I am going to backpack next year across the country. The journey will take five to six months. I'm going to take a flight to Charleston, South Carolina, then I'm going to walk from there to San Jose. Do you guys have any ideas for outdoor cooking? I need some recipes as I will likely need to hunt and make my food from scratch much of the time since I will not always be taking main roads.
Probably should ask /out/.
We're more about micky Dz and papa johns over here.

imho would bring dog on hike
I'd suggest getting a fold-away solar oven. The area you're hiking is plenty warm enough with mostly sunny days, and setting up a big foil/plastic contraption is a lot easier than gathering enough firewood to cook with and waiting for a nice bed of coals.
Do you guys have any culinary stupid friends?
>eating hamburger
>"disgusting, blech, barf, how can you put that garbage into your body anon it's nothing but fat and salt"
>"zomg i loooooove ramen noodles, i eat a pack every day for lunch"
>literally fat and salt soup
I don't have friends -_-
but had a vegetarian roomate once
>vegetarian is more healthy Anon
>procedes to chain smoke and binge drink

>>literally fat and salt soup
No, just salt. There's no appreciable fat in instant ramen. If there were you'd see a thick layer of it floating on top. But you don't see that.
>>culinary stupid
Exactly. You do know what fat looks like in soup, right anon?
OP translation:
>my mom said I have bad eating habits and that's why I'm fat, but she eats ramen for lunch!!!!
I recently started getting into Gin. Mostly because I never really managed to get into Whiskey, Scotch, Brandy, Vodka, or anything else you usually drink neat or on the rocks. However Gin has been pleasant.
Have tried the standard bottles, also picked up some fancier like Hendrick's. However my recent buy, pic related, was the best one so far. A lot more taste, plenty of citrus.
What gin do you guys enjoy and how served?
I do fancy a GT but some gin on the rocks with a slice of lemon is really nice on it's own.
>>8388408
Don't get too into gin friendo, I also like it a lot, G&T and moscow mules are a favorite.
But Gin is a natural depressant, makes for boring/depressing times.
>>8388414
Depression is already had, so I just drink what I enjoy.
I would like to get into whiskey thought, seems like an interesting drink. But can't stand it and I've tried a lot of them.
>>8388408
imho would splash gin in dog's face
Do you have a favorite ice cream bar/ice cream truck treat? It may be stupid but I've always enjoyed the character bars with the gumballs
>>8388149
imho i would not feed dog ice cream

Not sure but it looks like a saute pan.
>>8387741
It looks like a light weight cast iron sahte pan to me. But idk
Hey /ck/, I usually don't come here to do anything but shitpost about crab legs in movie theaters, but I need your help.
I'm buying a Vitamix for Christmas, I'll be using it quite a bit. Thinking about buying an open box one off eBay for $275 (shipping included) but I need to know whether it's a meme propagated by society and marketing or not.
Is Vitamix worth it? Are they as durable as I keep hearing? I'd be getting a Vitamix CIA model that's usually like $450 for $275
>>8387492
If you're planning to do a lot of juicing, particularly the rough veggies like Kale, cucumbers and Carrots, stuff like that, Vitamix and Blendtec are pretty much your only bets without buying a dedicated juicer. They have seriously powerful motors and last pretty much forever. I don't own one personally, but from the folks I know who do swear by them up and down. if you're able to snag one at a discount I'd say go for it, but only if you primarily plan to juice veggies and stuff like that, otherwise, it's seriously overpriced for what it is.
>>8387513
Thank you for the reply, I love my cucumbers so being able to make all sorts of drinks with that is my dream appliance.
>>8387527
Should serve you well then, just be advised they are fucking LOUD when you use them, so if you got roomies or something, just keep that in mind.
I have about a pound of cubed chuck, and a pound of ground beef in my freezer. I want to use it before I visit my parents for christmas for three weeks since when I get back it'll be a bit too old. What's something that can use both of these? Preferably something I can make in my slow cooker while I"m at work.
(I don't have a grinder, so I can't just grind up the chuck and add it to the ground beef)
Meat sauce I guess. Why not just cook them separately though?
>>8387325
I might if I have to, but frankly I'd rather avoid the hassle of cleaning up twice. I'm trying to finish up a bunch of stuff (as in work) before I go away
Chili. Serious eats' recipe calls for both cubes and ground beef I think, so it's not unheard of.

if you aren't able to eat this amount of eggs in one sitting, you have no right to call yourself a man
>>8387221
>basing your masculinity on stuffing your face with massive amounts of food
Yeah, nothing more manly than 300lbs of lard eating a thousand eggs every day.
Never eat anything that brown by someone that brown.
Tried a new technique. Rate my 'za
looks like an infected wound, not that there's anything wrong with that
>>8387194
Dough looks thick as fuck but I'm okay with it
Should have shredded or sliced the cheese a bit
And did you put that poor basil inside the oven?
>>8387194
crust looks perfect but I hate when people go for "authentic" and don't grate cheese evenly over the whole thing
but I mean it looks legit tho
So corn is a fruit, right?

Really makes you think.
na it's a grain.
My girlfriend is a smart ass and she said that there's some gene which dictates if cilantro smells nice to you or reeks to you.
She loves cilantro and I want to vomit when I smell it. That's especially weird when considered, that we have similar palettes and tend to eat almost everything what's not dribbling of grease.

>>8386578
Like any herb cilantro is fine in the right doses in the proper dish. Only thing I despise is a cilantro garnish, it's cheap and lazy.
>>8386578
The cilantro taste is genetic. It tastes like soap to me. Like putting a bar of soap on your tongue.
The rest of my family does not have this.
You can look this up.
>>8386649
op is literally retarded
he made up having a gf to ask a stupid question

Isn't this just orange chicken?
Has /ck/ ever attempted a meetup? /k/ does it all the time and I think having a regional potluck of some sort would be a neat idea. I live in South Florida and it would be interesting to see the cuisine all the cu/ck/s from the local area would bring due to the ethnic diversity.
Is this a good idea or would it just devolve into people bringing their favorite fast food and cum-laced brownies? Would anyone else be opposed to /ck/ a meetup?
>would it just devolve into people bringing their favorite fast food
You'd end up with literally an entire table draped with McChickens, and the party wouldn't be much more than a small group of teenagers and really weird-looking adults showing each other Jack videos on their iPhones.
>>8385971
I'm in South joisey but I would be down for a meet up if people were in Atlantic city .
