what do you consider to be the most comfy games?
Legend of the River King.
Glider PRO with custom maps; it's fun looking through maps made by kids 20 years ago. Some are dedicated to TV shows like Xena and South Park.

Space Invaders
Are there any games that did the light world/dark world mechanic before A Link to the Past?
Simon's Quest
Monster Party, but only in the first level, sadly. I wish it happened in all the other levels, too.

But that's just a day/night cycle. It didn't change the map at all.
ITT: Stuff that got past the censors
Harvest Moon 1 is one of the few SNES games that allowed religion. It censored the alcohol (instead they drink "juice") however it's still very unambiguous that the characters get wasted and that there is a bar in town.
Taboo on NES has titties with nipples.
harvest moon wasnt released during 1920s OP, its not very edgy
>While walking through the corridor to the princess after beating the last boss of the game, the Red Dragon, press and hold A + B + Select + Start + Up + Left on Controller 1. The princess, surprisingly, meets you topless.
How come this hasn't been modded to be good?

So where is it?
>Go on Ebay
>SMB/Duck Hunt carts are selling for 5-10 bucks with only a few going below that
Is this real life?
>>3505671
What should they be selling for?
>>3505674
What should the most common game of all time be going for? As low as possible, like the last 20 years.
>$5? 5 fucking dollars?!!!?! NO THAT'S SO EXPENSIVE HOLY SHIT $5 IS A FORTUNE TO ME FUCKING RESELLERS REEEEEEEE
Is it a game so bad it's fun?
Too ambitious for its own sake
Random generation is what killed the game.

yes.
Thoughts on "The Lost Levels"? Is it a worthy successor to the original Super Mario Bros., or is it a poorly designed add-on? Maybe something else?

>No change to the story, barely any change to the graphics or mechanics or gameplay
It's just a difficulty mod.
Lives in the same place as New Super Luigi U.
Unlike the SMAS version, the original Famicom Disk System version actually has different graphic assets (look at the floor, the clouds, etc), but the rest of the sprites are mostly the same. It includes a few new things like the wind mechanic and Luigi has his own controls (he jumps floatier, similar to SMB2USA).
The levels themselves were made by a different team than those from SMB1, they game is definitely meant to be played by experienced SMB1 players. Basically it's a game made for those who crave more challenge after SMB1.
It's basically a difficulty romhack. Miyamoto was more involved with Doki Doki Panic than this.
>People tell me how great old school 80's RPGs are
>Decide to check them out
>They're all incredibly linear with single solutions
>There's really no difference between your characters: They either fight with melee weapons or with projectiles like fireballs or missles
Can we stop the "old RPGs are good" meme now?
>be OP
>listen to rump bumping
>bear folds over
>"exodus is great you should check it out"

It's time to stop posting.
The conclusion that I came to is that old RPGs aren't particularly good as a matter of gameplay. They were a great value as a matter of price to time it took to play through the game. I mean you take your standard platformer from 3rd gen, and it lasts an hour or two, or until it got so difficult you ate up your continues/lives and you had to start over. RPGs lasted potentially tens of hours, because death didn't mean starting the whole game over, and the game was designed around exploring the towns and environment looking for a way forward.
When other games ended up providing as much content, RPGs become noticeably less fun. It was about 5th gen that it became grossly noticeable that an action-adventure game with exploration and story elements blew RPGs out of the water.

Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread: I Started One Anyway Edition
Didn't feel right starting a thread for my question, so might as well make it a general QTDDTOT:
Almost every NES bundle on Ebay comes with Super Mario/Duck Hunt, and sometimes Super Mario 2 & 3 as well, and they often look almost new. Are these likely reproductions?
No. Those games sold millions of copies, they're extremely common and it isn't odd that they're in good condition and are clean. Even if they are reproductions you can get a refund if you report it to ebay.
What's the difference between original and v1.1+ roms? Are they just patched versions of the games that made it into a later batch?
>>3505567
Revised releases. Usually when the game was released in a different region they fixed bugs and glitches and censored some things.
Compared to the originals, which of the Sega Ages remakes were actually better than their originals or are at least worth a look at? Used to hear about this series of remakes a lot back in the days but was in the phase of where I only wanted to play new stuff so didn't have any interest in them until now.

Help boost interest in a new arcade board being created, /vr/!
So /vr/ would be even more dead? No thanks.
For what purpose? There's an actual reason for /v2k/, arcade games are just fine existing here.
I'm not against it but it would be really necessary? Arcade games have good discussions here with minimum shitposting (probably because it's not a matter of which console did you grew up).
Anyone know of an alternative to these that aren't as expensive?

These were cheaper on Aliexpress but they took them down. You could get them for like $60. If you can navigate TaoBao (it's all Chinese) you can them cheap there too.

Am I missing something? The few minutes of it I saw on YouTube looked like garbage. Why was Sonic running on the ceiling? Why were there explosions? Why would Sonic go into his death wail pose and spin around? Why was blood added to the spikes?
>>3505278
It's basically the Ninja Gaiden of Sonic. It has a ton of trial and error along with precision platforming. If that isn't your thing, then you wouldn't like it. Personally I like making myself suffer, so I played the whole game. Not to sound like a clickbait title, but the 8th stage's level of slow precision made me sweat.
What is your opinion of this game? I like it, and find myself drawn to it. There is something welcoming about the surrealness and oddness of it.
>>3504931
>What is your opinion of this game?
I'm wild about Psycho Dream. It's artsy, ethereal and really captures that occult feeling OVAs were so good at giving off. It's not exactly the most tight game but the presentation and stage design had me enthralled.
If there were just two more stages I think it'd be perfect but I have a theory the game was rushed and had there been more time it would have matured into something really captivating. The fact that we're sitting here right now is proof they were really onto something.
>>3504931
my opinion is that i never heard of the game before and I'll think I'll try it out, thanks.
