So why didn't Ocelot succumb to Foxdie? He was in the same room with Snake for as long as Octopus.

Wasn't it explained later?
Because he's a Patriot right? And was secretly working against Liquid AND Solid?

I mean hell they even went out of the way to explain how Big Boss survives Metal Gear 1's killing of him by saying it was Venom Snake it killed.

Was this game an anti American allegory, and green movement propaganda?

No

It, along with many games released at the time, was a poor re-creation of actual GOOD games in a 3D setting. It's supposed to be Final Fantasy 3 in 3D but not the exact same game.

I love my not a book person game, but man did it look like ass even at the time it came out.

This game did everything well except combat and plot. The plot in jRPG is hardly interesting, but FF and DQ at least gave you a big world to explore, whereas here you have no space for such activities. And with combat, you win literally by holding one button down.

even to this day, this game still amazes me graphically. i like the combat, but it's not THAT great.

imo, beyond oasis has the best combat of any 2d action-rpg/action-adventure game to date

it had a plot? I thought you just explore and kill stuff.

The game is 100% reflex. If you suck at it, you just need to train your eyesight.
>>
>>3499284
>The game is 100% reflex
Completely false.
It's about:
>memorizing the patterns to get the biggest and fastest chains
>watching your opponent's screen to time attacks correctly
>managing your charge bar, using extra and boss attacks correctly
>and of course basic STG skills

Even though it look cute it's a serious competitive game.

Heya /vr/, I need help tracking this old game;

It was a fantasy JRPG for the SNES or NES, the plotline involved the return of evil monsters that had been sealed away. You started off the game on your birthday, and I remember a part where you blew out the cake. You could explore a castle, talk to some fortune teller lady. Later on you could either turn into a monster or gain the ability to talk to them, I wasn't sure.

I wish I remembered more, but the details of the game elude me.

I never recalled playing it as a kid either -- I definitely remember going down into the well but never beating this boss. Is it required? Maybe we just blocked out the terror.

I do remember as an adult playing through this game and beating him however.

Just decided to get into this game and running into difficulties both technical and gameplay related. Trying to complete vanilla before moving on to 1.13, like someone recommended in an earlier thread.

Technical problems involve slowass animations and screen scrolling, this happens in both gog and pirated gold version and is quite frustrating. Would welcome a fix if anyone has any.

I also don't get gameplay. Like my expert stealth merc can't sneak up on a hostile within shooting range even when it's pitch black, the guy is facing away, my merc has night goggles and is prone the whole time. What gives? How to generally succeed in both combat and money management?

Also, all things Jagged Alliance thread.

Is your character actually on stealth mode? Press z to toggle stealth mode on and off. Also, did you apply a camo kit? Are you using suppressed weapons? Lastly, stay away from light sources.

download and install 1.13 but switch to the vanilla config. it should contain technical fixes while retaining original gameplay, i think

>Like my expert stealth merc can't sneak up on a hostile within shooting range even when it's pitch black, the guy is facing away, my merc has night goggles and is prone the whole time
hold Delete or End to see fields of view
iirc vanilla has 360 visibility while 1.13 adds cone visibility and tunnel vision when using scopes/binoculars

^ Diablo Thread

Is it just me or is Diablo II way, way too easy? Me and my brother have had the game for a good few years and played it over LAN but we're not exactly pros, we've always stopped around act 3 or 4 normal mode and never played on battle.net. We recently started playing the game again - he's a necromancer, and I'm a paladin. We thought the game would get harder in nightmare and hell mode, but we're up to act 4 in nightmare mode and it's still so easy that we're considering stopping. Nothing poses any kind of threat, the only time I've died is when I got caught out by a monster with thorns aura which reflected my really strong attack back and killed me. It pretty much feels like grinding at this point. Is necromancer + paladin just an undefeatable combo or is the game just mind numbingly easy?

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Diablo 1 multiplayer kicks our asses. It took forever to us to kill the skeleton king. Having fun with that currently.

You are doing it wrong OP. The proper way to play Diablo 2 is on hardcore character on players 8. Thats when it gets fun.
>>
>>3498103
Trouble is, my brother is the only other person I know who has ever played Diablo 1 or 2 and I'm not too sure about playing online with random people.
>>
>>3498108
He didn't mean finding 7 random players.

Normally, in a multiplayer game, enemies will increase in power but also have a higher chance of dropping items etc depending on the number of players to compensate for the player advantage

But there's a console command you can type in to simulate that power increase except without needing other people with you

Is a Nokia communicator 9300 capable of any emulation?
Or any old phone games?
It has a keyboard, and that made me think about it.

>>
>>3497970
No,I have my normal phone+controller for that.
>>
>>3497956
Of course. Any system is "capable" of emulating something. It's just a question of what, how well, and how fast.
I had several communicator models and they were all shit for emulation although emulators did exist. In the same period I had several Pocket PCs, mostly ipaqs, that emulated quite a bit pretty well.
The keyboard on the communicator would be good for maybe 8 bit computer games that don't use a joystick. Many PocketPCs had a dpad and were great for emulating games everything else.

So, I made the plunge and bought an NES at hipster pricing. Now that I have it, a few questions:
>where to buy games, eBay is mostly overpriced
>what are good games for a party, i.e. something people can pick up and play when they see the system and are interested

Mario Party 1, 2 and 3, Starfox 64, Super Smash Bros.
>>
ebay, amazon, pricecharting, local stores.

gauntlet, battletoads, bubblebobble, TMNT, any fighting game, contra, bomberman 2.
the cost of all of those = a flash cart.

nes is not the best multiplayer system.
>>
you either have to be a richster or steal the games pretty much, even smb/duck hunt is going for 60 bucks around here, and i live in oogaboogastan.
