What is the greatest ShooTing Game (STG) or shmup you have ever played in your life, /vr/?
I like Zanac x Zanac.
Definitely DoDonpachi, although I have a soft spot for the Shikigami no Shiro series, Sengoku Blade and basically any Psykio game
My heart says Gradius 5, but granted, I don't play that many shmups.
miang did nothing wrong
Rico and Chuchu should never have been in the game at all.
Citan should have been a mentor who doesn't actually fight with the core party.
The entire Kislev chapter is a huge waste and should have been spent on giving Billy and Maria better development.
The Thames is cool but it also probably should have been cut for more important things given the budget and time constraints.
Most of Billy's chapter needed revision, because for all the shit that happens we don't really learn a whole lot about him as a character.
And finally, the Elements a shit.

I loved discovering her whole story. Beautiful character and genuinely touching love story.
>>3475304
I don't really recall billy or maria doing anything either. even bart was pretty useless after the first part in aveh, but I guess fei needed a best buddy character.
they should have expanded on emerelda's story. she was their fucking child. which is pretty cool to have in an rpg.
it's also my opinion that like, half of what happens in disc 2 isn't even that important
>>3475308
miang was a soulless vessel that tried to genocide humanity... teh characters were a little flat outside of elly and krelian, but the world building was pretty fucking cool.

Can we have another thread for arcade flyers and magazine ads? The cheesier the better.
Bump for interest.
The latest DF Retro episode really got me in the mood to play some MechWarrior 2. It's been ages.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87tvXIIMJes
So far it's still great. I got it running in DOSBox and MechWM as well witouth much trouble. I personally prefer the untextured shader-based look of the original DOS game over the later, textured releases. Those vibrant colors really give it an atmosphere that is absent in most other versions.
Unfortunately I don't own an original copy anymore and that's really the problem here. Becasue there are so many editions of this game. HOLY SHIT!
There are versions for every graphics accelerator of the time, Win95 & DOS, Win95 only, soundtrack or not, expansion pack bundles, multi- and singleplayer, campaign only, the list goes on... it's crazy!
Not one (pirated) copy I could get my hands on today had the soundtrack. And on Amazon it's not entirely clear either which versions are being offered by the individual sellers either. They're seemingly unaware of such issues. I got some nice MT-32 MIDI music going on in the clan halls and menus, but nothing during missions sadly. One version even had the MP3s packed in but no in-game music.
Doesn't matter, let's have a MechWarrior 2 thread and talk about this abandoned series - how great it once was and how fun NetMech was and how, like always, Microsoft fucked it all up for everyone with their stupid MechAssault games.
To close it out, here's an overview of the different releases and what they offer:

I have the ATI RAGE edition. I haven't played it since the 90s. As I remember, it had a great ambient techno soundtrack.
>>3496304
Oh yeah, the soundtrack is really good:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM3MwpkVYKQ&index=1&list=PL3E409CD81FFF6F55
It adds a lot to the experience. I spent too much time today trying to find a version that has it. I'll probably end up rebuying a copy via Amazon.
And to be clear, I don' think that link in the OP even mentions all the versions out there.
As for your verison:
>ATI 3D RAGE Edition
>PROS
>It looks great.
>Damage is the same as the origional.
>CONS
>Not emulatable, therefore you must have the origional hardware or an ATI card with the capability to run ATI Rage software.
>Not playable online without kali.
Pic related is seemingly the one to get.

PowerVR version probably looks best.
I'm flying to Japan on the 23rd for two weeks.
What retro gaming/modern stuff would you buy?
My list so far:
- PC-9801
- SNES Satellaview and whatever games I find.
- Wonderswan Crystal
I have about £800 to spend on games including shipping the heavy stuff back to the UK.
I'd kind of like to own a 64DD.
Just browse around. See what you can find
Also play some arcade games. Japan has the best arcades.
>Want to start a game collection
>Renting an apartment and terrified of moving all my shit
Anyone else?
Just buy some sturdy crates when you gotta move. I move like once a year and not had any games damged. Though some of my toy figures got broken, but they where gifts anyway and never cared for them well as they aint my thing.
Yeah those depleted uranium colecovision carts are a fucking nuisance...
In my expetience all you really have to worry about are the oversized plastic Sega CD/Saturn/early PSX boxes.
Arc the Lad was so good. Too bad it's dead now.Lieza best waifu
>>3495335
>Too bad it's dead now.
What happened?
>>3495340
RPGs died.
>>3495340
oh, it's definitely a dead series. the ps1 games were pretty good, but the last game was so bad that it probably killed the entire series.
How long does it take to complete Planescape Torment? It took me about 42 hours each to complete Fallout 1&2.
If it took you 42 hours to complete Fallout 1 (takes me about 8), I can't really hope to give you a reasonable estimate.
It is a longer game than Fallout 1 but not as long as Fallout 2.
>>3494891
How the hell did it only take you 8? well that also involves me having to start the game over after 15 or so hours in, so maybe 35. but 8? what did you just rush the game like some tsa-runner?
>>3494887
A long time.
I dont think it is Baldur's gate 2 long but long.
It is different than other games. It is VERY text heavy, with lots of convo branches. If you ignored them/skipped them you could probably shave off hours, but I personally like them. I If I had to give a guess id say 35 hours.
Thoughts on Castlevania Remakes
>>3494690
Inferior to NES.
>>3494690
this one's pretty good. the sound design is awful though
>>3494820
It's a remake (or rather "arranged version") of a Sharp X68000 game, not NES.
Finally an accurate shader.

>>3494187
looks shit desu
>>3494215
Motherfucker you clearly don't understand the point of emulators
Am I playing this wrong or is just boring as paint drying?
>>3494162
It probably could use mods.
>>3494162
you aren't doing anything wrong, quake II really is THAT boring
It's more like a tech demo. The single player feels like an afterthought and the only redeeming thing about the game is the soundtrack and multiplayer at the time. Other than that, yes, it's boring.
Provide me with one reason why Banjo-Kazooie wasn't a good game. I'll wait.
Because not everyone likes everything you like.
>>3493848
It's a Rare platformer, so by that indication alone ybya it's gonna prioritize style over substance.
>>3493848
Never played it, but it sure looks ugly.
