So what's the deal with crows?

Are they really supernatural? Evil? Mindreaders?

They seem to talk to me and give me subtle messages, is that possible or am I just seeing things?

Basically this:
>Walking with Dinosaurs
>using the "Owen" models

It'd probably be an hour/and-a-half-long doc covering the three time periods: Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic. Narration would be done by a Christopher Lee type person, and the music would be a mixture of orchestral and ancient instruments (ex didgeridoos, panflutes). Creatures would be a CGI/animatronic mix, and the noises would be animal noises mixed together (ex. Megalosaurus would have grizzly/croc mixture of roar and gurgle).

Hey /an/, I rescued this Kitten from behind a cafe late at night while taking an alternate route to my friends house (I was staying the night) It was cold and we were coming home from playing a couple games of Basketball at the local YMCA, rain was sprinkling and we heard her scratchy meow and decided to look for her, we found her (Obviously.) and to a surprise, her mom (or what I assume was her mom) was dead! I felt really bad and I didn't wanna leave her there, so we scooped her up and carried her to his house where we winged her. I decided on a name, Tokyo, and took her home the next day, she's been with me since, she's very playful, but a little rough and bites, any advice on getting her out of that? I know the basics, she has a litter box and is trained to use it, I give her fresh water everyday and she eats dry kitten food (not cat) when we found her she was very small and she's gotten bigger, I'm assuming her to be around 1 and a half months old. (I got her last month) Anybody know what breed she is?

I didn't really see a sticky anywhere so I just assumed I picked the right board. Anyway, does anyone here buy reptiles online? Is it better to find a small breeder type or use sites like undergroundreptiles.com? I'm looking for some specific types of snakes but that's only somewhat important.

While we're at it, anyone have personal experience buying reptiles in general online? post stories here. Other pets welcome too but I'm specifically interested in reptiles.

I've bought 3 reptiles online and have had great results each time. All from separate sources. The biggest thing I want to stress is do your research for suppliers. I was heavily considering buying from backwater reptiles because they were the first I found but they have extremely shady service.

I've bought
1 ball python from BHB reptiles
1 jungle carpet python from inland reptiles
1 razorback musk turtle from snakes at sunset

Shipping generally runs me $40 ontop of the cost of the animal but I'm in the US and since its currently 3:40am here on the east coast I'm going to assume you most likely arent so rates might vary.
For anything more than slightly uncommon I would look for specialty breeders though.

Heres my JCP since you posted one
>>
>>2284971
JCP's are what I'm most interested in at the moment. I have a male and female dumy that I want to try to breed at some point but I barely have 1.5 years of experience in caring for sneks. I also have 1 female ball, 1 male BRB, a juvy kingsnake and a male/female hognose. the BRB and hognoses I got from stores and everything else a friend gave me when he moved away. Also I'm from washington.

So, technically I inherited a lot of my herp knowledge but I've since gotten really into it and it's been an extremely enjoyable hobby. Also your JCP is adorable.

Here's my male dumy enjoying his new tank that I basically got on the spot when I found out I was "inheriting" him, lol.
>>
>>2284967
What you're looking for is breeders who specialize in only a few different species. The big reptile online shops that sell EVERYTHING, like Underground and BHB, are usually best avoided.

Check kingsnake.com classified section too. The site has a rigorous review section so you can vette the seller pretty well with that.

I got a christmas pup, and the same day I got a chistmas tortoise

my aunt really showed up my mom that year

same thing happened on my birthday kinda when edible arrangements came to my door with a box of a dozen chocolate covered strawberries my mom sent, and then a little while later they came back with a fruit basket so big I had to take the shelves out of my fridge to put it away which my aunt sent.
so much fruit, I sat there all afternoon trying my best but I couldn't finish it, ended up having to throw 80% of it away a few days later because it was going bad faster than I could eat it

Sorry, im not sure if this belongs here, or in /x/ but i figured id start with rational explanations.

Can anyone identify this strange "insect".

Probably 10+ years ago when i was a kid, i saw about 15 of them on the bark of the oak tree in my yard. i live in the southeast USA. They were approximately the size of a skittle, and looked like little teardrop-shaped balls of feathers with red eyes.

enlighten me on wing clipping. is it true it helps to calm nervous birds? any arguments against it?
7 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>2284501
There's nothing about wing clipping that calms birds down. They don't understand what it is. All they know is that the next time they try to fly (like if they get scared) they will fall to the ground instead which stresses them even more.

If you take proper safety measures to prevent your bird from getting out and obvious things like turning fans off, there is no reason to clip a birds wings. I have three birds; two don't even care to fly and are more climbers, but one of the tiels does love to do a few laps around the house to stretch his wings. I see no reason to take that away from him.

Also, if you have birds and dogs/cats in the same house, NEVER CLIP. It doesn't matter how much you trust your pets, all it takes is one scratch or bite and your bird is dead. At least with the ability to fly they have a chance at getting away.
>>
it can cause them to develop biting issues if you're not careful because in flight or fight situations they realize that they can't flight and learn to use fighting to get their way instead

The township I used to live in had a group called "Geese Police" because their population got so out of control. They ended up herding a bunch of them into actual gas chambers.

Why are they such pests?
>>
>>2284276
open season on them?

they're tasty if you know what you're doing
>>
>>2284279

They were within a public park, likely because they knew stepping outside of that meant death. They'd cause traffic jams from a group of them crossing the street 1 MPH.

My cat caught a gecko outside yesterday, and i managed to take it off of her before she could cause any serious damage (i think). it had a cut above its left eye, and a bit of skin had been ripped up on the back of its head (no blood) but overall it seemed ok.

it is still alive and breathing, and moves around a little bit, but hasnt made any attempt to run off. ive let it hide in a very small cardboard box on my desk, and even after leaving him there over night he hasnt moved. ive offered him a fly and a grasshopper nymph, but he hasnt taken any interest in them, and doesnt seem to be drinking either.

what should i do?

Take him to the vet if you really want to take him as your pet, if not, leave him alone...nature will decide..
>>
>>2283880
nah fuck you, tell me what they eat and how to make him eat/drink and also what kind of container to keep him in until hes well enough to go
>>
>>2283880
Btw provide him a heat mat, a hide, ..if he doesnt eat try to give him some reptile calcium and vitamins with your finger, try the same with water..and give him food that doesnt surpass the distance between the gecko's eyes, mealworms, baby crikets..But really, as I say you should go to the vet..reminder also that a new enviroment can stress the gecko..but since he's injured maybe its the main cause he doesnt eat...get the fucking cat away of him..

Are pets ethical?

Yeah, my dog seems like a pretty good person.

I think the most ethical thing you can do is pick up rescued/shelter pets. You're giving an animal a far better life than it would otherwise get and you aren't supporting breeders.

What's do you think about trophy hunting /an/? Have you ever done it yourself?
25 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Hunting just for the purpose of having a piece of the animal to display is scummy as fuck, especially if the animal is endangered or vulnerable.
Hunting for an actual purpose such as food or to keep the population down when they are overpopulated as fuck is a legit reason.
>>
>>2282899
I agree that the carcass of the animal ends up feeding starving Africans and a lot of the animals trophy hunters kill are raised for that purpose, like cattle in America. But I only disagree with the undeniable fact the people doing it are being allowed to purchase ego boosters that get if from taking a life. It's pretty weird when you look beyond "oh nooo pretty defenseless animal is getting killed" and focus on wait, why does that guy get a thrill from killing? Ask yourself if most trophy hunters if they had the option to buy the right to kill a human with a rifle- would they? For alot of small dicked trophy hunters it seems like yes.

Tldr it just all seems plain weird to me
>>
I don't understand why anyone would do it, but it's a necessary evil for now.
