What are games similar to similar to SNES Starfox? Like flat-polygonal rail shooters? Or just rail shooters? inb4: Space Harrier, Afterburner, Galaxy Force
I know Starfox is nothing special but it was the first game I got introduced to.
>>
There's not a whole lot in this genre, sadly.

Also "rail-shooter" could also refer to light gun games like Virtua Cop, which I consider vastly different.

I think the best ones are Sin and Punishment and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, other than SF64.

However, SF64 is the only one to feature all-range mode, which isn't really on-rails. But then, S&P and PD also feature some kind of cabal-style parts.

Also, Pokemon Snap

Flat-polygonal? That's some really specific request. Starblade Arcade version, Star Wars Arcade 32X version, X for the Game Boy, Starglider 2 for Amiga.
>>
>>3364212
>That's some really specific request.
Not only them, they are just the games I want to hear the first.
>>
>>3364186
Vortex has somewhat similar graphics and gameplay. Whether you will like to play it could be another matter however.

it really is pretty good

It's only the way 3D graphics were done for about a decade or so

Star X for GBA
>>
>>3364437
Good game, but the controls take some getting used to.
It's a straight up starfox clone.

The first boss is kinda bs though
>>
Solar Eclipse

Very intense, but not that good in the music department.
>>
Raystorm - probably is gourand shaded though
>>
>>3364458

Is it related to Total Eclipse? I had that on the 3DO. I don't remember it being too good gameplay-wise, but for 1995, the graphics impressed me.
>>
>>3364459
Phong here, gouraud is a poopy head
>>
>>3364212

Technically that's wireframe, not flat shaded polygon
>>
>>3364553
Technically you can't see through objects in that game

There are only a couple of rail shooters anyway and you want to those with flat polygons?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tL2ui18cpcY
>>
>>3367012
Not necessarily flat.
Is that the only rail-shooter PSX game?
>>
If you're into cheesy schlock and good gameplay you'll have a blast.

>>
>>3367082
Looks like a shameless Panzer Dragoon clone, and a good one.
>>
>>3367015
You really think a console this succesful has only one rail shooter to offer? Ignoring Arcade and PC, PSX has the most rail shooters on one platform, followed by the NES/FM/FDS.

That's what makes it special.
>>
>>3367358
How is it special if there is nothing special about it?
>>
>>3369836
there are a couple billion games out there. Of all the games available, and all the games you played, how many of them can be the first game you ever played? I'd say one in a couple billion is quite special
>>
We need more rail-shooters in life.
>>
>>3369858
By that retard logic, every game you play is special. The second game you've ever played is one in a million! The third game you've ever played is one in a million! Also, how many fucking video games do you think there are?

I guess light gun games are also slightly different but are also "on-rails"
>>3372610
>>
>>3364186
>>3364437
Wish they had used the sprite scaling abilities of the SFX/GBA to make a shooter and not the poor polygons.

Got the mention the only other rail shooter on the SNES/SFC: YamYam.
https://youtu.be/DUx-51VMmWo?t=49s

It's a very Japanese take on the genre, meaning there is a story, villagers to talk to and RPG elements! So you need to understand Japanese or a guide to get through this on. Yeah!
>>
>>3364460
I believe it's made by the same people, Crystal Dynamics. One thing I noticed in Solar Eclipse is that Ivanova from Babylon 5 is in it.
>>
>>3372614
Compadre... it's not a light gun shooter, it's a cabal shooter. And Omega Boost isn't even on rails.
