Can we all agree that objectively Veganism is a cult?
If I were to post here and ask advice how to feed my cat with vegan food, I'd be told to GTFO, cats need meat etc. Why are humans any different? We are omnivores. Our brains and cells require meat and animal based products to function normally. Meat is directly responsible for our increased brain size and capacity at the dawn of Human evolution. People need a healthy, balanced diet, that including veggies, fruits, cereals, eggs and yes, meat.
>>2175018
>veganism is a cult
>crafts argument for why nonveganism is a cult
>People using evolution as an argument against vegans
>By those standards we shoudnt have houses or cars, and we should run to get everywhere
Before you get all buthurt on me let me say that indeed meat might be important (not irrepleceable with the right diet) but I hate both types of people, the ones who think they are better because they like meat and the ones that think they are better because they don't.
>Why are humans any different?
Because we have the sentience and intelligence to make that choice for ourselves. Cats do not have a choice in that.
I really want a cat. i live in a little apartment though, 30m2 / 322sqft. I want to spend a lot of time with the cat, but also be able to sleep another place for 1 night. Is this feasible? i would love to be able to play fetch with it, but i am mostly looking for a very affectionate cat than wants to cuddle/lie near me.
Can you recommend any breeds? i thought a lot about getting a kitten from a shelter, but its hard to know what you get when its been through so much and if it will be suited to live indoors.
Sleeping elsewhere sometimes isn't going to be an issue, though a kitten will need to be confined to a safe room while you're away. The size of the apartment isn't a problem either, you can try using cat trees and furniture to maximise the vertical space, which cats enjoy more than floor space anyway.
>its hard to know what you get when its been through so much
If you want a purebred cat, then absolutely, go for it, but most shelter kittens aren't traumatised shells that have been rescued from some kind of grim torture-dungeon. They're just kittens from strays that have been brought in, or kittens surrendered by someone who didn't bother spaying their cat, and they tend to have quite a good start in life as shelters are usually fairly conscientious about socialising them and making sure they're dewormed and have their shots. Though if you want a cuddly, affectionate cat, you're probably better off looking for an adult as kittens tend not to settle down for a couple of years, and then their adult personality may turn out to be rather aloof or independent or very active.
>>2179058
Gotta agree with this; if you want a cuddle buddy, look for a cuddly adult and don't settle for a grown cat that isn't cuddly. Kittens are active and rather play with your toes than lay in bed with you
A rescue cat will more than likely love you for the soul purpose that you gave them a home, but the best cats fr cuddling are bombays and ragdolls. Ragdolls will let you do anything and are very fluffy, but if you also want an energetic cat, I would go with bombay. I have always had bombay cats and I love them. Male cats generally seem to be more loving than female cats, not sure why, but before you go breed hunting, check the shelters or any local cat colonies.
I have a month old German Shepherd(his mom passed away 29 days after birth), and im having trouble potty training him. I live in a large aparment with a balcony, and he shits all over the damn place. I've tried using newspapers, sand, and even used the attractant spray. He's too young to be taken outside.
What do I do?
>month old German Shepherd
Just delete the thread OP. The autists ate going to descend upon you so hard.
>>2179046
He's only 4 weeks, op. You can't expect to start training until at least 6 weeks. You can try, but don't expect anything. He's only been in the world for less than a month. In the mean time use doggy pads. The rule of thumb is puppies can hold their bladder for one hour for every month they are in age, and that stops around 7-8ish months or more. So right now, pretending your dog is house trained, you'd have to take the pup out every hour before he'd have an accident
Give him back to his shit breeder. Seriously, what moron just places pups that young, even with a dead mom. The breeder should have kept the pups until they were 12 weeks old.
Any idea what this thing is?

What Earth animals, past and present, would you splice together to create an organic 'army' of killing machines?
Obviously, multiple creatures will be necessary; different species would be specialized for different niches. The only limitation here is that you can't use human DNA; anything else is fair game.

I'd like to buy a Russian blue kitten. My ex's family had one, and he was awesome. Super chill, and a handsome guy.
I've never owned any cats before, just dogs, and I was wondering what age the kitten should be when I get him.
I just talked to this reputable breeder and it sounds like her pregnant cats are in labor as we speak, and that these new kittens will be available on the 6th.
My question is, don't new kittens need some time with their mother? What kind of things should I be on the look out with a kitten whos only a few days old at most?
Kittens need to stay with their mothers 8 weeks at minimum. If your reputable breeder would be willing to give you a week-old kitten, she is absolutely not reputable. Cats that young can't even defecate or urinate on their own unless they're stimulated by their mother's tongue (or human using a similarly-textured replacement, e.g. warm washcloth). Their eyes and ears are not open, and they're barely mobile.
If she's a member of any breeding associations, report her to them.

>cat breeder
are you serious anon
go to a shelter. You're going to get a sick, runty, kitten with behavioral problems who didn't receive half the shots they claim to have given them if you go to a breeder, especially a breeder that will give the kittens away that soon.
>>2178362
OP do more extensive research on what makes a breeder reputable. Selling you a week old kitten is the stupidest thing I've heard of. Also consider why you want a specific breed, because getting a super chill handsome cat isn't unique to Russian blues. However there might be undesirable traits unique to Russian blues (such as health concerns) that you should look out for. Do more research. If what you're looking for in a cat isn't unique to a breed than get a shelter mutt cat, a lot of times the shelter workers or foster homes can tell you a lot about the specific personality of the cats. You don't know what the personality of a kitten will be until it's older.
My stupid question: I just got a cat who is about a year old. Is there anything I should do to keep his teeth healthy? He's eating wet and dry food (slowly increasing amount of wet in his diet) and I've heard that feeding little or no dry food can make their teeth bad, but I've also heard it's a myth. What do?
I am a software engineer student living alone in an apartment. One of my greatest pleasures is running in the woods, and i was hoping to find a dog that enjoys running long distances too (marathons or more) and still be happy living in an apartment. So far i am researching border collies, rhodesian ridgebacks, GSP's and the toller.
I have always wanted a dog since i was little but my parents wouldn't hear it. I hope some of you can help out finding a suitable breed.
>>2178357
Honestly any dog can do well in an apartment as long as they are given proper stimulation. You want a dog that can run long distances, expect to run with it every single day. A dog that can run a marathon will not be a weekend warrior, it will be a working dog that needs to be worked daily. Honestly most breeders would probably shy away from saying their breed could do more than a marathon, more for the dog's sake. I would actually suggest an American Pit Bull Terrier (not a 'pit bull' because those are just mutts and their activity level varies from athletes to couch potatoes) because terriers are very active and motivated breeds, and APBTs as a breed are known for their tenacity and iron will; if you're running for a day straight they will not give up running right by your side until they keel over and die. They are also piss easy to train, and very people driven, making loose leash training viable.
That being said, it is extremely important to keep tabs on the dog while you're running and know the signs of when to take a break, Because an APBT really will keep going until it dies. You should carry a travelers water bowl, water and alcohol to avoid heat stroke.

as an ultrarunner i stumbled upon this article, you should give it a read https://www.ultrarunning.com/featured/the-mountain-ultra-trail-dogs-muts/ im not too sure how they would fare in an apartment though

american pitbull terriers are banned in many countries though, so be sure to check that.
So, two nights ago my cat came home with about 2-3 cm of bone from the tip of the tail out, like he degloved it. He is castrated but he likes to go outside anyway. Thing is, I live in a small town and there're no emergencies vet, so I waited until first hour in the morning and took him, they amputated those 3 cm of his tail and I took him home, not before asking him if there was any special cares I should have with it (never had a cat with a chirurgical operation), he told me "no, only have some patience, he can get to his normal life tomorrow".
Last night I saw him sleeping and took off to the gym, one hour after it I came home just to find EVERYTHING covered in blood: couch, clothes, matress, walls; the little guy removed the stiches and there was blood everywhere, I took off to the pharmacy several times trying to find something to stop the blood, nothing worked. Finally I googled and make him a e-collar with some cardboard and put it in the bathroom to sleep (this was 3 AM, spend 5 hours with the cat trying to stop the bleeding).
I'm waiting for the fucking veterinary to open up, but I'm scared for the little guy, he lost a lot of blood and I don't know what special cares do I have to take with him so he'll have a full recovery.
tl;dr: cat tail partially amputated, he removed stiches

Bump, please post update. Hope little buddy is okay.
My rabbit probably isn't going to make it through the night, I've taken him to the vet he has pneumonia and his digestion has backed up, they gave him anti biotics and laxatives
His breathing is super laboured and wheezy and isn't getting better, I don't think he's gonna make it, he doesn't want me petting him, how can I make him comfortable before he dies?
Please help

I have a baby potato from the grocery store, can I just plant the whole thing in a bucket with some dirt, will it grow? Or what is a better way?
I dont want to grow potatoes enough to go buy some seeds, if someone was going to recommend that, it was just an experiment/idea Id like to do like this, I'm already growing a papaya tree from a grocery store fruit. So can I do it with a potato as well? And how can I do it? The whole papaya thing was much more familiar to me
NO!!!
baby potatoes shouldn't be taken away from their mothers until at LEAST 14 WEEKS!!!
sounds like you went to a BYB

I call it baby potato because i got a sack, I was cooking but this one looked cute, so I felt pity and didnt use it, now I just have a potato in my room

Fun fact-
Pitcher plants support a group of commensal moths.the larvae live inside the pitcher plant and the adults will use it for shelter.theres even a picture plant mosquito that doesn't bite humans

Graduating college soon and looking to get a new best bro. I have a couple of months to get everything I need ready, so I wont be rushing into this. I had a dog for 20 years who passed away a couple of years ago and I think I'm ready for a new bro.
With that said, how does one go about finding one? Last couple of pets I've had have been rescue animals and now I want something more specific, but I'm not sure what exactly.
Standard size, big enough to go on hiking runs as I am very active, and big enough to guard a house when I move into my new place alone.
Craigslist is full of breeders that scare me and shelters dont really have any breeds that interest me in particular nor puppies for the most part. Any ideas?
Have you done any research on breeds? You've got very energetic dogs like border collies and huskies for hiking. If you're experienced enough GSDs are good for guarding and have energy, and there are also boxers. Use the adoption search sites to see if they have any breeds you choose after deciding on the breed. Google guard dogs or for hiking and read up on it yourself to see what you think will best fit.

I have done very little, I was waiting for some guidance since there are so many breeds. Reading about some of the ones I know about its a bit scary as people keep talking about breeds that have health problems despite them being the most popular dogs Ive seen.
I also don't want to pay a ton for a dog as I would rather have money to do things with my bro. I have no idea what a "good" price is, online I get incredibly variability from %500-$3,000 for golden retrievers and such.
I'm going to spend the rest of the day researching and going through those link, thank you anon
>>2177746
I got a registered purebred puppy from a local breeder who's dogs are known to go to many different organizations as service dogs for hospitals and disabled veterans. And my puppy was $300, and has been amazing.
Make sure you actually see the dogs and preferably the parents if possible, as they'll give you a good idea of what your dog will be.
I spent $300 for my dog, and there are people spending $1000-2000 for dogs because they assume the more it is the better it is automatically.
Don't assume that a cheap puppy is somehow lesser, every dog is different and the best dog in the world for you could be a super cheap mutt or a stray you adopted for free.
Would a wild crayfish be able to survive in a 1/2 gallon bowl?
Invasive rusty crayfish are taking over in my state. I figure it would be fun and also ethical to take one from a stream (I would never capture a native wild fish for a pet).
Could one survive in a 1/2 gallon? Would he grow too big, or stay small because of the tanks size? Would he just be miserable and die?
Pic related, muh bowls.
>>2177636
They need water flowing over their gills, so no.
You need another piece of equipment.
>>2177637
Would an aerator work?
>>2177638
Like an air stone? Not extremely well, unless you crank the pressure up or find a way to get the water moving in the bowl. They're pretty tough to keep alive honestly, but with the right gear you can make it happen.
They need oxygenated water flowing over them so I'm leaning towards no on just an air stone, yes with air stone/water agitator, if such a thing exists.
