Post canon or implied /vr/ couples
Tbqh, BTN had terrible rival couples. They were so mismatched even with the changes to the characters. Karen/Kai and Gray/Popuri are much better than Rick/Karen and Popuri/Kai.
Do you believe Half-Life was a bad influence on FPS? Yes it did have solid gameplay and good story-telling through the interactions in the game itself without much interventioneven though there were bullet-sponge enemies. At the same time, it did pave the way for more story-telling in FPS and TPS that were seen as mandatory instead of log-clips or the game actually stopping you from what you were doing..
>>3498331
Quake's enemies like the Death Knights and Ogres were way more bullet-spongey than anything in Half-Life. On Half-Life's normal difficulty no enemy's health is high enough to warrant being called a bullet sponge as a valid complaint.
>>3498331
No, it was bound to happen regardless. There were story driven games way before Half-Life.
I put the old "you good, they bad, kill" formula down to either storage limitations (floppies vs CDs), budget constraints or a studio just focusing on the tech side of the game. Even Doom and Quake had stories though. I quite enjoy HL for being something refreshing and different from the standard at the time. (also don't get the HL2 is bad meme, same deal there /notretro)
>>3498331
No it was pretty good and had a fantastic modding scene. The doombabies on /vr/ will shit on it though despite it being before their time.
Man, I always loved this game and playing a Tournament right now.
What were/are your favorite early Windows or DOS fighters? This and Battle Beasts will always be my go-to.
Any excuse to post this is good enough for me

What a strange game
Why did so many 90s games have utterly terrible voice acting? I don't know if it was only the English versions or if other countries suffered similar fates, but many games were horrendous in the voice acting department (even higher budget games). Why? I know voice acting in games was a new thing and many gamers didn't even care for the plots in these games but why do manh sound like they got random people off the streets?
>>3497162
It's an artform like writing that rarely comes off well because everyone--
1. Thinks they can do it.
2. Wants to do it to satisfy their vanity.
3. Has no taste anyway.
4. Many of the "professionals" doing it are bad as well.
5. Doesn't want to pay for it.
>>3497162
>Why did so many 90s games have utterly terrible voice acting?
Because the got the programmers, accountants, and janitors to do the voice acting.
>>3497162
they had Swedish people speaking in english. that's why it was bad and they had those weird ass accents.
Every Link is a reincarnation, right?
With a few exceptions. Zelda 1 and 2 Links are the same guy, as are the OoT and MM Link. Link's Awakening Link is the same as either 1&2 OR LittP... I'm not quite sure.
>>3497101
Also Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass are the same. Not /vr/ though.
>>3497091
It's a new incarnation pretty much every two games.
This was surprisingly fun. Why is the Land saga so overlooked by DKC fans? I've only beat 3 so far, but I loved how it cuts most of the bullshit from the original and brings back the plain, simple platforming from Country 1 instead.
>>3496923
You ever say nice things about the GB ports again I'll fucking slap you silly bitch
I had all the DKL games, 2 was my favorite. It combined some of the worlds but it was a lot of fun. Even the music was well done. The first one isn't that good but the second and third are pretty good.
The Land series is pretty good but the lack of colors can be a pain in the ass sometimes.
I remember of one level in DKL I (I think it was a Canyon or something) where Diddy and DK almost vanish when they are near of some pieces of background since both sprites have the same tone of black.
is our hobby becoming too expensive? Would you have to be a trust fund baby to "retro gaming"?
Maybe. With certain consoles, like the Saturn, it's wiser to invest in one game per year or just emulate the games you want.
If you're just getting into collecting, then yes, you do.
Nerds have a lot of disposable income and don't mind blowing it on a few CDs and a case.
Not if you learn Japanese.
A friend of mine has come across an alpha copy of this game. It is finished but it has playable parts. How do I leak it? He doesnt want to share it, wants to keep it to sell it to max out value, but I plan to steal it and leak it.
Mail it to nintendo
>>3495941
>How do I leak it?
Literally asking: "How do I upload stuff on to the internet"
>>3496009
It is on a development cartridge.
My PC doesnt have the proper hardware to read the format it is on.
Even if it does I want to copy the contents and leak it so the whole internet can enjoy the game.
>be me
>get missles
>try throwing one at a red door
hmmm it doesn't open
>run around like a jackass for 20-30 min
>finally get pissed and shoot all 5 at a door
>mfw it opens
>game does not communicate this to the player in any way and it actually works differently from other metroid games.
Truly, this is the best game of all time.

That's wrong, and you're retarded. It was always five missiles to open a red door until they changed it in Prime/Fusion. Next time read the fucking manual.
Post REALLY FUCKING NICE sprite/pixel art
Fighting her way back to Nintendo's headquarters Edition

I could totally get into the Dreadnought mod. Could get into mapping for it, too, if damned to learn that archaic editor. Yet I do great with GtkRadiant/NetRadiant.

Previous thread >>3471438
This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.
Discussion of video processing and scaling devices is okay, but try to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories

I'm sorry you got in my way.
I'm sorry you were to fat to get around.
I'm sorry that you didn't die from my missiles, but instead had to die a slow and painful death in the lava.
I'm sorry that you somehow managed to live for a few moments as a skelletal.
Thanks Ms. Skelletal.
I'm sorry that I was blocked by a wall of spikes that can't be destroyed by any of my weapons, instead needed to be pushed from the other side by a moving living dead skeleton of a grotesque alien guy.
