It would be wise to suggest a replacement though.

You can easily convert RCT1/2's sound files to wav files by simply changing the extension from .dat to .wav. Then you can compress the files with any codec you want.

I'm not feeling any inspiration for a theme other than "standard theme park" which is already kinda there in the left plot, except my coaster's station would be ten times as shitty.

In OpenRCT2. In regular RCT2 the same thing happens but only if guests have maps and souvenirs I think.

I believe there was a fix that landed in recent versions of OpenRCT2 that addresses this though so try a more recent build

In the hypothetical case that I can move my lazy ass and create a Map/Scenario for some kind of XL/XXL collab...

How should they be? 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, bigger?
How much space should there be for every square?

What rides/scenery options should there be?

One entrance? Two? Four?

Any kind of landmarks? Like water canals in between the squares? Or a transport ride that circumnavigates the Park with Stations at Cardinal points?
>>

3x3 squares of 30x30.

https://github.com/OpenRCT2/OpenRCT2/pull/3798

No activity since June, it probably wont merged until after 0.0.5 anyway though. The devs are trying to finish re-implementing the entire game and after that they plan to refactor it and then release 0.0.5 as the first build that is completely independent of the original code. After that they'll probably be more open to new features and things like the expanded lighting will probably be easier to implement since the code will be more stable.
>>
>>3461421

Is using a different save format also slated for 0.0.5? Also, what's the best way to stay up to date with their progress?
>>
>>3460489
I noticed this when I was making it. It seems to be a bug with OpenRCT, because when I load the scenario in vanilla, it runs all 4 just fine. It looks like this applies to any coaster with more than 3 adjacent stations.

I'm not sure when they plan on the new save format. I'm not sure if they've said anything. For sure it will happen after the entire game is re-implemented though so at least 0.0.5 but possibly later.

The devs occasionally post updates and take questions on /r/openrct2 and their own forum but it's not very frequent. Their github page has their issue tracker, pull requests, and the commit log which lists all the recent changes so that's the best way to keep up with what is going on.

>>3461404
for the most part, it is finished, the problem is rendering it in-game. Lighting shows up through scenery, sometimes lights won't work causes object clipping etc. Those fancy videos only show the good stuff. The devs are working on an openGL renderer (you can see the state of it by turning it on in the options), when that is done they can implement the lighting fork into the main branch
>>
>>3461513
that first hill is way too twisty anon, I wouldn't recommend that on any coaster type. other than that, try to make sure the coaster isn't going through those unbanked turns at more than 40 km/h. If the train is going fast, having a second gentle incline at the bottom of a hill before going to flat track really helps too, the smoother roll in/out makes the drops less intense (and realistic), which can inversely affect your excitement rating
>>

I used to run develop but ran into some weird bug fucking with my completed scenarios. Bleeding edge software is seldom unstable in the sense that there's new crashes with every update, but you always run the risk of something unforseen happening. Especially if you use a launcher instead of manually installing updates and keep up to date with what have been changed. I might sound autistic, it's just a game and I could backup my stuff, but it's good practice when running develop branches and I keep up to date with the project.

>>
>>3468498
First off, youre trying to build like a regular coaster what should be small and compact. That's basically a mouse, and they have inherently shit stats. You shouldnt expect excitement to come within less than half a point of intensity, and that's AFTER blasting it with scenery.
>>
>>3468498

Those things have ass lateral Gs, too many fast/unbraked turns leads to very high intensity ratings on em
>>
>>3468548
I made sure that none of these turns are taken at more than 32 km/h (except the penultimate one at 37). Adding brakes dropped excitement by 0.07 but intensity by 0.17.

I think 1.5 lateral Gs was the threshold after which more just hurts your rating, for any kind of ride.

I can't start on the crackle collab. It says I'm missing a file named GWGRPBM/07000000943459F2 and I bet it's not the only missing file. How do I make this file/these files not missing?
>>
>>3473503
I'm not sure what that file is you're missing, if export custom content is ticked it should've exported with the map. You can try downloading and opening the original file from the collab document; or you can look up the missing file on NED; or i think openrct has an ignore missing files option but i'm not sure what would happen to the file for later contributors.
>>
>>3473534
Ah yes, it's working now. I should've been able to think of downloading the template. How do I turn on export custom content?

And... Why is everything closed? Why are there no guests? ???

In the options menu there should be something like "export custom content with save" tick it
I'm not sure, i guess the other dudes haven't opened the park, open it if you want but you might need to connect some paths around.

It's a regular twister coaster but with a train of the length of the entire station. I don't know why your game could crash, it worked fine for me, sorry for the inconvenience. Have you tried disabling train length and ride limits in the cheat menu?

You can enable cheats in the settings. After that, you should get a shovel button at the top left corner of the in-game menu. There, you can also do stuff like printing money, resetting the date, disable breakdowns, ... Basically everything that makes the game more fun lol
I don't know about the updating thing, though.

OpenRCT2 makes me micromanage my shit even more than I would in the base game. I also tend to build all my stuff with the game paused, since those park rating drops while building a coaster over the course of an in-game month (i.e. 7 minutes) always annoyed me the most.

use pic related as a reference, mix and match walls and fences from a few different scenery tabs, as plain brick/stone walls look too clean for convincing ruins.

As for the coaster, it's meh/10 imo. Take advantage of the fuckhuge cliffface, the ride currently focuses on the plateau too much and wiggles into spaghetti. If you're comfortable doing it, merging onto twister track so you could get a large loop and/or immelman in the valley would really take advantage of what makes dive machines unique.

I like launching the game, wanting to play, then I want to start a park with a coaster, it sucks, so I quit without saving, go cry a bit, restart the game a few days later and restart again. After several tries I can get a functional coast that doesn't blow too much, and I make a park with a lot of scenery around it. Then, elated with the success of the first coaster, I build more. Until I try to build a last one that blows dicks, so I quit without saving again and go cry, wait a few days, etc.

I'd say you can start with coasters just don't start with big ones. Start small and get a stable source of income then move up gradually to larger coasters.

Smaller coaster types like the junior are good for starting out because the track is cheap. You can't do anything too impressive with them though.

>>3481365
>I can't lower the station

is it literally best just to save a schematic of your coasters and just replace them every few months/years or whatever when their price goes down, just literally make the same exact coaster in the same spot and have your income back again?

I don't think its fair to be too harsh on little launch kicks. In a real coaster the size of the elements can be adjusted to match existing momentum. If the element can't be lowered and increasing the speed of everything before it pushes g-forces too far, there isnt much alternative other than scrapping the element entirely. If you insist on that, youre just childish.

Only a little. PING Shnupz (>>3488905), you gonna finish HEADACHE PARADISE anytime soon? It's been half a year.

Calm your tits, the thread likely won't be bumped off until late next week.

I don't care really, the one collab that's dead with me as the last builder involved me putting like 30 hours into a really detailed square which I overwrote with another save like a fucking retard

RCT3 is pretty damn good, but it's much harder to make really good parks, but with enough patience you can make fantastic looking parks. Of course though, no one really has the patience to make a good park in RCT3. It's much easier to make visual porn in RCT2, and RCT2 just has a better art direction.
>>
>>3489435
>anyone gonna freak out if I move the first four parks from "Ongoing Parks" to "Abandoned Parks"?
I'd say keep Freebuild_collab and HEADACHE PARADISE collab. The saves still exist so they can be finnished when someone feels like it.
>>
>>3447947
They made lamps more functional in OpenRCT2?
>>
>>3490683
They're ""working"" on it.
There's a million and one issues with the renderer, but once they get everything switched over to the new system it should fall into place
>>
What do you think of this scenario, does it have potential for a two people collab map? Downside would be that I only enabled custom scenery, apart from abstract theming.
>>
>>3490740
I think it looks great, but I can't answer your question.

>>
>>3490740
The bottom half is so much smaller than the top half.
Peeps will get super stuck on the roadside of the bottom half trying to get to either exit.
Only custom scenery makes you a bit of a stupid fuck and makes for a scenario you can use only like, twice.

They think guests ruin everything
>>
>>3491480
Those kinds of illusions are made easy in RCT because of how shitty the engine is with heights.

Make a hole three units deeper than its surroundings and you can't even select the block.

S&S/Premier launches

I would suggest another element channelge but I had to merge the train onto invisible impulse coaster track as it goes over the top hat, then build the B&M track that's on top of the loop backwards for aesthetics because it would merge with the half loop and cause the ride to crash. It lines up on the track perfect though

Looks trippy as fuck, but I like the idea of driving on the outer side of the loop.

And yeah, the video is quite hectic. You could have zoomed out to show most of the track while, increased the ride window to its max size and just let it roll. Also, use keyboard shortcuts if you have to rotate the view.

But eh, you're much better at all that other stuff where I'll never reach your level.

sure thing, if I ever record again I'll learn my shortcuts and limit the camera movement. Thanks anon

As for my building ability, I was pretty average at the start of this year, for the most part I just used a basic understanding of the major manufacturers. I've lurked fansites like RCTmart, rct2.com, New element etc since I got the game in the early 2000's. My scenery was blocky and basic, nothing special. Playing with other people and learning from them in real time really helped me improve and motivated me to try new things and get creative. You'll git gud someday anon, just keep having fun!

I was fagchecking somebody who applied for the server I play on and moderate, all the stuff he uploaded to get accepted had been seen by most of the other mods on >leddit and New Element so I had to go through and see if it was actually this guy who made the stuff or if he just grabbed random shit and claimed it was his

>implying I would touch leddit for anything other than vidya with small communities that don't have /vg/ threads
>>
I've noticed on several of my coasters (don't remember seeing it with other rides) that guests leave the queue for no apparent reason. I didn't change the ride, they have enough money and are usually happy with no pressing desires. Wait time can't be an issue either, as only one ride has a waiting time of more than 7 minutes (the swinging inverter ship).

What's wrong with them?

That comes from a real coaster that's at my home park, SFMM.
>>
>>3497883
I was going to use the 6-car hyper twister train to make it closer to full throttle but they have way too low friction, the train was just sanic as fuck.
>>
>>3495829
Your ride degrades over time. People don't want to pay as much for it as when it was new
>>
>>3498427
One of those rides is less than a month old, priced at $8 with an excitement just over 8. Guest aren't thinking "I'm not paying that much for…" either. They just wait in line, then walk back when they're supposed to enter (or perhaps shortly before).

RCT3 sadly came out in a very bad transition period of people trying to move from 2D and pixels to full 3D along with the fact that the market was flooded with tycoon games.

It doesn't really play well or look very good. It's biggest selling point is that i has an updated ride list, water parks and is a lot easier to mod and make custom scenery. Other than that gameplay wise it's average. It's a lot slower and a lot of the new features and things they tried to add and improve either where crap or just made worse.

If you want a game that works on modern computers, is easy to mod manage and plays just like RCT look up parkitect in steam. Almost a 1x1 clone of RCT. IT's in EA but in it's current state it's still amazing. Closest we have till Planet Coaster comes out and doesn't require a super computer to run.
>>
So, I found this on one of my old USB drives. Would anyone be down for a larger version of the 2x2 collab? I know that having smaller squares is part of the experience but I like the potential to build bigger rollercoasters in a collab.
>>
>>3501275
I would be up for it. Sounds fun.
>>
>>3499957

Can you post Dynamite Blaster and Other Phobias in the coaster creator please? I'm having a hard time with the underground parts since it's getting cut off a bit.

Will also be posting progress of my recreations soon. Parkitect does not use a measurment system for building yet so everything is just a whole number instead of being labeled properly so getting accurate heights is really fucking annoying.

Also for those of you who have any rides you want recreated in Parkitect or Planet Coaster you should start taking screen shots and post them unhindered with hight markings. There are a lot of people who are trying to recreate rides but don't have any good reference pictures.

What I must do now?
>>
>>3501657
Extract the files from the .tar.gz, extract the files from the GoG installer somewhere. Try to run the OpenRCT2 binary and when it asks for the RCT2 installation directory point it to the RCT2 files are.

Last time I tried the native linux client the thing didn't work at all but the windows client works very well through WINE.

I didn't notice before but there's actually a PPA for Ubuntu to install the game and its dependencies.

https://launchpad.net/~openrct2/+archive/ubuntu/nightly

Follow the directions there and it should work I think. Then you'll just have to change the config file to point to the RCT2 install
>>
>>3501754
After you install the game you have to go to ~/.config/OpenRCT2 and edit config.ini

change game_path ="" to point to the directory where you put RCT
