your opinion on fireball?
>>3567734
I really don't care
I'd need to use it more to get a feel for it, but it strikes me as Contra's torch, aka the powerup that you want to avoid.
Very specific weapon with very specific uses. Oddly enough, it's the one weapon that actually seems to have some thought behind where it drops (for instance, right before the wall turret on the first stage so you can go prone and shoot it without having to be in its line of fire. Same thing on hangar).
In Super C and Operation C it's OP and not fun.
How strong is nostalgia in video games? Can it overrate a bad game form your childhood THAT much?
>>3567538
>How strong is nostalgia in video games?
Pretty strong, at least for me.
>Can it overrate a bad game form your childhood THAT much?
A bad game? No.
An average-decent game? Yes.
I don't see a problem with nostalgia bias, however. There's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying something due to your nostalgia associated with it.
I've enjoyed a lot of retro games many years after they were released, I think people who grew up with retro games may be more open to going back to retro games they never played, but people who grew up in the PS2 and Gamecube generation might not be able to appreciate the older shit simply because they can't retroactively adapt.
>>3567538
why can't nostalgia be a valid metric here? Salty youngfags?
Should I buy this.
>>3567505
Are you going to play it more than once?
If so go for it
>>3567505
If you think you'll spend more than an hour playing dress up games then go for it.
>>3567505
>marketed exclusively towards females
Sounds like it's right up your alley, OP
Let's talk about Universe and its awesome packaging as well as space games in general. What are your favorite space games? What do you like about them?
I've been quite enjoying the solitary tranquility of a certain procedurally generated space exploration game but since it's decidedly not retro I'll post this panoramic screencap of Noctis instead.
>>3567508Technologyretard
Great thread huh? Maybe Noctis is too obscure? Here's an 80s smash hit in the direction I was attempting to aim this thread.
I like it for the same reason I like the other two games I've referred to.
Itt: you rec a game and person above you has to play it. Keep it retro.
I'll start. It won't go to anyone but it's a great game nonetheless.
>>3567405
Already played it so I'm counting it as my "have to play" requirement.
Next up: Rollergames
>>3567409
I challenge you to try the Adamm's Family game for SNES.
I want to play an RPG next and I've narrowed my choices down to Breath of Fire 2 or Phantasy Star 2. Which one is the better game?
>>3567186
Neither is good, but Phantasy Star II is better.
For the time (late 80s) Phantasy Star II was one of the best JRPGs. The dungeons are pretty cool but the combat is shallow and repetitive and the game feels like a slog to play through.
>>3567186
Skip both and play Grandia.
>>3567186
Skip the bullshit and play Breath of Fire 4, the best of the series.
Mega Man X for SNES by a long shot. This "Cast Roll" is the most beautiful ending to a video game ever. That feel when the guitar changes riffs and X starts to run the freeway. I get tears in my eyes every time.

sounds like shit 2bh, even for Capcom standards
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1SxLRzMZ2M
>>3566917
Not at all. That "Cast Roll" on Mega Man X has the best guitar riffs ever. The hooks on that specific song is so beautiful, it's like it's ringing so beautifully because it doesn't want the game to end. But it does.
Chrono Trigger. Whenever I think of retro vidya music, it's Chrono Trigger or FF6.
Which is better, Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask? Why?
Both are worth playing.
Play OOT first, then MM. Great experience.
>>3566745
Majora's Mask always felt like an expansion to me, probably because of all the reused assets and the fact it only has four dungeons.
Depends on what you're into.
Majora's Mask has more to do in the overworld, side quests are so fleshed out, and some of them are genuinely fun to do.. The characters are also a lot more interesting. But there's only four true dungeons, and in my opinion, they are too long and tedious.
Ocarina of Time has great dungeons, but the story is kind of generic unless you dig at the lore with the mask of truth and NPC word of mouth and just draw your own conclusions. The side quests are also few in number and most are just fetch quests and collectathons.
I think Ocarina of Time is great for casual comfy play and speed running, while Majora is something you get into for the long haul.
Is there any retro videogame centered on the history of Buddhism or Hinduism? If so, which one do you recommend me?
Please help me. I come from /his/ and I have no idea about what's going on in this board.
SkyBlazer is based on hinduism
>>3566165
OP here.
That one looks to me like some kind of Hindu crossover of Wrath of the Gods and Castlevania (?). Actually it is on the same line as what I'm looking for. So thanks, anon :)
Any other videogame that you all suggest will be rewarded with positive karma for your afterlife bros.
im interested in this.
What's your opinion on MechCommander?
Never heard of it.
And I played all Warcrafts and most of the C&C games.
>>3566134
It's an RTT spinoff of MechWarrior and if not the first, then one of the first five PC games I've ever played.
>>3566127
I loved both entries. At the time it was a great breath of fresh air from the flooded market of base building RTS games. Now I miss those days.
XXXL edition
This is the thread in which we discuss comfy portable game systems.
Discuss old handheld systems be they from Nintendo, Sega, Atari or any obscure off brand, as well as LCD games. Portable consoles like the Turbo Express, Nomad can be discussed as hardware, though game discussion belongs in their respective consoles' threads. Discussing clones are also welcome so long as the other criteria are met.
Discussion of handheld repairs, mods and aftermarket add-ons are also welcome, though for more in-depth repair advice the repair general is recommended.
Handheld emulator boxes (Dingoo, JXD S7800B, modded PSP) are a gray area and should be discussed only in regards to their use for the emulation of retro games.
This edition's game recommendation:

Gameboy XL? Looks only slightly larger than the Atari Lynx.
>>3565931
The Lynx wasn't that hard to move around as long as your cutoff denim vest had extra deep inner pockets.

BenHell

Played it a lot when i was younger.
Made me violently xenophobic towards Polacks and Brazilians.
>>3565741
>Made me violently xenophobic towards Polacks and Brazilians.
I know what you mean. Being a Pole and living in Poland made me xenophobic towards Poles too. But somehow that game attracted a "special" audience.
By that I mean I've never met a Pole who played Tibia and wasn't a complete dickhead. This game was like a magnet for the most worthless people you knew. School dropouts, brainlets who were just a few IQ points above being classified as mentally retarded... you name it. I can't recall a single person I knew who played it and whose life didn't turn out horribly.
>>3565761
That sounds horrible.
The guy I work for is in Thailand on vacation. He knows I am into gaming. He is willing to pick me up a game of my choice if he can find it.

Also, I need be able to explain to him what im looking for in one text, bonus points for what I should say. (The simpler the better the better, he is pretty good with english but still)
