWNSIZED TO AROUND 1000 PIXELS WIDE, ROTATED TO THE CORRECT ORIENTATION, and that any unused space is cropped.
If you want critique on a drawing from the previous thread, you can delete it there and repost in this one and then kill yourself.

I'm thinking about pre-ordering this and using it in lieu of a tablet, but I feel like it might be too good to be true. What do you guys think?
>>2789662
It's overpriced. Just buy a microwaveable notebook and some frixion pens
>>2789679
But what excites me is that it's basically a tablet. I take a snapshot of my page and it digitizes it.
>>2789662
>"Generally users can expect 5-10 reuses." - Kickstarter
>Costs $27.00
>Requires microwave worth $20 - $100+
>Wide tip pen will make it harder to draw fine lines.
Get a tablet. It will last longer and is better.
I recently got into doing pixel art. I've never really shown any artistic prowess but I think I may have some talent with pixel art. I've made three works. Pic related is my latest. Please critique.
>>2789409
Check the pixelart basics - dithering to make proper shading and palette control to make colors less messy. Then pick style. If you want make more oldschool 16bit game style - try to make some sprites or game props. Try to dig some old japanese vn's there awesome techniques of dithering using. Just start with replicating another art. Learn tricks.
...to make any worth mentioning money (with commisionss or freelance)?
By "any" i don't mean low as 5$ or high as 600$ per illustration but let's say something between 100$ and 200$ per illustration/design, if it takes you somewhere between 5 and 10 hours.
I'll post 7 random artworks from dA (different artists, different skills, different style) and tell me if they can make that money.
I'm asking you that because i have NO idea how much is that worth.
1/7 how much would this be worth
2/7
how much would one get for this one?
3/7
how much would one get for this one?
Do you guys know any genuinely good porn artists (strong fundamentals, color theory, shape language etc.) so I can dissect and analyze their work?
I could use something to aspire to, the other side of the coin to the old masters.
A general rule would be - do I like their work even after I'm done fapping?

what are the legalities of making a fan made animated music video to someone else's song?
Probably not legal as far as music piracy laws because the source won't be changed. Don't fully know tho
>>2789539
Legal only if you have consent of the copyright holders. And thanks to youtube's automated copyright machines, it would probably get taken down.
If you do your own cover or something and you aren't making money off it you'll probably be alright.
Get the song owner to pay you idiot.
