why do the PSX and Saturn ports lag at all? I know their at a higher resolution but still its use so few polys even for that generation.
>>3496723
Only large rooms lag, not high numbers of enemies it projectiles. That's not really a full answer, but it does seem to have to do with the poly count of the room and nothing else.
It was most likely a hack job... some fellas must have been sweating a lot during design.
Wall height seems crucial to the slowdown although one can't exactly pin point what's the cause without having the code plus experience on both machines. Most likely it's also connected to improperly drawing Doom's world as in generating wall polygones from the line segs to accomodate the consoles way of "doing things". Carmack should have been asked to look over their shoulder.

graphics are not the only thing to impact performance in games. You could easily create a game that looks like straight out of something C64 was capable of, and still genuflect modern turbo PCs with ease.
In Doom's case, the games were drawn in software mode, and had to do lots of calculations.

Hiro has made it clear that we need to talk about and discuss what should be and should not be allowed on our boards. And that the mods must be regulated on a tight leash to follow our guidelines.
So let's talk about how to fix and improve /vr/. Also Hiro is watching mods, don't try to fuck us
>>3496160
Allow the rest of gen 6 so that gen 6 kiddies will quit shitposting the board out of spite and revenge.
Also get rid of the mod that abuses its powers around here.
Leave everything as it is
Stop the cunt of a mod deleting Arino threads. Pokemon pt 1 was soft subbed and we can't talk about it.
Same goes to the mod who deletes every thread with a mega link in it
Did you ever record yourself playing video games on VHS?
I recorded cutscenes and endings.
And passwords.
Not so much regular gameplay though.
When I first managed to beat Alex Kidd after many years I got so happy that I recorded the ending to show to my dad kek good times
Yeah but that tape also has me banging 90s chicks on it.
I'm thinking along the lines of RPGs, but surprise me.
What do you feel are the most engrossing games, the ones that eat your brain, that keep you in another world, that have meat, that give you a good amount of time and especially that make you feel things during the process of playing.
I've heard good things about Legend of Mana. I also got hold of Suikoden and SaGa Frontier-- are any of these right for what I am looking for?
I appreciate your input.

7th Saga with no guide and using the Elnard balance patch.

>What do you feel are the most engrossing games, the ones that eat your brain, that keep you in another world, that have meat, that give you a good amount of time and especially that make you feel things during the process of playing
non rpg:
- Shadow Man
- legacy of kain series
- cry of fear (half life mod)
- rayman revolution (rayman 2 port for the ps2 whit some extra open world features)
- urban chaos
- spyro the dragon
There are so many great RPGs for the SNES.
-Terranigma
-Illusion of Gaia
-Secret of Evermore
Those three are must plays imo
what are the best pre-3D racing games on home machines? I'm looking for stuff that isn't hindered by the weaker non-arcade hardware.
My personal favorites in this regard are:
F-1 Race (GB)
Super RC Pro-Am (GB)
The Great American Cross-Country Road Race (C64)
What are some other good ones?
Rock n roll racing
Blizzard at its best
>>3495967
STRETCH
IS IN ANOTHER TIME ZONE!
F1 Pole Position (GB)
Which is the best way to play FF5? GBA version with sound patch?
>>3495952
steam
Firstly just to be pedantic GBA is not retro. Secondly the GBA sound patch introduces static that is in my opinion very noticeable. Just play the SNES version with the English patch unless the fact they named him Butz in the fan translation is just to much for you.

SHUT THE FUCK UP. Ports are on topic, faggot. Are you really this fucking new here?
>He helped create Mega Man and likewise helped reinvent him on at least two occasions, dragging the Blue Bomber into 3D for Mega Man Legends, and then transforming him into an RPG hero in Battle Network. And when he felt he’d accomplished all he could with a company he spent two decades serving, Inafune set out on his own to create projects that he hoped would challenge the status quo of his homeland’s development process
>Outside of Nintendo first party staples like Mario, Samus, and Link, very few video games characters invented during the 8-bit era remain as widely recognizable. But Inafune’s Mega Man design exists at kind of a perfect nexus of simplicity and complex articulation that allows the Blue Bomber to be aesthetically adapted between a variety of game genres as well as manga, toys, and cartoons. He’s one of a tiny and elite fraternity of third-party characters to join the Smash Bros. roster, and the only third party NES-era character to ever do so.
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2016/09/13/the-30-year-legacy-of-keiji-inafune
Why is the gaming media still perpetuating the Inafune created Mega Man? There's this re-writing of Mega Man's history that removes everyone else, and makes Inafune the sole driving force of the series. No one in the gaming media does any actual journalism, and tries to investigate the real story. It's just repeating the "Inafune did everything" story again and again.
I was reading "The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers: Volume 1", and one interview subject discusses how Kitamura and Fujiwara clashed over a sequel. Kitamura went over his head, and went to Capcom Vice-president to get go ahead to make a sequel. The same guy said that Kitamura didn't get along with his colleagues at Capcom. He was assigned to console games because no one wanted to work with him. That stuff is interesting. Why don't we hear more about that
>helped
I'd assume Capcom wanted to make him the face of Megaman, like their own Shiggy. Kitamura left, so they wanted to erase him from public's memory. It'd be very inconvenient to them if they couldn't play the "from the creator of Megaman!!!" card.
And the media just loves reaffirming people's beliefs and stereotypes. That's why all top 10 NES games lists mention only best sellers and nothing else, it's all lowest common denominator stuff. Media needs views/shares, not actual journalism.
Inafune has some kind of an overblown ego. While your typical Japanese person is humble, he on the other hand always tried to put himself out there. Look at the Mighty No 9 kickstarter for instance. There was this poll where you could vote which art design would end up being used for Call. Inafune had his own submitted, but it was one of the least popular picks and it didn't win. He ended up using that design in the game anyway as the final boss.
This game sucks
DEAD.
FUCKING.
SERIOUS.
>>3495603
I mean yeah. But you know shut up.
So if American/Japanese-made games run slower than intended on PAL, does the same apply to the reverse meaning European-made run faster than intended on NTSC?
>>3495482
Doesn't matter. There aren't any worthwhile European-made games anyway.
>>3495482
They probably run just as shit as in PAL.
I don't know why the worthless parts of the world chose the worthless video standard. Bad colors and bad refresh rate.
Since this is the best cRPG ever made, what is exactly your excuse for not playing it?
Do you realize how many people haven't played it? That's a crime.
..isn't it lovely?
It's been on my list for a while. What should I know before starting?
Looks terrible. Why should i play this?
I really love H-games with these classic armors on characters.
I downloaded this game off a website that I forget the name of, where do you guys go for these old school themed dungeon h-games?
Retro eroge are on the PC9801 for the largest part, with the rest covered by PC8801 and Windows 9x.

>Name of Game
starring Dante?
>>3495359
Nope, it was inspired by "Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do To Deserve This?" and the girls have a vague Dragon Quest reference.
It was a pretty fun game and the studio's last effort, though not /vr/
Moments in games that pissed you off
>>3495086
i'd be mad too if my game looked that bad
So I started playing this game and for whatever reason it just sucked me the fuck in. How has this game managed to draw me in despite it being almost three decades old?
I never really played a Zelda game before so I have no idea what to expect.
Maybe you like it because it respects you as a player. It lets you go wherever you want and get lost. You create your own experience while playing the game.
I had never played this game until earlier this year, and although I had played several other Zelda games, there is a unique feeling to this one. Something about the minimalism and the atmosphere maybe. I think about how Miyamoto describes being inspired by his memories of exploring the outdoors as a kid and I can really see what he means. When I was a kid playing in the woods, fantasizing about adventure, i was dreaming of something that felt like this.
>>3495053
Probably because when you started the game, it literally fucking started. You were in instant control of your character.
and it didn't tell you where to go with 4 paths at the beginning and yadda yadda yadda
Would there be a way to port a game such as shovel knight to the nes or snes?
Maybe it could be down for SNES, but for NES it would have to be dumbed down because it has too many colors and too many fancy effects like background parallax.
>>3494787
it's probably be technically possible on the SNES, but it'd be an enormous amount of work
>>3494796
Not to mention how much space it would take up, it's a massive game.
Best version/port?
PSX
PSP
Saturn.
