Evening CK!
I have a potluck lunch Wednesday, and thought I would do some crock pot dip. What are your favorite recipes and chips to go with them? I'm open to suggestions.
(Potluck is where each person brings a dish to a function.)

The other day I made a pot of rice, and after I had started cooking it, I noticed that the bag I got the rice from had little maggots inside. Not a lot, probably something like 10 maggots inside the whole bag (I moved it around). I ended up throwing it away, yet I still ate the rice I cooked.

My question is, is there a chance it could make me sick? I'm not a queasy person, and this should just be a little protein boost, right? Pretty sure they're larvae to little moths I've seen flying around.

Protip: It is very common but is very food safe too. You can always complain for free rice, but it happens to alot of packaged foods.

Cool, thanks

They are rice weevils, which are incredibly common, and why you should thoroughly wash rice before cooking it. They are not harmful to you, but they're still pretty gross.

I typically don't enjoy Knife General threads, but I'm in the market for a carbon steel knife.
Can't find these things in stores, it's all stainless steel shit so I'm going to need to order online.

Taking recommendations for a blade.

Do you like to fry using butter? Is it superior to other methods?

What dish?
>>
When I do country fried taters, I start off with olive oil (not extra virgin) and then put a few dabs of butter towards the end. When I leave it out, they're just not the same.

>that low low smoke point in my unventilated kitchen

rendered fat is the best in my opinion, but butter is a close second. i like to sautee in olive oil.

>overdrawn $22
>no car and apartment isn't within walking distance of anywhere that sells food
>only food in my apartment are a two month old bag of potatoes and a thing of frozen ground turkey
But I'm scared of the turkey
Before I froze it it was already in my fridge for a good 3-4 days and I froze it because I knew if I left it in the fridge it would go bad before I cooked it
But then that hurricane blew past and I didn't lose power but rather my power was cut off for two days because poorfag
When I got my power back on the freezer was still cold but all the ice cubes melted and I know you're not supposed to refreeze thawed meat but I did anyways and the turkey is still in my freezer
It's pretty grey looking but I'm really hungry and was wondering if I should bother trying to cook it is it edible or will it kill me or should I just suffer

well how's it smell?
>>
I'd throw that turkey out, just eat a baked potato or something
>>
if it doesn't smell bad when it thaws you should be good.

just make sure you cook it thoroughly

Are these worth the price? Thinking about buying one for making cookies and pizza dough occasionally.

if you are making your own dough more often than every couple of months, it's worth the money. you can use the time the machine takes to knead to do other prep work or whatever, making your cooking/ baking more efficient. the question is simply what kind of money you're ready to put down
>>
>>8392473
Definitely worth it if you do any sort of regular baking or sausage making. The sausage grinder attachment is sort of ok, but if you're mixing stuffing for sausage, the higher power motor really comes in handy for mixing thick/heavy mixtures.
>>
>>8392473

Will you use it? Then yes, definitely.

Check out local thrift stores, you can get one wayyy cheaper than new that will work perfectly.

I'm new to using cast iron.
I've cooked a steak in it and it was wonderful. Then I tried teriyaki-marinated chicken

It left a jet black residue on the pan that is greasy to the touch and doesn't come off with anything. The only way I've found to get it off is to burn it off on the range set to high.

How do I get this shit off without going thermonuclear?

And how the shit do I clean cast iron to begin with? I've been using the "kosher salt and a little water" method which works until it comes up against this beast

They sell plastic scrappers, but I've never tried them. I normally use a stiff brush with salt and water, never had an issue cleaning using that method before.
>>
Soap and water.
>>
>>8392468
You could do this, but then he'll have to re-season the pan.

Friend bought me a wagyu sirloin steak for christmas how should i prepare it?

>>
Toaster oven, ketchup and salt
>>
In a lukewarm pan, coated with a mixture of water, oil, salt, pepper, and garnished with a buttfoar.
>>
Bring a pot of milk up to boil and gentally place the steak therein

Meanwhile prepare some jellybeans by removing the protective plastic package

Once steak has boild in milk for about 6 minutes remove and place onto plate

IMPORTANT: let the steak rest for a couple minutes

Now top with jellybeans and a sauce made from the leftover milk and enjoy.

You can't just eat minimal calories, you gotta exercise as well. Also when you do start exercising your body will need much more nutrients that what you are currently giving it.
>>
>>8387489

How do you exercise when you come home from work exhausted? That part has always baffled me.
>>
>>8387496
you wait around an hour and then either go for a jog or hit the gym if you have a membership
