I want to go on an adventure. Which of these games will best provide that feel?

I've already played FFVII & IX, Xenogears, and Chrono Cross

>mfw I've played all of those.

BOF3 is the closest one to a "pure adventure." The other ones either have more emphasis on creating a home base that you constantly return to. There's hardly any backtracking in BOF3 so it feels more like a legit adventure than those other three.
>>
I agree, based on what you posted (games I also loved) I think you'll like BOF3 the best.

every year that goes by we have more and more. the majority of post 2008 sequels are probably worse than the transition from trigger to cross

since this is vr I'd say zelda ii or castlevania ii are pretty quintessential.

the entire wii catalogue, including smash brawl displays the same pattern

Is there any point in owning a Saturn if you don't like fighting games or shmups?
98 posts and 12 images submitted.

It's funny how browsing the library of the Saturn and seeing how it's not even close to all fighting games and shmups is for some reason impossible for people in 2016.
>>
>>3518432
I'm not asking whether non-fighters and non-shmups exist, but whether it's worth owning the console for any of them. Most of the ones that stood out to me when I looked through them seem to have gotten ports to other consoles.

Reminder that you can agree with the idea of "creative" localizations without praising Woolsey's shit..
>>
>>3518020
Why do you consider his work "shit"? My experience from having played several of the games he translated in both languages is that he did a fucking superb job as far as his skills as a translator go, and that any notable shit (like SoM) were the fault of other circumstantial issues beyond the scope of his abilities as a translator.
>>
>>3518020

What, like Working Designs' literal meme translations? Woolsey struck the best balance between creativity and accuracy of the era. The 'retranslations' of his work out there are ridiculous exercises in autism completely stripped of any charm or soul. Some people just don't get it.

Is Neo-Geo Pocket Colour retro? It's a sixth gen system but the sticky doesn't specifically exempt it, like with the DC.

Why do people love this game and consider it to be one of the greatest on PS1?
I tried it a couple of days and I don't get it. The combat is tedious and the environment feels so empty and dull even for a PS1 game.
How did it hook you up?
60 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>3511815
Nobody considers that. It just had good voice acting.
>>
You're absolutely right, it's combat gets stale fast (though the initial novelty of "hey these are vampires, you have to impale, burn, or drown them" was pretty cool at first). It's more about the story, the dialogue, the voice acting, and feeling of exploration throughout. The world and it's denizens are interesting, and backed by amazing voice talent and writing. If you want gameplay, Soul Reaver is probably the worst game out of the entire Legacy of Kain series, but it's a great entry point story wise.
>>
I have it on Dreamcast. Dropped it after an hour, but I'm going to give it another chance one day.

If you're good at the game, not terribly. Most of the difficulty differences stem from the Japanese release's more varied damage outputs from enemies. In the Western release everything hits with equal brutality.

There are some other differences, though. Dracula's last form in the Western release is notably better since his lasers are a bit more dangerous. There may be some other big things I'm not remembering, but I think that's the gist. Either version is great.

International version has quite a few reworked sprites most of which look better and it has a "second quest" but no titties.

My only gaming regret is that I wasn't around to experience Outrun in the arcades (I was like 2 years old in 86 and my parents hated video games)

But the Genesis port is great all the same
