I'm wanting suggestions on December vacation spots. Around the US and don't want to use a passport. My first choices are Miami Beach or US Virgin islands but I'm open to suggestions.

do yanks need a passport for Puerto Rico?
>>
>>1235532
You can cruise without a passport, but it is not recommended, because if for some reason you need to fly out or into another country it will be difficult, if not impossible. Still, you can visit the whole Caribbean, and Mexico without a passport via cruise ship.

I am cruising out of Miami for Christmas with the wife and kids. Ports will be Dominican Republic and Turk and Caicos, the latter being the Christmas day port. 5 day cruise 23-28th. I am contemplating just staying in Miami through New Years when we get back.

This is my cruise: https://www.carnival.com/itinerary/5-day-eastern-caribbean-cruise/miami/sensation/5-days/ech?Military=N&PastGuest=Y&Senior=N&StateCode=GA&numGuests=2&roomType=IS&sailDate=11112017

I'm on vacation in Tokyo, and want to find something Dark Souls-related, either attractions or things to buy. I know there used to be a Souls cafe back in 2014, but I haven't heard of anything else like that.

Any suggestions?

I suggest using google and browsing around Akihabara. Good luck!

Also, with anything you can buy, it's most likely available online for cheaper.

Is it cool to travel the world, be American and never learn any language other than english?

You can do it, just realize you're limiting a lot of your options a lot and some places might give you less quality service
>>
>>1235227
>Is it cool to travel the world, be American and never learn any language other than english?
I don't know what you mean by cool, as in something admirable? Or do you mean that you'd easily get by? If the latter, then yes, you can get by without a single word in another language other than English almost everywhere now. In places where you couldn't, you can hire someone, a sort of handler or guide, even a taxi driver as a guide, if it did matter.. Hand signals and body language work wonders. Without a second language, you do limit yourself some of the fun of conversing with others, and expressing some etiquette in meeting people halfway with thank yous and such, though. If it's just fear, then yes, confirmed. You can travel on English alone. I'd handpick some first choices though, get those out of the way.
>>
>>1235287
I mean cool like will I be totally treated like shit because of my unwillingness to try and communicate in any other language than my own.

Tampa is the meth trash heap of Florida.

With that said; it's not the worst place I've ever been.

The Nigger Depot guy is probably the city's best attraction.

Is Portugal truly a cheap destination for Americans to visit?

BTW Cheap means airfare and a couple weeks stay for $2,000 USD.

Doesn't seem possible to me but I will consider it, Spain or some place like Sweden or Denmark this Winter.

Any suggestions on where to go what to do there? I literally know nothing of Portugal other than it is the head of the Iberian penis.

It's a depressed economy with high unemployment. There could be some lower prices for things like rent, possibly, or offseason low occupancy room rates, but not much else, I'd say. Their prices should mirror most of Europe's coastal towns. The deals will be 2 and 3 stars only, I think. 1000/wk is a little over 100/day which is about the minimum without really roughing it or sharing with your mate.

As far as what to do? You're going to just google that. Two weeks is time enough to do everything in the whole country.

Is this the rudest backpacker ever? French tourist REFUSES to move her 'rancid, smelly feet' from disgusted passenger's head rest on a bus in Thailand

It's rude on its own but especially so in Thailand and other Buddhist countries where feet are considered dirty and should not be used to point or put near someone's head.

Is there somewhere, some kind of retreat maybe, where tourists can travel and live for, say, a month or so? I'm thinking about some sort of spritual, buddhist - esq relaxing camp or temple.

I have a lot conflicting thoughs in my head from mild/medium child abuse and stress from my job and friends. I don't mean like a place with psychiatrists and what not where you activly work on your problems, just a really relaxing place where you can sleep long, take walks/hikes and maybe sit in on some lessons on ch'i or whatever, just a calming soothing environment

i'm european based, so preferable somewhere in like thailand?

Bieszczady, Góry Izerskie (both are mountains), Wyżyna krakowsko-częstochowska (limestone good for climbing, some caves), Biebrzański park narodowy (swamp), Mazury(lakes). Seaside is very nice (except for the industrial zone of course)
As the cities go - Lublin

Have you ever had anything stolen from you on a flight?

Looking for a bit of advice here. I had 20,000 QAR stolen ($8000 Canadian) from my bag on a flight from Qatar to Hong Kong. I don't know how they knew money was in my bag but it was tucked away at the bottom and when I got off the flight it was gone. My bag was in the overhead compartment.

I wasn't thinking straight it was a 3:45AM flight and I wanted to keep my bag on me but I wanted to sleep as well so I just put it in the compartment thinking it would be safe.

I've contacted the airlines and they pretty much told me there's nothing they can do and I should contact the Hong Kong Police Department. I don't even know where to start.

Does anyone have any similar stories? Did you get your money back? What should I do in this situation?

file a police report and make a travel insurance claim?
>>

I didn't have travelers insurance. I was over there for two months and it was my first time flying so I had no idea what I was doing.

A police report is the best option?
>>
>>1232747
damn, just have to chalk it up to bad luck. the police report will only be a memento at this point. next time, check your shit when getting your bag from the compartment. i've heard of chinese gangs being arrested on arrival because of their in-flight sticky fingers.

Hi guys, I'm an aspiring documentary photographer and I'm wanting to self-fund a trip to a place in the middle of a conflict to photograph, but somewhere not completely life threatening such as areas that are occupied by ISIS. I'm leaning towards the West Bank, or areas in which the Ukrainian-Russian conflict is taking place, or where I can document refugees.

My goal is to make some photos that are portfolio worthy to help land me some gigs, not to get the photos published.

Can you guys suggest some places that I could potentially travel to?

I'm also open to documenting the daily life of people/places that aren't necessarily in the middle of a conflict but are having a tough time - such as isolated villages.

Thank you, I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys say!

Most easy is probably Ukraine conlfict.
If you want to document both sides you have to go to Ukraine first because you'll get problems getting into Ukraine if they know you were in Donbass
To Donbass you can get through Rostov, Russia.

Assad and Kurd held Syria are pretty safe to as long as you dont get to close to the front. The front is also most times not dangerous but there is always a possibility for a major offensive in this area. This would be very dangerous.
You can get there through Libanon. You can visit Damsascus, Homs, Latakia, Hama. From Hama you can get to Aleppo (this is a dangerous road because on one side there is ISIS and on the other Rebels but most times its calm. Recently there were some attacks and the road was closed but its open now.
From Aleppo you can get to Kurdish territory.

Also you could keep an eye on Belarus and Macedonia. There is a possibility of a Maidan tier coup. But most likely it will fade away.
If you stay ready to go there (visa etc) you could be one of the first foreinger there.
>>
>>1229936
Thanks for that information. I will read into it all.
>>
>>1229925
I wish you luck in your endevour, and have nothing to contribute, but it seems what seperates the really great people from the rest of the pack in your field is that some are willing to go into those level 1 danger areas and risk it all for their craft.

Generally if it's listed as a flight it's fine. You'll have to rush, but if you're staying in the international terminal it's fine. I had a half hour layover in Hong Kong and it was actually nice to arrive at the gate just as boarding was happening.
>>
>>1229362
I've been reading about it on another forum and people have been saying they need to leave the terminal and go back through security to get to Virgin Australia.

I am going to Ukraine in 2.5 weeks and we are planning on spending 3 nights in Lviv, however I have really been wanting to go to Tbilisi, I can get a ticket there for $150ish.

Obviously Lviv will have simpler logistics, however Tbilisi seems so neat. Which would /trv/ do?

Hello brothers. I want to go a few weeks to France this summer to practice my french. I've lurked the board for france-threads for quite a while and i have no interest in going to Paris. I wouldn't mind setting down in a charming smaller city or village. Do you guys have any good recommendations? I will be going alone and i would prefer to live cheap. It doesn't have to be a party destination at all; nature or rural charm can do. Will mostly be reading books and trying to talk with locals or cuties (pic related).

I once had the pleasure of spending a few weeks in a very ordinary and unremarkable small dormitory town called Le Rheu near Rennes for improving my French. It was, as far as I could tell, pretty much tourist-free, but near enough to some famous spots for a look around. It was an attractive place, full of regular families and people just getting on with life, exactly where I recommend for your needs.
