What is the best toy to get for a teething puppy?
I've tried to give him some of my older dog's toys to play with, but he seems uninterested in them. I tried to buy him a new toy, but he doesn't seem interested in it either. It's a nylon bone with a nubbed center that's supposed to clean teeth as he chews.
Instead of going for the toys I give him, he just wants to chew on shoes, the corder of rugs, sheets, etc.
>>2288490
Whatever the fuck the puppy might like. Get a fucking a fucking flavored bone or something and a couple of other things and see what he goes for. What a dumb question.
I got a 10 week old puppy and so far his favorite thing to chew is a purina busy "chewnola". 3 layers and the little guy goes at them nonstop!
>>2288490
>ignores hard toys like nylabone
>chews on shoes, the corder of rugs, sheets
he wants something softer to chew on. get one of those tug-of-war ropes or stuffing-less, dip it in water, and freeze it.
also, bully sticks. they're a little expensive, but if that's your puppy in the OP pic, he's small enough that it'll be a while before he chomps through them. get the 2-3 foot long ones and they'll last him a long while.
Post animals ITT and I or another anon will identify them.
Please remember to include a reasonably general location. If you live live in the US, this means a state at the very least.

Has human compassion towards animals become exaggerated to the point of becoming a weakness? It seems like we're more compassionate towards animals today than at any point before in our species' history.
>>2288110
it's the exact opposite you retard. except for cute pets, humans dont give a shit and we're endangering our own species in the process of viciously raping the natural world
as for interspecies bonding: why would that be a weakness? why would compassion be a weakness in general?
do you understand the function of compassion in social mammals?
>>2288110
Humans? Compassionate? How many species if animals have we senselessly hunted to extinction or the brink of extinction?
We are the most invasive & destructive race around. Some people just happen to understand that animals keep the balance to an ecosystem, and are thus important.
We should take only what we need and try to not fucking kill literally everything in the near future.
Yes, I'm mad. People are so retarded.

Well in the Odyssey Odesseus's dog is apparently important enough to warrant an entire scene when he dies, so I don't think feelings for your doggo are that new of a thing.
Animal Abuse is a real problem in the world today. Why do people abuse animals? What's the psychology behind animal abusers? Are they mad at the world and want to take it out on animals? Are they doing it because they want to exert dominance/power? Are they evil?
Let's discuss.
Ever since I had to get a cat out of a crate that had been lit on fire after being doused in gasoline and dragged behind a truck by some teenagers I just stopped caring why people abuse animals and just know they're fucking evil for doing it
>>2287837
I have this thing with cats. I don't like them , I don't harm them and I stay away from them when possible ( fiancee got 2 of them ). I really want to get into cats , don't ask why , I just want to get over this "hate" and prove myself I can offer affection and attention to a cat. Never had a though about killing a cat or any animal , that's just , as you said , evil.
Yes , op, they want to exert dominance because they're degenerate and can't understand the meaning of a companion ,of some creature that unconditionally loves you and sees you as his best friend. There may be a lot of reasons why animal abuse is a huge problem nowadays.
>>2287831
I can see how most animal abusers can abuse dogs. Dogs will love you no matter what kind of person their owner is. They're loyal to a fault.
Let's talk about sharks that are very little know (no goblin/frilled/greenland please), i love sharks but everyone is talking about the same species everytime.
My favorite one is the bigeye sand tiger shark, a deep sea shark, which has never been seen in its natural environment. He can reach 14 feet (427cm).
Cool shark OP!
Sharks are cool. Can't make a career from them unfortunately.
cooki cutter sharks are the bomb diggit

Do you agree the pitbull breed should be banned?
>>2287359
Only things that need banning are shit owners and shit breeders
>>2287359
they should also be exterminated, along with the people that own them.
You do realize that's not a pitbull right
Animals don't take weekends off.
They don't have holidays.
And they don't take vacations.
Animals work every day of their lives to put food on the table, from the day they leave the nest until the day they die.

sometimes I think humans are too intelligent for their own good
like, what is even going to happen to humans in the far future
what if we don't even need spines
>>2286003
Bullshit, my cats take every damn day of their lives off.
>>2286003
Also they don't have tables to put food on so fuck you
Does this creep up on people without them realising? That dog must be nearly 250lb.

I work in a doggy daycare and we have a 3-year old bernese mountain dog who has got to be over 200 pounds. She can barely support her own weight. She lays on the floor breathing heavily and when she does get up she struggles. We try to make her do laps around the facility but she can't go for much longer than 30 seconds without collapsing. My boss brought it up to the owner in September and the reasoning was "well in the summer she doesn't like to go outside" which is ridiculous. A few weeks ago the owner said to me "she seems awfully low energy, do you think it's her weight?"
It makes me so sad because the dog's tail wags like crazy and she WANTS to run and play with everyone else but her body literally can't do those basic activities anymore
Let's get an old fashioned Rippan n' Tearan thread going. Post the brutality of nature.
Remember the rules, keep it nature only. Animal abuse is still not allowed on /an/.

What's the story behind that photograph?

Honest to god, I tried to figure out why the hyena did that and it seems like even the experts are not sure.
So basically the hyena got it's ass kicked by a pride of lions, that's how he got injured like that. As for eating himself, no one is completely sure. One theory is that the hyena began eating itself as a sign of submission. Personally I think he was just in a ton of fucking shock and didn't really understand he was eating himself.
Either way brutal as fuck

Please help with identifying this succulent. The one circled in orange with the flower stem.
Trying soil less (vermiculite/perlite/peat moss) germination since my last germination attempts with potting mix all failed. Covered seeds with vermiculite but it feels a bit weird since the granules are so large. Also labelled the plants this time.
Also picked up this meme plant today as I wanted one since I was a kid and it provides a bit more challenge than my herbs. Peat moss/perlite with some vermiculite mixed in the top soil.
just found a wild baby bird on the ground, do I put it back on the nest or care for it? if so, does anyone got a good guide on how to? I'm already reading up a bit
if it's a fledgling put it back
just leave it on the grass?
>>2290524
put if back you faggot baby snatcher
So we found this little guy soaking outside after a night of heavy rain.
Is it a hawk? Is it an eagle?
What do we do with it?
It's doing kinda better now.
I think it's a bird
Keep him outside, but so protect him and try to dry him off. Look up bird sanctuaries in your area and call some to see what they can do.
There's a chance he might just have gotten too wet and will fly off later though
Been pretty lonely for a few years and it's starting to get to me. I wanna get a pet but I'm not sure how to go about choosing one or finding resources for caring for it once I've got one. Just want something that will keep me company. I like reptiles and fish a lot but they don't seem like pets I could really connect to. I'm thinking about a cat. Any tips for a first time pet owner?
>>2290254
Get a dog. Dogs are true companions, and they're a great way to get out and meet people.
Can't tell you much without knowing about your lifestyle.
How often are you away from home?
Are you an active person?
Cats are rather easy to care for compared to dogs. Throw a ball or get a laser pointer and your done in terms of exercising. No housebreaking required and far less behavioral problems. You'd probably be better off getting an adult cat since you just want companionship.
Things like rats and rabbits are even easier to look after. Rats in particular are great. Only downsides I see for rats is they don't live very long.
Dogs are really only for outgoing people. Dogs need constant mental stimulation and socialization. If you aren't going to exercise it and have it meet new people/expose it to new situations, don't bother. You'll just end up with a neurotic animal that's either fearful, destructive or aggressive.
>>2290254
i want a pet too since I have no friends but my parents won't let me own one. And before you ask, yes I am over 21 and still live with them sadly.
Any ideas?
He's curious about everything and loves to watch water dripping from the filter by wedging himself between plants to keep him still when left alone.
