Thinking about getting one of these bad boys. Anything I should know before I pull the trigger? Any essential games that I will actually be able to play because I can't read moon runes? Only games I have in mind right now are Godzilla Kaijuu Daikessen, and Kirbys Dreamland 3.

magical pop'n
Why are you getting one? You can just modify your own console to play those games. If you're a yank it's even easier, just cut the tabs in the cartridge slot.
Magical Pop'n
Do-Re-MI
Macross Scrambled Valkyrie
Super Back to the Future Part 2
Tekkaman Blade
Undercover Cops
The Rushing Beat series (all of them were released here, but as heavily altered / botched localizations.)
The SD Sokkusen: Great Battle series (especially IV and V)
Rockman and Forte / Mega Man and Bass

It wasnt that buggy and it was way ahead of its time.

Derek Smart's Desktop Commander
>>3562198
There was once a genius known as Derek Smart who was sabotaged by Chris Roberts. Derek Smart built the best space ship game ever but Chris Robert ruined it, but Derek Smart will have his revenge in the forums.
Are there any good N64 emulators that don't have frame rate issues or crash when I try to launch a game?
>>3562102
Your best option is that plugin that everyone gets butthurt about plus the emulator of your choice
>>3562102
come back in 10 years, more or less
>frame rate issues
Glide64 seems to eliminate the majority of these.
>or crash
Oh boy, not a chance. Crashing is practically inevitable with Project64, all you can really do is save often and cross your fingers as it's coded like shit on-top of shit. Maybe in six years when Retroarch has a decent N64 core we'll have something stable.
God damn I love this game. One of the main drawbacks is the god awful music.
Do you anons have sound tracks you like to listen to? I generally play MOO2 OST in the background when I play MoM, but it might be worth me trying out some others.

I actually like the music, are you using a shitty soundfont or somethin?

Flash cart. An entire system's library in one cartridge.

I thought the whole getting too old to beat your childhood games was a meme started by oldfags that became too used to the modern industry. Turns out I was wrong.
>>3561914
I have never once heard of this "meme."
It is a meme, you simply don't sink enough time in a single game to fully master it. Nowadays we have too many options and it's easy as fuck to change what are you playing, so we never get that sense of accomplishment like we did in the past and could beat one or two games we rented per weekend
It's hard for me to tell, because when I was a kid I didn't enjoy gitting gud. I just wanted to tour the game world and see the ending, with cheat codes or Game Genie if necessary.
Now that I'm an adult I enjoy the learning process, practicing for hours and hours until I get better, so the end result is I beat things I would never have beaten without cheats when I was younger.

That's more like baffling movie concepts. Almost all the crazy crap in that game was in the Moonwalker movie.
ITT: Retro games you could never get into
Pic related, I've never enjoyed any of the Mario games.
>>3561773
I only enjoyed SMB1 and SMW. Didn't care much for 2 or 3.
>I've never enjoyed any of the Mario games
How the hell did that happen?
This thread is for racing games played from an overhead perspective. Single-screen, scrolling, and isometric games are all welcome.
Badlands is a fun combat racing game from Atari. It was released as a conversion kit for the more well-known Super Sprint, and it shares some of the sound effects, as well as the upgrade wrenches. The tracks are much more detailed, there are new track layouts, and you can arm yourself with guns, missiles and shields. You even get free upgrade wrenches for first place and beating the lap record.
I play this a lot onan emulator on my phone. The music is pretty cool and there are some nice graphical details. Your final ranking depends on the time it takes you to complete a lap since the game doesn't track your position relative to the other racers, who are little more than random obstacles like the drivers in Outrun. In fact the Dakar Paris - The Cape mode is basically top-down Outrun minus the alternate routes.

There was that one arcade game where you had a wheel but stood standing, and it also had a SNES port. Offroad racing with trucks with big wheels, simple but very fun.

Any retro games with a similar concept to Live A Live?
Talk about that and Live A Live, I guess
SaGa Frontier maybe? They all take place in the same timeline though.
>Live La Live
Individually, the story of each character was good, but once the overarching plot was revealed, the game felt like a run-of-the-mill JRPG.
>>3561453
Just noticed that it looks like each character was designed by different artists?
So what's the deal with this game?
They released it before it was done. If you play the GBC version, you can see where they were going with it.
That said, the combat is repetitive, the dialogue pretty meh, the scenario cookie cutter, and the level curve... well, you'd actually do better to go through most of the game totally ignoring the free level ups, then going back and collecting them all if you're going for max magic mastery. Not that you need it. Water and Rock and Stick will beat the entire game.

this is completely wrong the spirits you find have absolutely no effect on experience scaling for natural level ups
I don't know. One of my friends loves it but complains about bread. Never played it myself.
