Okay I'll entertain your question in terms of /trv/.

>Get Thai/Philippines retirement visa
>Budget $10K, take 1 or 2 months off, get a good bike and travel SEA
>Do something useful with the rest of the money investment, education, etc
>>
>>1233062
This sound good.
However retirement visa requires ongoing proof of income of 85'000 baht per month. So that's out.
>>
Pay off my student loans ($23,000) and personal debt ($7,000). Budget between $10,000 and $15,000 for the rest of my education, leaving me with about $110,000 left.

I'd probably get a Suzuki V-Strom 650 for $7,500, take a handful of short trips to South and Southeast Asia, and be down to $90,000

I don't know what I'd do otherwise. $150,000 isn't a lot of money, in the grand scheme of things. I'd probably try to find a way to invest or save at least half of it.

Probably Bangkok. I would say Vegas if I was into gambling more, but I just see it as a black hole to throw your cash into. Occasionally it throws some back, but usually it's just gone forever.

Apparently you shouldn't eat pork in SEA because reasons and I don't want to get all fucked up with worms in my brain.

I'm travelling from Canada to New Zealand with a short layover in Australia. Do I need an Australian transit visa in order to do this? The website is super unclear. (https://www.border.gov.au/Lega/Lega/Form/Immi-FAQs/do-i-need-a-visa-to-transit-through-australia)

Looking for someone who has done the same thing

Yes you do. Since you are from Canada you should be exempt from a long form visa (the non automatic one ) also what part of Australia I live on the gold coast
>>
>>1232740
But am I not part of the list of exempted countries?

>"The following categories of travellers are eligible to transit through Australia without applying for a visa:"
>>
>>1232745
I just reread it and Canada is definitely on the list of visa exempt countries. I'm not trying to be mean but do you know what exempt means?
You still need to submit your passport number on the traveler's site for Australia's e-visa equivalent

Hey guys,
I am traveling to NZ for 13 days and wanted to ask a couple of things:
- Is it possible to make from Auckland to Christchurch via Fraz Josef and Queenstown in 13 days?
- What tourist travel passes would you recommend? I found Intercity, Nakedbus and Kiwi Experience, Nakedbus offering the cheapest.
- What mobile pre-paid SIM card would you recommend? As for tourist, the largest amount of mobile data is the top importance. So far, Vodafone 3GB/200Min/200txt for $50 looking the most value.

I think the general rule of thumb is if you're going for 2 weeks and under you should probably just stick to 1 island.

I'd imagine this is ESPECIALLY the case if you're taking busses instead of renting a car.
>>
>>1232726

I would recomend to rent a car if possible.
You are more flexible.

I also would recomend to do just the south island. Nelson to Queenstown to christchurch and back is okay for 14 days. You could also go to hanmer springs/ Kaikoura if you have some time left.
Auckland to Christchurch by busses is may be feasible, but you would have done anything.
>>
>>1232825
This, I took Intercity around when I was in NZ and followed a similar route. You COULD do it, but you'll be spending a lot of time on the bus and miss a lot. Just getting to the South island from Auckland takes a few days by bus/ferry and that's skipping anything fun on the North Island.

I did a day trip to it from Malaga last year. It's not really special and it's more expensive than the Spanish side. The monkeys on the mountain are pretty cool and you can see Africa if it's clear enough. I wouldn't want to spend much more time there though. I can't imagine how it's like for people living there. It's really small and expensive.

Any Melbourne bros (or travellers) know the best places I can stay and have some ideas for fun stuff I can do while i'm there?

Are the backpackers places in the CBD area decent?

>east side thinking theyre top shit
more like sunshine, weribee or st. albans

the aquarium took away its jellyfish that glow in the dark exhibition so i havent gone back since
all northern suburbs before you hit the country are full of indians, turks, lebs and wogs
footscray is full of homos if youre in to that
dont go anywhere near the westgate bridge at night
boxhill is full of gooks if you got yellowfever
clubs are fairly far between each other
dont go west suburbs
east is shit too

to be honest i usually avoid the city cos its full of melbourne hipster faggots and a cunt to drive
in. prefer going north east to eltham, healsville or for a cruise through the great ocean road

where you coming from and when you goin
ill be down there for a month in May

Me and my brother and planning on going to Oahu, Hawaii over winter break. Anyone know of any hidden Jems or must sees that are unknown to the average person or travel guide. We are really into hiking but have no rock climbing experience so any trails where that is mandatory are out. At least in heights over 5 or so feet of free climbing with no ropes. Also any unique beaches. Thanks in advance annons

Sadly the trail in your picture is closed because it's super old and our state can't afford to fix small things like railings.
If you can get a ride to the top of tantalus loop there is a trail that leads to a network of trails up on the ridges above manoa valley, there are maps and descriptions via google. It's fun to get dropped off and hike around up top and then end up down in the bottom of the valley. Nice views if the clouds open up.
Diamond head is a neat hike through ww2 bunkers dug into the old crater walls. Go early as you can to miss the crowds.
Also note that the rock in Hawaii is not good for rock climbing, very crumbly. The one solid cliff in the state was requisitioned by the army for a training course when it was discovered.
Sorry, not a lot to go on.
>>
>>1232662
Diamond Head was a beautiful walk, although I agree it would have been better if I went earlier to beat the crowds.

Stairway to Heaven (Haiku stairs) can still be climbed although it's considered illegal. I did it in September last year.

There's one area where the stairs were almost dangling off a cliff and it was one of the scariest moments of my life climbing that part but it's manageable. Unfortunately for me the weather was awful when I went and I didn't have an amazing view like in your pic. Still possibly the best hike I've done in my life.

If you have q's let me know. Pic is mine.

Plenty of things up north. Pilgrim's Route or Pilegrimsleden in Norway, Kungsleden in Sweden, Pirkan Taival in Finland, Nordkalottruta or Arctic Trail going through all three.

While you're hiking up there, where can I go to easily find a gf such as in your pic, with a good and honest character?

I've done a few of the GR trails in Spain and Italy. They're all beautiful, but some rely too heavily on dirt roads, and some are so badly marked you can't enjoy the experience because you're always wondering whether you've lost the trail.

Weird, that map doesn't include GR trails.

Best hike I've ever done was the GR11 in the Pyrenees. Didn't do the whole thing; that takes months.
My dream is to do the GR20 in Corsica which is supposed to be the toughest footpath in europe.

hi /trv/,

going to SEA for 3 months next week. it will be my first time out of the country.

i'll be starting in bangkok with 0 plans; I'm hoping to make it to cambodia and vietnam with enough time to enjoy all 3 countries.

like most degenerate millennials, i enjoy tattoos. i'm wondering if /trv/ knows of any particular good shops or artists to look out for. I've been trawling google and instagram for a while but haven't found much that I liked.

i'll bump the thread with some of my tattoos to narrow down some styles

What are you looking for OP? Drugs? Nature? The typical tourist experience?
IMO the only reason to visit Marrakech is to socialize with backpackers or visit the High Atlas. If you don't care about mountains you could fly into Fes instead and save yourself a really boring bus ride.
Meknes and Rabat are awesome and worth visiting if you're in the area.

How can I move to Paris as a white British guy
8 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
As a white English guy I have observed the following while living here:

Most female Brits are here because of a relationship with a French guy.

Most male Brits are here because they were moved here by their job.

British people normally don't choose to live here. Except me. But I'm half French, trying to learn the language and i found a school i could work in (I'm a primary school teacher) that has the easiest fucking workload ever.

If i could choose again i would choose a comfier city in France like Nice, Bordeaux or Lyon.

Local chain Legal Sea Foods is quite good, despite being a chain. Bunch of branches around the city, a Japanese-inspired spinoff place in Cambridge. Quality fish, famous clam chowder that may be as good as it is hyped, or not.

This, actually. See if you can get a temporary shellfish permit. Maybe not in boston, but if you travel to the burbs an on-beach snack is easy to find. Also, going to legal seafood in boston is like eating at sbarra in new york, you can get that shit at the airport.

Sincerely, Capefag.

Originally I was gonna go to /adv/ but I feel you guys might know more about this. If I legitimately wanted to move and live here for a couple years, what would I need to do? There's a school I want to go to there. I've never lived on my own before. I have one piece of medication I'm reliant on. Any help would be appreciated or, if this isn't the right place for help, where would I go for advice?

Fuck /adv/, it moves too fast for meaningful conversation.

I can't tell you much about the process of moving because I have yet to move myself.

I live in near Anaheim, just north of Encinitas. I'm not sure where you're moving from but I'd like to warn you shit is expensive here, so be prepared to pay more for everything.

The weather is very nice if you like yearly sun and 70-80 degree whether.

I will warn you that this state is also full of liberals, if thats con for you.

If you have any more questions I'll try to answer the best I can.
>>
>>1232009
I'm mainly trying to ascertain if it's even financially feasible to live there and do schooling. Don't have anything saved up currently and pretty sure I could only get an entry level job. Coming from out of state. Only liberals that bother me are ones that lecture me or are SJWs.
>>
>>1232009
(Accidentally sent before I finished completely, I'll continue)

How expensive is it? From how I understand it's pretty bad right? Would it even be possible to hold a basic/entry level job and live there? Would take quite a few roomates living in a cramped area correct?

I'd ask you questions related to moving but since you haven't moved will have to hope for another helpful anon.

My friends and I are planning a trip to explore the countryside if Thailand. Mainly the entire north and west parts of the country.

We plan on staying at guesthouses and getting around from one location to the next with scooters.

To those who have been to Thailand and have rented scooters. Do most scooters have bad mileage?

I have researched and found out that a liter of fuel is about US $1. I'm trying to determine how much money I should put aside for fuel.

Thanks.

>To those who have been to Thailand and have rented scooters. Do most scooters have bad mileage?
I've lived in Thailand and owned a scooter, which I think is close enough. Newer, larger scooters (150cc+) have what I thought of as pretty good mileage, at least compared to a car--easily over 30km/L, maybe as much as 35. But that assumes smooth major highway driving and a bike that's not laden with luggage, among other factors.

Rental bikes aren't going to be new. So reduce a bit. And you're probably going to be driving at least some of the time on back roads and in urban settings, so reduce again there.

But in all seriousness, I think a bigger problem is inter-provincial scooter driving on what may often be mountain roads, without knowing what you're doing. Thai roads are really, really dangerous--thy have some of the world's highest traffic fatality rates. Every foreign resident I knew who drove a scooter in Thailand for any length of time had at least one pretty serious accident, myself included. Be extremely careful.

You may also find rental places that don't want you to take the bikes out of the immediate area, but I don't suppose you need to tell them where you're going.
>>
Most scooter rental is done from tourist resort towns, the notion being that you won't stray too far and just use it to check out the nearby points of interest. It's usually pretty cheap it THB100/day but bear in mind you don't make money renting a brand new USD$1500 out for $3/day, so often they will "notice" some damage you (didn't) cause and ask you to pay for it.

Bottom line, it will work out to be easier & safer (have you ridden before? Also, travel insurance will not cover you unless you hold a full motorcycle licence back home) to rent a car from an international brand. Given how wild & reckless the Thais can be on the roads (frequently drunk, speeding, both) your best chances are in a car, which has a/c and keeps you dry.

Another option is to buy a scooter - go on Craigslist or Backpage etc - for a few hundred USD for a used one, but of course you have to deal with selling it at the end.

Bottom line, you are unlikey to be able to rent a scooter to drive all over the country unless you leave your passport behind (don't do that), or hire a proper large motorcycle from a tour company, but don't do that *unless* you are an experienced rider and have your own PPE.
