What's the best way to play this on PC?

>emulate the PS1 version if you want the cheesy dub
>emulate the PSP version if you want the Japanese voice acting or boring dub
SSF emulator + Nocturne in the Moonlight.
3DO appreciation thread?
I recently decided to make an LP for one of my favorite RPGs to come from the console since no one else has done one.

>mfw still waiting for mine to come for atleast a month
I buy factory sealed copies of old games just to open them. How does that make you feel, /vr/?
>>3507020
>How does that make you feel, /vr/?
like you're wasting your money
you would have to be a next-level tool to care. games were made to be opened and played.
I don't care. Or wouldn't, if this were true.
What are your thoughts on CRT shaders?
Soft and grainy preset used from here:
http://libretro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6577
With these tweaks:

>>3506980
That looks awful
some of them look alright, but they all add additional input lag on top of the 2 frames you already get from playing on emulator which defeats the purpose of CRT for most people. playing with a CRT filter for muh nostalgia is retarded.
the one you posted looks like garbage. PS1 outputs RGB natively, PS2 plays PS1 in component video. both of these look way better than that, buy a CRT and a console for like 10 bucks. if that's too much then turn your shitty filter off.
Finally found the right shader file for PS1 games.
Before I had to deal with heavy pixelation or blurry as hell but smooth.
Now I found one that is a good mix between both.
is this game good
That's 4 games. Yes, good.
>>3506959
wat i dont get is why they made two version one with super mario world and one without
>>3506962
one was bundled with SNES and the other was sold stand-alone.
Look at this shit. Terrible layout, "scary" blood font for the headlines, ugly font for the main text, bad colors, no eye for composition, with a background that looks like it's from Runescape.
That's the late 90s for you. Yeah probably the japanese one is a lot more tasteful.
>>3506942
Compared to this, with nice hand drawn portraits (they really liked showing off awful CG in the 90s), beautiful fonts, complimentary colors, tasteful use of effects. Overall so much more care and taste were put in Japanese manuals.
>>3506942
Well, if I'm being honest, I don't believe many younger individuals at the time really noticed or cared much, so you can't blame the companies.
I have my old PAL 64 and SNES, both with standard composite cables. I want to connect them to my HDTV and have them look as good as possible.
I don't know if I'm comfortable modding them though, unless it's insanely easy.
Is S-Video the best bet for 64, and if so, is there a good S-Video -HDMI converter?
With SNES, I've heard you can use SCART, but what about YPbPr component?
And is there a good HDMI converter solution?
I've heard of the Framemeister but also keep hearing it's a meme that's not worth the money.
Did you think you were on Google when you typed that post out?
>>3506904
>I have my old PAL 64 and SNES, both with standard composite cables. I want to connect them to my HDTV and have them look as good as possible.
>I don't know if I'm comfortable modding them though, unless it's insanely easy.
neither of those consoles are easy to mod, you don't have to mod the snes to get the best out of it though, all you'd need would be a s-video or scart cable.
>Is S-Video the best bet for 64, and if so, is there a good S-Video -HDMI converter?
ni about 64 but the xrgb mini and the homebrew thing are the only way to convert those signals well and you don't seem to care enough so maybe go with this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/NI5L-Scart-HDMI-to-HDMI-720P-1080P-HD-Video-Converter-Box-for-HDTV-DVD-STB-Free/32615306395.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.20.pkWaXm&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_8,searchweb201602_4_10057_10056_10065_10068_10055_10054_10069_10059_10058_418_10073_10017_10070_10060_10061_10052_10062_10053_10050_10051,searchweb201603_1&btsid=9214e1f6-449c-48d6-a1ba-0e0b43952c05 it's laggy and crappy at upscaling but will probably do a better job than the hdtv itself.
>With SNES, I've heard you can use SCART, but what about YPbPr component?
no unless you do extensive modding/get a converter, which are supposed to work pretty well.
>And is there a good HDMI converter solution?
see above
>I've heard of the Framemeister but also keep hearing it's a meme that's not worth the money.
probably not worth it if you only have those two consoles/don't have a decent crt to compare it to.
Framemeister is good if you feed it RGB. Most SNES including PAL can output RGB with no modification. PAL N64 requires significant modification including installation of a daughterboard.
It's actually very hard to play N64 properly on an HDTV either through real hardware or through emulation. Framemeister upscaling SVideo will probably be acceptable to you though.
ITT: games that need competent retranslations.
(I have no idea what's going on)
Why did it end up being such a mess in the first place? Most of the time what the characters say doesn't even make sense.
>>3506908
It was a real trip. You mostly know where to go and what to do, and the gameplay is simplistic, but the story is like...wut. They might as well had released it with Japanese text.
Simon's Quest and Final Fantasy Tactics come to mind. There's romhacks for both, of course, but it's hard to believe they were playtested in English at all.
What does /vr/ think about this controller? Looks good to me but I've never tried one.
Would you rather just refurbish your regular 64 controller? Or use a GC controller with 64 adapter?
Looks good but they're outrageously expensive. Way cheaper to just refurb a 64 controller.
>>3506854
Looks terrible for Mischief Makers, The New Tetris, Tetrisphere, and Dr. Mario
Depending on where Z is, looks overall better than the original
>>3506860
can you refurbish the regular 64 controller in a way that makes it more robust than the original design?
What's the best monitor I can buy to work with a XRGB mini bros? I really want a better one than the benq one I got with my pc but it has to tatable. What kind of stuff do I look for?
No one? Bump
>>3506850
You frankly won't get much help here on this topic. It's either CRT purists or people who don't give a shit and use any generic LCD with high latency, there's no in-between here.
>>3506850

ITT: Casual Filter.
That's like the first boss to farm from.
>>3506827
don't you talk to me about casual filters.
>>3506928
Or my wife's son.
Why is this stage disliked so much?
>>3506552
I suppose abysmal framerate on some areas and sloppy physics didn't help too much. You can only appreciate WW by playing the remake imo.
>>3506552
All you do is hold right. It tries to be a diff. Stage with its verticality but I imagine most people play it like a normal Sonic stage, beat it in 50 seconds and denounce it as terrible
>>3506552
too much wackiness

Aw man I missed the titles for these threads
anyone excited for the mini nes? i am!
I don't need to buy a dedicated system to emulate. I'm sure hipsters and nu-males will love the nerd cred they get from it though.
>>3506359
hipsters buy original consoles and "collect" for them though.
this is exactly the kind of thing a hipster would hate
>>3506359
Retro gaming isn't your secret club.
Fucking.
REE.
Non-retro, but the original console versions RE4 and Beyond Good and Evil also triggered my 'tism with this shit.
I think this is (thankfully) the only /vr/ game to to this.
>>3506081
Pictured is MDK for those unaware.
That's letterboxing.
FM Towns is full of that shit.
>>3506109
Yeah, thought I had it wrong in the back of my mind. Thanks.
In any case it's just the worst.
"Check it out, dude, we made the game widescreen when gives you a better viewing angle."
Okay dev, this kinda reduces resolution on my 4:3 display, but I see what you're doing.
This ought to look amazing on my 16:9 display though, right?
"Well, about that..."
