What can I get with $50 a week to eat. I have the basic eggs, milk, and bread but what else? Something that lasts a while week, is healthy, and I can cook and put in containers for later consumption

rice oats potatoes pasta

$50 a week is more than enough for one person to eat well on. You can have practically whatever you want excluding extravagance.

so I tried my hand at this protein beast. Obviously I need to get the sausage more evenly padded around the egg. Has anyone here done this before and have advice on how to know when the sausage is properly distributed?

also before the question is asked these are pickled eggs (specifically with mustard seed and tumeric) hence the yellow color of the eggs peeking thru the sausage.

also the recipe I used went with baking instead of frying. I the case of baking will the meat always pull off the egg like this?

>>
What the fuck is this? Seems like a stupid thing to do the egg doesn't even soak into the meat as it's cooking. I'd just make a ring of sausage and break the egg into it on the griddle
>>
>>8390083
It's a scotch egg, you bundle of twigs.
>>
>>8389994
It's all in how you squeeze the meat around the egg. Whilst you can roll the meat out pretty flat beforehand, but you really gotta ball it up around it, roll it, treat it like clay and get manual with it.

Why would you want to can a roast?

What if you had a disaster and couldn't get to a store or the store was sold out; what if you were snowed in and no power? It always pays to have at the very least, a weeks worth of food to eat and a way to cook it. Ideally, a years food storage would be best. Just buy two of everything and put one away for the future. Be sure and store plenty of water. You can survive without food, but not very long without water. What if you didn't have a job and couldn't afford to buy food; food storage to the rescue! It pays to plan ahead for anything that may happen in the future.

>I'm within walking distance in any weather of a dozen grocery stores.

it almost never pays.

and a years supply of tinfoil hats

the fuck are you talking about
>Be sure and store plenty of water.
I have this thing called plumbing, including a hot water heater with 50 gallons in it at all times.
>What if you didn't have a job and couldn't afford to buy food; food storage to the rescue!
or you could use money
>It pays to plan ahead for anything that may happen in the future.
not if the thing does not happen. then it was a waste

Hey guys, a few friends of mine are having a potluck in about 6 hours and I have no idea what to make myself. At first I was thinking of making chicken parm but decided it's too heavy, they're bringing prawns, a roast, some salad and apparently a chicken. What are your thoughts on what I should bring?

>>
Bring a dessert.
Like cake. Cake is easy. Carrot cake.
>>
Don't bring a fucking dessert, every faggot will bake some rock hard cookies or buy a dessert

Garlic herb mashed potatoes always come out delicious and is super easy and fast
>>
You could make a pasta salad! This is one that I like to make. It's easy and my boyfriend and I make it all the time.

He made the video for fun, and said how ridiculous of an idea it was. It's a pretty neat concept and he donated it to charity. So don't think it's going too far.

I just had my first (failed) attempt at cooking sushi rice for some musubi. I ended up under watering it and scorching the hell out of my rice. Everything still turned out edible, but what is the "proper" way to cook sushi rice?
20 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>8385070

Wash rice (Japanese rice) three times.

Add some rice vinegar. For like 1 cup of rice, all you need is like 2 TEA spoons.
>>
You don't use sushi rice for musubis (if by sushi rice you mean the rice vinegar/sugar blend).

Invest in a rice pot. Everyone in Hawaii has one & p much every Asian household.

Rinse medium grain rice in cool water and drain. Add in equal parts water to the rice and push the button.

Use the rice plain or season lightly with salt or furikake seasoning.
>>
I've done it the "authentic" way, and I've also just added rice vinegar to one minute white rice from a box, and it always comes out good.

Hell, I got lazy after making 4 rolls and just put the rice in a bowl with all the other ingredients mixed throughout. Cucumber, salmon, avacado, and imitation lobster.

That being said: as trashy as I am, I will never use soy sauce or sriracha on my sushi, and you shouldn't either.

I wonder If we can have a thread about cakes, even If we do not specifically post recipes I would really like to post some good pictures about cakes, bonus points if it's OC and you've baked them.

Hey /ck/ I got these packets of instant coffee, they're smaller stick pouches inside, the problem is they expired in 2012.

Despite that, with all this packaging, do you think it's safe to drink?
How can I truly tell if coffee is bad? A smell? Do I brew it and ope it doesn't turn green?

>>
>>8391752

I would assume they're still safe to drink. There's nothing in there that could actually spoil (rot, grow bacteria, etc.)

Worst case the flavor will be off.

>>How can I truly tell if coffee is bad?
Same as any other food. Ignore the date and look at the product. Do you see mold? Slimy bacterial growth? Disgusting smells? If you don't see any of that than it's fine.

Smell is pretty feint, doesn't smell like much at all dry.

Gonna add some hotte watter.

Didn't snickers used to have more peanuts? These new snickers are pretty much milky way bar with peanut shavings. The MBAs always do this shit, they are going to kill their brand loyalty.

White chocolate has a boring flavor.

Why did roast swan go out of style as a traditional Christmas dish? It was considered a popular delicacy for centuries, and then suddenly it vanished from most Christmas menus.

Turkey became more popular than fattier birds because it's less of a disgusting disaster when cooked by a dumb person, it just comes out dry and bland instead of greasy and vomit inducing

I am very much thinking of swan, though it's true that geese have also gone out of style as Christmas dinners.

In any case, a swan is basically a long-necked goose for culinary purposes.
