Go away, dumb frog poster.
There's like 300 games total, there aren't any hidden gems or obscurities.
From Japan, there's Sin and Punishment (Tsumi no Batsu) or Animal Crossing (Dobutsu no Mori).

All those games and only like 5 are worth playing... JUST

>hell yeah Castlevania DxC
>it doesn't fucking work
It's like they want people to pirate it
>finally
Mate, PPSSPP has been able to emulate that for years. Also, DXC is a shit remake honestly.
Which one do you prefer?
>>3511552
The one on the right. Pic related was one of my first games so it's conditioned into me.
>>3511552
Slight preference for the classic, the ring of colors adds a nice air of the unusual. i especially like how it flashed in the original SMB. Real shame they've never brought that back.
The World version was a little confusing when I first saw it. Same with flip bricks and Galoombas.

Why do people value this kind of games that much?
I mean, they call them the best RPGs, but the only decent thing about them is conversation trees, while every game related parts are at best mediocre or plain bad.
There are almost no bosses, dungeon crawling is basically absent or trivialized by save where you want feature, same goes for any risk and reward mechanics, combat is just atrocious, etc.
What left is some non-gamey world simulation full of dad jokes and pretty good amount of dialog options. Why not playing VNs and date sims then? At least those are focused on it and you don't need to wait for every bum in the city to make his move.
>full of dad jokes
Dating sims are a deep and complex genre. They need way more planning and intuition than other RPGs because you can't just grind your way through.

Were the MD Sonic the Hedgehog games that special? I love Sonic and they're good games but I can't tell if they were particularly amazing platformers for their day or just popular ones. Many games copied them so it's hard to tell.
>>3510506
I don't know of any retro platformer with physics as smooth as the classic sonic games.
>>3510510
Bubsy
>>3510506
They are amazing,. They're elegantly simple, one button games where the variation in gameplay revolves around taking advantage of the robust physics system for a near infinite skill ceiling and new ways to play every time
Hey /vr/, why aren't you playing Pac-Man Xtreme? This thing's something else.
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3087/
What's the difference between it and regular Pac-Man?
>>3510438
It's Xtreme,,can't you read?
>>3510439
Nope, I'm illiterate
You're not a hardcore gamer if you've never beaten the third level of Cadillacs & Dinosaurs without taking the car.
>>3510104
>not driving the Cadillac in Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
Sounds like you're a hardcore retard.

so sad this game was never ported to anything. would be so great on saturn or sega cd

arcade master race has the most exclusives and best versions.
So my wife's son and I popped this in on a whim and are enjoying the hell out of it. Any thoughts on this series? Is this the best one?
bump for interest
1 and 2 were pretty good.
Liked 2 more than 1
2 is the best one. 3 just doesn't keep the charm on the upgrade to Saturn, also Shining Force 3 American version is just shining force 3:part 1 of 3 and parts 2 and 3 weren't released in America ever.
Just mod chipped my ps1
Post your favorite ps1 games that you must play and I'll download it.

Spyro, Tekken 3, Tomb Raider (or FF Tactics), Ridge Racer.
Ticks off the 4 basic catagories: platformer, fighting, action/adventure/RPG and racing.
Can we a thread going with your personal experiences at retro vidya shops in your city? Either good or bad reviews welcome.
Buffalo here. The only real retro store we have is the oogie games chain. They're all over the map really. Some things are way overpriced but you can find a deal here or there. Most prices are right off ebay. I've had better luck getting specific items from reseller scum in the area who monopolize the market here, but usually sell for under ebay prices.

Fort myers here. The store i go to has genesis stuff for a decent price and he sells Jap import game buy one get one free
8 bit hall of fame
I've seen 3 separate Play n' Trades (That is literally the only chain that sells retro games anymore around here) get eaten by Gamestop. And now I just feel sad.
>>3510154
where is "around here" anon?
Also, does anyone know of anywhere with decent inventory and prices in Toronto? I'll be there in a few hours.
Pick one song from a retro game that had an excellent soundtrack. You can only pick one for each game. Pic and link related.

Also, on a sidenote, I could have sworn that I read somewhere as a kid that Red Hot Chili Peppers had a hand in composing the music for this game? I went on into adulthood thinking this and found out it wasn't true at all. Why did I think this? Berenstain?

So I've been wanting to play some old school first person shooters on the PS1 lately; been thinking of grabbing this to give it a play.
Which first person shooters for the PS1 would you recommend?
That one and Medal of Honor: Underground are both very cool. Gotta look past the jankiness of the engine and appreciate the awesome sound effects and atmosphere.
Disruptor is a very good FPS. Looks good, runs well, great mission variety and has a gun/psionics dual wield setup. Also deliciously hammy FMV acting.
Alien Trilogy is kinda weak in a lot of ways, mechanically, but it's still pretty cool if you're an Alien fan. Just don't expect it to feel like the AvP marine campaign.
>>3509251
alien trilogy also has awesomely good music

The Ultimate DOOM is a must play for FPS fans in general. PS1 port is great, totally worth it if you've never played Doom.
