I've been doing Stronglifts for about 6 month. I've got sick a few times this year so I had to take off several weeks from working out, which fucked up my progress bad (Squat = 170lbs, DL 240lbs, Bench press 160lbs). At this point I'm fucking sick and tired of this program, workouts are a chore and I'm grinding through it just to recover the stats I've lost from my last time off.

Is it doable to do some other program for a few months, just to get a breath of fresh air and do something different? I'm losing all my motivation.

Switch to SS, stronglifts has too much volume which doesnt work with the kind of intensity you get to eventually. Its a bad program.

Mahdi suggests knocking down your lifts by 20 percent for a 2 week break. That's ridiculous. Take a smaller reduction and take a couple of extra rest days instead.

Been drinking everyday for 7 years. My morning ritual is pouring myself a glass of absolute vodka so I can get a buzz and start my day. By noon I'm shit faced but a functioning shit face. Go to bed exhausted and drained. Wake up exhausted and drained. How do I go about taking up fitness and replacing the gym as my addiction?

step one is to make a goal that is attainable, realistic, and depends solely on your actions.

step two is to start cutting back slowly. cold turkey generally doesn't work. maybe do half a glass, then cut back to skipping one day a week. going cold turkey on alcohol literally can kill you (delirium tremens). (seeing a doc about this can help, some benzos will ease the transition)

step three is to continue following up on the goal for several weeks to months until it becomes habit. once then, you re-evaluate your goal, and proceed as such.

I read somewhere that I'm not supposed to go to failure, but maybe 1 rep shy. I did that, and at the end of the day I couldn't lift anymore, but on the way home it doesnt really feel like I worked out hard. My friend said I should feel it killing my arms right now if I worked out hard

What gives? am I suppose to go to failure? How do I know when my muscles is exhausted?

I bought a couple of bottles of Viking by Warrior Labz, because I don't know where to get real gear.

All beginner strength routines follow a very similar approach so just pick one and run with it. It doesn't make a difference which you do.
