The way that looks best to you
>>
>>3511520
Do a PS1-HDMI mod.

Make sure you are up-scaling on 2x, 3x or 4x.

You should be able to find S-Video or Component AV Multi cables on Amazon.
>>
>>3511530
would this work http://www.ebay.com/itm/1PC-AV2HDMI-Upscaler-1080P-PS2-DV-Adpter-AV-RCA-to-HDMI-VIDEO-CONVERTER-ADAPTER-/142098984672?hash=item2115c26ee0:g:RiEAAOSw-vlVi7yN
>>
On a softmodded PS2 using GSM to force 480p over component - or just on a PS3.
>>
>>3511543
PS1 doesn't support component.
>>
FrameMeister with scart, Sync on luma if you can find such a cable due to lack of raw sync.
>>
S Video would be the best way in my opinion.

Wires do the trick most times

You use a ps3. Done.
>>
>>3512161
Pretty much this. Unless your PS1 is modded or a different region, there's no reason not to use a PS3 to play PS1 games instead.
>>
>>3512161
>>3512175
Well there is a pretty good reason...

PS1 games look like blurry shit on PS3
>>
>>3512459
Oh yeah and a lot of games (Tomb Raider 1 & 2, Wip3out etc) simply will not run full stop on a PS3
>>
>>3512459
then use an emulator
>>
>>3512459
Let's go back up to the top and see the original question...then talk about how bad ps3 makes ps1 games look.
I don't think it matters, since any way you connect a ps1 to an hdtv, outside of a scaler, it's going to look like shit...and lag.
>>
>>3512459
You have two options for PS1 games on PS3, pixellized as shit and blurry as shit. That's really the best you're gonna get on an HDTV outside of emulation.
>>
I am going to have to say emulate. PSX emulators can produce a far far better picture on modern PC monitors than the actual PS1. You can get a USB adapter for your PS1 controller and use the original discs in your DVD drive.

Alternatively pick up an old CTR for the genuine experience.

RGB through a Framemeister
>>
>>3511520
A PS2 or PSX through YPbPr component.
>>
>>3512935
>RGB through a Framemeister

Framemeister would get you awful lag in many games, since it craps up for half a minute when a game switches internal resolution.
>>
>>3511520
Don't. It will look like shit.
>>
>>3512972
Original Playstations cannot output YPbPr they're RGB only.
>>
>>3513424
why dont someone make a mod
>>
>>3513439
they did it with n64 http://retrorgb.com/ultrahdmi.html
>>
>>3513424
a psx could though, he meant it literally and ths is why ps=psx is stupid.

it should be ps
ps1 is acceptable because it is still precise
psx is confusing because it is two seperate devices

>>3512459
turn of smoothing and try different resolutions by unselecting them in setup.

ie. try 1080p, 720p, then 480p as the highest resolutions. de-select all interlaced resolutions and set audio to 2 channel only unless you have a surround sound setup.

Mine likes 720p
>>
>>3511520
why would you bother? the PS3 does an excellent job of converting PS1 games to HD
>>
>>3511520
Open Source Scan Converter

As good as the Framemeister except you're not paying an extra $100 + import fees for a device that will take 8 seconds to sync when you enter/exit menus in games like Resident Evil 2
>>
>>3511520
with a ps2 through component cables, you get a far better laser there, the music and videos never skip.
>>
>>3513450
don't be autistic. everyone who calls it a psx means the playstation.
>>
>>3513545
No veteran calls it a psx, it is greenhorn terminology from a younger generation. We just called it playstation. there was no 2, there were no acronyms for it outside of magazines. and we wouldn't say an acronym *LOL out loud back then anyways.

Hey neighbor (no anon yet) you want to play some psx?"

"what the fuck?"

PS or PS1 kiddos stop confusing us old faags that know what a psx is because we wanted that sweet dvd player and playstation combination. You will neer get to feel the feels when PS2 was announced with full backwards compatibility and a dvd player.
>>
>>3513586
oh we were calling it the psx before it came out. It's pretty obvious you just read wikipedia and aren't old enough to remember when the playstation came out.
>>
My TV won't even display if I hook my PS1 up to it. It just says mode not supported, so I guess 240p is what it runs in and is just too old for some modern displays. Even if I hook up my PS2 and put in a PS1 game it still won't play. Luckily I still have my CRT for now, but just beware of that.
>>
>>3513501
Do you have one of these? It looks like a good option, but you can't get HDMI audio, and it's 720p only. Less lag than framemeister though, I remember reading it's about half.
>>
>>3513687
LCDs sometimes don't support 240p over component which gives people problems for ps1 games on ps2, but they should at least display something over the composite input regardless. Even if it's being interpolated to 480i (which is really ugly). Have you tried both modes, what kind of cables are you using?

It's been a year since I tried so I can't remember, I have both cable types though. I figured if one didn't work the other wouldn't either so I doubt I tried both. I'll keep it in mind to check again if I ever try to hook up to this TV again but it's too much hassle to get back there now.
>>
>>3513450
Oh fuck off, nerd.
>>
>>3513689
720p is good. 1080p is impossible because it's non-integer scaling and the OSSC deals with content on a line by line basis (it achieves 720p by repeating the same line three times, line-tripling).
>>
>>3513962
some of the framemeister profiles use a 5x scale and cut off the top and bottom about the same amount (14px?) that an older television would. I wonder if doing something like that would be possible given how the ossc works. cutting off part of the frame isn't to everyone's taste but there's also a 4x profile, with black bars on all sides. I assume there is a technical reason this can't work, such as having to further process the signal. My TV adds a frame of lag for scaling 720p up on top of its normal operation lag. Seems silly to scale the inputs twice

Your best bet is PS2 Component input, but the unfortunate thing about that is it really depends on the set you have.

Pic related is my Emerson LF391EM4 with Clock Tower 2 on my PS2 slim. Now remember that Component doesn't re-render anything, it just makes it tolerable enough for playing on an HDTV, otherwise it looks like a blurry piece of shit.

I don't know what the best HDTV set there is because I'm not a monitor aficionado, but I personally like this set because there is almost no input lag when using a wired controller and there's actually a 3.5mm headphone input on the left side, which unfortunately carries over some of the sound of the video signal (higher pitched tone when the screen produces a light color, much like a CRT does).

Also, these are iPhone pictures. I wish I had a better camera, but I think these pictures are fine enough.

This one is Strikers 1945

>>3513586
I've been calling it psx since the days when it was first advertised.
I don't have trouble referring to the original PlayStation as psx and the psone as ps1/psone. Neither does any other gamer I actually know.
>>
>>3512985
>Framemeister would get you awful lag in many games
Eh, depends on the TV. I have a cheap 42" RCA LED that gets amazing lag results when using the 240p test suite.

>>
The best way to play ps1 games is with a ps2 using component cables on a CRT TV. Every other way is shit.
>>
>>3511520
Composite.
>>
>>3512459
Are you talking about actual PS1 game disks on the PS3 or PS1 games downloaded from the Playstation store? Downloaded games from the Playstation store usually look like blurry dogshit but actual PS1 game disks on my PS3 look just as sharp as when played on an actual PS1, some games look even sharper than on original hardware
>>
>>3516749
That shouldn't be the case seeing as PS1 Classics are literally just the original ISO and there's no difference in the technology being used to play them vs. an actual disc. Maybe you're not turning the smoothing off?
