I'd need to use it more to get a feel for it, but it strikes me as Contra's torch, aka the powerup that you want to avoid.

Very specific weapon with very specific uses. Oddly enough, it's the one weapon that actually seems to have some thought behind where it drops (for instance, right before the wall turret on the first stage so you can go prone and shoot it without having to be in its line of fire. Same thing on hangar).

In Super C and Operation C it's OP and not fun.

In contra 3 it was actually rather awesome. Darting around between different directions felt especially great.

I thought the laser was worse than the flamethrower (until I figured out how to fire it properly). Flamethrower lets you stay prone and destroy things as if you were standing. It also does more damage than the peashooter. What's wrong with it?

It's decent since it has a wide range, but not something I'd go out of my way to get unless I had the default weapon.
