games which blatantly copy a zelda game or just take some mechanics
>>3504508
Try Golden Axe Warrior for the Sega Master System
Crusader of Centy. Genesis' take on ALTTP.
Being a Zelda clone isn't a bad thing though, they're good games and having more of that with different characters and stories is great.
>>3504508
I will never replay this game. Holy fucking shit those puzzles.
>spotted on normiebook with iShit
Are you kidding me? Are N64s that expensive that some scam website is lying that it's $65? Fuck the retro market. This is ridiculous.
>>3504492
$65 is about average price or slightly above for an N64
>>3504492
You seriously think a mint n64 with all the hookups and controller and 2 games isn't worth that much?
>>3504505
You seriously think it is?
SMB2 seems to be considered among the easier Marios, but I actually find it the hardest. I wonder if it just has to do with your play style; i find this game significantly more difficult than 1 and 3, becuase in those games it seems memorization serves you better. In 2, I feel like you need better dexterity and the ability to adjust to the situation.
Pic related is something I still have incredible difficulty with, after all these years. I just can't get it. Digging in the sand with the shy guys, the ones shooting bullets..its a nightmare. And whenever I grab a key, it makes me incredibly nervous when the masks chase me. I know Toad is best for digging but even then I struggle (and I like to do everything as Mario).
So...thoughts on Mario 2?
>>3504230
It's incredibly difficult if you play with Luigi or the princess. Yes, the princess. She's a good character if you want to minimize deaths to bottomless pits, but she takes forever to dig and pick up objects. This forces you to synchronize your movements to avoid the jabs of the shy guy orTHE MASK.
As for Luigi, I don't know. I can't get around with him. As a kid I enjoyed playing with Luigi because I liked how he jumped. Then I got to the latter levels and it became a literal hell.
I never found SMB2 to be particularly difficult.
>it makes me incredibly nervous when the masks chase me
That's fucking funny. Happens to me too.
I'll start off
>>3504067
lmao that isnt a real game
>>3504094
yeah it is
>>3504067
It's a corridor game and they still managed to fuck up the controls. It's unplayable.
reboot when
I can't imagine that game would run well on the SNES.
>>3503487
You'd be surprised. It's my 2nd favorite version, right behind the arcade.
Did this game have to employ programming tricks, or is the high number of sprites within the SNES's capabilities?
Suggest me some GOG nice games to purchase?
>>3503418
Geneforge series
King of Dragon Pass
Might and Magic 6 pack
Silent Storm
>>3503418
Didn't realize this was a /vr/ thread and not /v/. Scratch silent storm but I'd still keep Geneforge even if it's past the cutoff date because the author has been essentially remaking the same few games since 1995
Most of Troika's stuff is a pretty good pickup. Just remember to patch.VtMB is pre-patched with the bugfix thing, but you might still want to patch with the latest version of the plus patch.
When you played Sonic as a kid, did you imagine his spin attack was a blunt force ball attack or that he used his spines as a buzzsaw?
From the physics the damage is definitely from the blunt force.
>>3503416
When I played Sonic as a kid, he didn't have a spin-dash.
>>3503416
Considering his spines go backwards, a spindash would be bludgeoning unless he was somehow moving backwards while spinning forwards, which would be painful as fuck
Hiro is allowing boards to openly discuss their rules, basically to determine how we want things ran.
Original thread: >>3496160
GBA, with it's huge ties with retro franchises and consoles, has long been suggested to be fully allowed on /vr/ like the Dreamcast, and the old poll shows that may just be the consensus.
However the slippery slope is feared by some that this may allow the rest of the sixth generation, even though pro-GBA don't seem to consider PS2/XBox retro, though GCN isn't being slammed as hard with it's ties to the GBA.
The new poll is to address the concerns of everyone, and should help with a final consensus of how /vr/ views the sixth generation as a whole.
New Poll: http://www.strawpoll.me/11234131/
>>3503106
The opposition seems to have this as their arguments.
-Fucking 6th millennial babbies
-It will bring Halo's 12 year old fans here
-We shouldn't even have 5th gen
-I will shitpost 6th gen threads to death if they're allowed
I really don't see why their side is a thing
>I'm going to post this shit again and again hoping people would stop telling me to fuck off.
Your poll isn't worth anything, everybody can reset their routers to vote as many times as they want, and judging by your eager I'm pretty sure you would never do that uh.
Started playing this gem again the last weeks. It's so damn cozy and good. I really enjoy both the questing and the "xxx-run"-system.
I only have a Meteorb sorc atm, to grind up some gear for other characters. Planning on doing my first serious attempt at a lightning-Amazon. But trapsin is lot of fun aswell.
Anyone up for a little community? Trying to keep a server up all the time for muling and maybe do some runs together.
Btw, found Shako yesterday
>>3503013
I'd be up but Blizzard locked my account because of "suspicious activity" and I said "Unlock it NOW, fuckface".
They didn't, I did a chargeback on my credit card, and they banned me.
>>3503040
I've only gotten like 15min bans for suspected muling. What caused your ban?
>>3503013
xxx-run system?
you should also note that ladder resets in nov/dec usually, so if you want to make high end runewords, it might be better to wait until you have a full season to play

>There is also a x68000 version of this game, which features many more encounters, and a large scrolling world with an animated girl icon. I assume this was a later version of the game.
Good thing they didn't translate that.
The other games probably had like ten lines of simple text in total.
Does anyone have the original game? I'd like to compare the text.
>今日は久しぶりに彼とデートなんで、ど服を着て行こうかと迷っているんです。
I'm missing a mention of her boyfriend in the translation
>>3503041
>that spacing
Pure eye cancer.
why was megaman 2 for the gameboy so much shorter than the first megaman?
It was made by a different set of developers, who made the game way easier.
its still a great game, it just feels off. i guess that makes sense though if you say its done by a different team. the music is different for no reason also, and you cant even soft reset!? 1 was a good game (much harder), and it just felt a lot longer than this.
its a shame, they could have made it the defining game in the gameboy series...
what would you say the defining gameboy megaman is?
>>3502976
Megaman V. The stardroid whee originan boss. Having Sunstar has the final boss was a nice twist.
How do I go about making gifs of retro games like the one in my post?
I've looked but I haven't found a reliable way to losslessly record a game, and then make that recording into an optimized gif with the same amount of colors as the source material and all that jazz.
what game is it?
>>3502816
The game in the OP and other PC games in generalI seriously hope you aren't just asking for source.
>>3502870
Oh sorry, I didn't know I was on /a/.
I am thinking of getting Ys Book 1 and 2 off the Wii's Virtual Console (it costs $8), however, most of the RPGs from the late 80's and early 90's are very dated in terms of their game play and do not hold up at all.
The game seems to have a nice soundtrack, but is this really a good game, or is it just famous for being among the first RPGs to really utilize the CD format?
>>3502737
Everything is worth playing right now if you care enough.
>>3502737
Ys 1+2 Eternal, Complete, or Chronicles, sure. The TCD version of Ys 1+2 are still good, but as far as gameplay goes the remakes are better in almost every way.
>>3502737
Yes, Book 1 and 2 is really comfy
what are some games that make you feel like a little boy again
Cave explorer
>>3502598
Oh wait, crap. I read OPs post wrong.
Alright, we're bottomed out finding it on Google. We're trying to play The Specialists and ESF, both Half-Life mods. One of our friends can't launch them. They start, and go to a black screen. Can't do anything. They can launch Half-Life just fine, and they can do Sven Co-op, but not the good ol' mods.
Anyone had this before? This is all we want, fuck's sake.
You've been struck by a smooth criminal.
Natural selection 1. Damn it. It was SO inexplainably fun. The guys playing it were even more hilarious.
Half life 1 mods are out of this world dude. It's a sad story and it ends right there.
>>3502469
TS 3.0 should work just fine. Did he restart his steam and launch it through the steam page?
>>3503580
>Natural selection 1. Damn it. It was SO inexplainably fun. The guys playing it were even more hilarious.
Quoted for fucking truth. NS2 is still great and all, but it just doesn't compare to the crazy antics of NS1.
Lerk-lifts, the secret rooms, the old Super Siege maps, forming human towers in CO matches, all the crazy modded maps...it was great.
I remember a match where this drunk guy backseat commed on one of the maps that heavily favored the aliens (was it mineshaft?), and his instructions led us to completely outmaneuver and beat the aliens in about 10 minutes. There was another time where a guy was caught in the middle of hurricane Floyd and just kicked back and baked cookies while he was playing. He abruptly told us he had to leave, though, and that was the last we ever heard of him.
NS1 was bizarre and amazing, and so were the people. I miss it all.
