what does /vr/ think of wizardry for the nes?
Get the Famicom version if you absolutely have to play on a NES, otherwise there's better options like the PS1 or SFC.
>>3368880
whats the difference?
>>3368574
Brutally unforgiving, but the music is catchy.
Which Retro Fire Emblem game is the best to play? I only ever beaten sacred stones, and I heard it's the worst one. (I loved it tho)
>>3368520
Thracia 776 is the best Fire Emblem game, however it is not recommended to play it until you've played several other FE games. The GBA games are not retro but are good places to start. You're better off asking /v/.
>>3368520
>worst
Easiest, sure, but calling it the worst is just silly.
>>3368860
Easy doesn't mean it's good either
What are some retro games that famous non-game dev people were involved with (Whether they be famous artists, authors, musicians, etc)? I sorta want to see some early examples of notable people branching into vidya.
Pic related, the late H.R. Giger was the artist for this game (darkseed)
Just to get it out of the way: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker
Also let's not forget Harlan Ellison's I have No mouth and I must scream game

>Harlan makes Pinky and the Brain reference
>>3368498
Practically every jRPG has a celebrity guest whether they be artist, musician, or writer and sometimes all three.
>game tells you to press the "action" button
>you have absolutely no idea which button the game is referring to
> You enter a large chamber. There is a gilded throne that looks to have been built for a large man, and there is a spotless red rug leading up to it. A painting hangs above the throne.
Look rug
> I'm sorry, there doesn't seem to be a "rug" here.

>get ye flask
>>3368432
...and you're just standing there wondering why on earth you can't get ye flask.
>Forsooth!
I've been starting to get more interested in the Sega Saturn, and I'm thinking about getting a Japanese one, since PAL-versions of most games are really poorly ported, making a European model unattractive. However, I've been informed that the Sega Saturn has an external power supply, complicating the matter. While I can apparently use a power supply from a European Saturn, it might be a bit difficult to get one without having to cannibalize a Saturn myself, I also might move around a bit in the coming years. Is there any sort of switching PSU that can be put into the Saturn, so it can work on any voltage?
>>3367979
This sounds needlessly complex and expensive. Just get socket adapters like everyone else.
>>3367994
You mean a step-down converter? The original power-supply isn't switching, so it will completely burn up if connected to an electrical outlet with double the voltage it's meant to run on.
>>3368047
>it will completely burn up if connected to an electrical outlet with double the voltage it's meant to run on.
Actually it will just pop the varistor and the fuse, which can be replaced easily (source: I plugged in 110v units to 220v before).
The point of the stepdown adapter is that it converts the 220v to 110v, so Japanese and American consumer hardware runs fine.
Are there any sprite-based RPGS that take place in diverse comfy city/urban enviroments?
Define comfy.
And theres the original shadowrun for snes.
The original Rent a Hero. Feels like a weird mix of Shenmue before Shenmue and Kamen Rider.
Obligatory.
Does anyone know where I can find one of these?
>>3367783
What on earth is that a picture of on the label?
>>3367789
it would appear to be a CGI rendition of a television set.
>>3367849
That looks nothing like any TV I've ever seen.
Has anybody ever had this issue with running backups on the dreamcast?
For whatever reason every copy of Sonic Adventure that I burn has the same issue where the audio refuses to loop after the bgm has finished playing and I'm forced to finish the level in silence.
I've made multiple copies using different downloads from different sites using the burning guide on theisozone and it keeps happening.
I've hunted high and low and I have yet to come across a single topic about it online.
Sounds like you should try using some different CD-Rs, never had this happen to me. Are you using Discjuggler to burn the image?
>>3367692
I've tried two brands of CD-Rs but they were both cheap.
And no, I'm using the imgburn pack from here http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/pc/other/update-v13-imgburn-2570-w-dreamcast-drivers/
>>3367707
In theory that should work but try using Padus Discjuggler once anyway, it's what everyone used years ago and always worked for me. Also be weary of what groups you get your files from, some are just sloppily made and have problems like this. The ReviveDC rips are the best ones out right now as far as I know.
Tell me some games that ported horribly to PAL.
Anything not from Europe
Pretty much all early Megadrive games.
Almost all PAL ports suffered from black borders at top and bottom of the screen and running slower than intended (although there are some games like Super Mario Bros and Blue Shadow that were altered to counter the latter) which alone makes them worse than their NTSC counterparts.
Since you started the thread with the most infamous example of bad PAL port I'm going to bitch about Final Fantasy IX:
the game is already very slow-paced to begin with it running about 80% of it's intended speed makes it a fucking snorefest especially in it's battles. Also if you want to get Excalibur II in the PAL version good fucking luck, the game runs 50hz but the timer runs at 60hz meaning you basically have speedrun through the game in less than 10 hours instead of 12 hours you'd have in the NTSC version.
Vectrex Thread: Is Anything More Retro Than This?
Yes. Atari came out 5 years earlier.
Um... Yes there are more retro consoles but it IS a 2nd gen retro console with a novel display that held its aesthetic. If you love it and want more-better-older check out the PLATO vector mainframe platform still operating multiplayer gaming on the Cyber1 network
>>3367353
Bbbbb bb b b but those smooth vector graphics and tinny soundz?
Is there anywhere left to buy Saturn modchips? Specifically for a Model 1? I thought there was this one site that sold universal modchips that I looked up a month ago but now I can't find them for some reason.
And no I'm not using PsuedoSaturn. It's incompatible with a ton of games.
>>3367342
You have to email some guy who is based in the UK to get one, if I remember right
>>3367362
I know about that one, but this was another site I was looking for. I was on it less than a month ago, and now it's just gone.
Total bullshit how modchips for the Saturn are so hard to get when it's library has by far the biggest ratio of bullshittingly expensive games.
>>3367390
Just get an AR cart and flash pseudo saturn on it and burn some CDs
Time to talk about my favourite light gun series I just set up my crt tv and dug out my gcon 45.
https://youtu.be/H8PbDJGDgAc
God I miss the over the top voice acting in these games.
>>3367308
holy shit never thought i'd see a thread for these games.
recently set up my own crt to play these games, but i've run into an issue i've had since back in the day. i've got a guncon 1 and two madcatz blasters, pic related. i can play timecrisis 1 fine with all 3 guns, but for some reason when i try to play timecrisis 2 and 3 with any of them, the bottom and top left of the screens can't be hit for some unknown reason. now i'm pretty sure i never used to have this issue because i beat the shit out of all of these games as a kid, and i've used two different tv's that have the exact same problem. both of them are the classic tube tv's, no WEGA or flat screens or anything like that.
the only thing i can think i've done differently is load them from HD loader on my ps2, where as i used to use fliptop magic to load them from a disc. i have no idea how that could possibly make a difference. wondering if anyone has ever had similar issues with the ps2 games.
>>3367748
I've played 3 with USB Extreme and had no issues with my G-Con 45.
I found out I have these yesterday. I just want to play but my only other vmu is gone. Is it worth leaving this packaged for possible future collectors or do I just open it up so I canplay games.
You can easily cut the tape so you can slide it back into the package when you are done using it.
It's still possible to buy NOS Dreamcast accessories in 2016. I wouldn't worry.
>>3367182
Just buy the rest of the Dreamcast, you're half way there
I found a few Chinese versions of GBA games in their original packaging. But hell if I know how much they're worth.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
We don't talk about the GBA here, please ask in other board or websites. Thank you and have a nice day.
Is that supposed to be Rosa standing in front of Cecil and Kain?
I know she's in your final party and everything but she plays such a small role in the story... why the hell is she on the cover
>>3367084
That almost looks like Nikki from Chrono Cross.
Don't mind me, just playing my original PSX.
make this the PSX general. Link all PSX posts to this thread so they can contain their autism to one thread.
>>3366939
Don't mind me, just playing my original Sega Saturn.
Oh...
Didn't see you there.
Don't mind me. I'm just testing my classic controllers.
