/herp/ reptile classifieds for finding breeders of various scaled and sundry creatures

>kingsnake.com
>faunaclassifieds.com
>reptilescanada.com (Canadian breeders)
>Also check to see if there are any annual reptile shows/expos in your area as these are good places to find good animals from good breeders at partial discount

/herp/ officially official all purpose care sheet of wonder and magic

>sand a shit
>use a thermostat
>read all the caresheets
>set up your tank before you get your herp
>regulate temps & humidity levels prior to herp arrival
>do not fuck with (handle) your herp for at least 7 days after bringing it home and ideally wait until herp has eaten at least one meal (for snakes), two meals for lizards, frogs, etc.
>PVC tanks are way better for most applications and worth the extra money
>it is best to avoid chain pet stores when looking to purchase live animals as mass breeder suppliers are not especially careful about health and sound genetics... it often saves you money long term to spend a little extra up front to get a healthy animal

This is my shiny ball python. Still working on getting him to gain weight back from his fast last year. He's been eating small rats every 2 weeks for 2-3 months now, but has only gained a handful of grams. I'll see how he does eating a small weekly, but in the meantime I'm just glad he hasn't really refused any food in just over a year now. Only time he has in the past year was when I was feeding him medium rats. All I had on hand were medium rats and I wanted to see if he'd eat rats before I ordered more. After 2 or 3 medium rats spaced 3 weeks apart he began refusing food. I gave him about a month off and offered a small and he took it immediately, mediums are just too big for him. Size-wise they're smaller than his girth but he starts refusing to eat if I try feeding him mediums.

I can't get enough of this shit, good old fashioned paint and ink. The more outdated/inaccurate the better.

Hi I'm new to this thread so not sure if this is where shoud i post...
So this morning i found pawn prints of canine, like 10 meters from my house, and i live near forest. My question woud be if this is a dog or a wolf? Because i know that wolf has 5 claws on each pawn and dogs usually 4, but this wolf/dog had 4 claws on some pawns, and 5 on other prints...

You should probably go to /out/ since you're more likely to get replies from hunters, trackers, or just outgoers who know.

hypothetically, if a breeding program only selected the smartest doggos for breeding, would we eventually get a genius breed of doggo?

Hi /an/, I have an semi-old dog (9 years old), she's been with me at the same house ever since she was 2 months old. I'm now moving away with her to another place. Thing is, ever since she was a puppy she was always accustomed to poop/pee in a small area in the backyard - she wouldn't even go during our walks. Now that we're moving, I've heard of dogs/cats that had a lot of trouble going back to pooping/peeing, specially after living in one place for so long.
How do I re-train her to go potty in one spot in the new place? What should I do if she gets constipated and won't go?

Tl;dr old doggy has never been in another house before, moving away soon and expecting potty troubles with her (constipation and re-training), what to do?

Nothing to do but retrain. Be prepared for accidents.
>>
>>2289018
Bag some shit and empty it out in her new spot.
>>
>>2289019
How to start, though? Leave her there after eating until she goes? If she doesn't go and gets constipated, what to do?
>>2289021
Thought about that, is this the way to go, tough? Heard of some products that smell like dog pee you can put and hope the dog smells it and goes there, never used it, though.

Wildlife enthusiast and zookeeper by career here.

I am trying to plan a 10 day trip abroad to Greece (from California) and was hoping /an/ would be able to give me some insight into the opportunities involving wildlife/nature while I am there. I know there are a lot of anthropological historical sights, and I'm planning on seeing those, but I am looking for a more dynamic experience.

Cats, cats, cats, cats.

I honestly think you'll be hard pressed to find even a native rodent around there. Greece is well known for it's feral cat epidemic.
>>
>>2288705
It's a heavily mountainous region and you're mainly gonna see goats, sheep, cows and animals that can thrive in Mountains. Honestly people don't go to Greece for the wild life, mainly the ruins and other stuff like that.

What time of year and what area are you visiting?
I can think of a few things you might want to see such as

Hello /an/, I have a question regarding how certain prey animals detect predators - that is - can some animals recognize predators by where their eyes are aligned on their face?

>>
>>2288512
im not sure but i know different eye reflections are different colors in the dark
>>
>>2288512
They most likely go by silhouettes. For a horse, anything that doesn't look like a horse = possible threat, and they act accordingly. If they waited til they could see the orientation of their eyes they'd be dead.
>>
>>2288512
I'm pretty sure they make judgement calls based on the movement of the other animals.

I have a male cat of 11 years and lately it seems like he gets very hyperactive when in the house. He'll fight the carpet, chase pens around, ect. He's always been an active cat, goes outside a lot, but never this active while inside before. Is this a sign of health issues?

>>
>>2288417
Shockingly, pets actually want to play with their owners instead of being dumped outside. Is this news to people with outside cats?
>>
>>2288504
As I said, he's never been this active while inside before, which led me to think it was age-related.
>>
Possibly hyperthyroidism. It's very common at that age.

Also, i'm sorry for your loss, but you could keep her and say that she escaped, if you want to take a risk for your pet, unless it's something to do with a medical thing.
>>
>>2288353
I took her to the vet this morning. she's having difficulty breathing, can't eat much, seems dizzy and can hardly walk. she was in pain too. diagnosis: cancer

the vet said that they can't help her and gave her some medicine

19 years we had her
>>
>>2288357
Oh, well, that is over the average age for a cat, looks like she lived a long and happy life, i'm sorry for your loss.

I need help friends,

I can't tell if the white bugdie is a girl or not. Anyone here know their shit about budgies? Thanks.

I don't think you can properly sex a birb without looking at their junk or doing a blood test (I can't remember if the blood test is only for when they're young or also as an adult).
Either way you'd be better off asking the vet and getting a professional hands-on answer.
>>
Budgies are literally the easiest specie of domestic bird to sex.
If that fleshy shit above their beak blue, it a male.
If it pink, it female.

That shit above the beak obviously blue and white. That mean it male.
