At the time I played it I thought seriously/literally/for real it was the worst game I ever played. I wouldn't mind giving it another try now though. I might think differently. I was younger then used to simple first person shooters and adventure games.

Why do retro mecha games have such stupid designs?

Take a look at the picture. The robot (circled in red) comes out of that weird ship (circled in yellow).

The problem is that.. 4 more robots come out of that tiny little ship.

How is that supposed to make any sense?

How can 5 robots fit inside such a small ship?

how do you know how wide the ship is?

Are you the guy who complained about some spaceship in some shmup recently?

Play Cybernator. It has more or less correct proportions of mechs to people and ships
>>
>>3559672
How do YOU know? It's the designer's fault for making things ambiguous. A side-perspective game should be made with the perspective in mind.

You should see MDK2.

The fucking game has literally like 40 control scheme options.
>>
>>3559660
Remapping controls in MDK to WASD/anything you like is not a big deal, it is other things that bug me. Sure, it has good graphics and distinctive art style, the gameplay is fun, but people seem to treat it like best game ever and i cannot say why.

Although, I have to admit, I have a general gripe against RPGs.
I also don't like Final Fantasy, for example. I gave it a chance with FFVII and couldn't finish it.
I really dislike turn based combat, I guess.

Zalmo has an invisible status ailment which is treated in-game as the "Boss" flag, every boss has this. This grants immunity to knockback.

Your memories of knocking Zalmo off the roof are false memories implanted by the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo!

I did that on my own. I also lured a couple dudes into some room in the tanker/diving area or whatever it was called and locked them in without killing them. And I immediately figured out that not shooting the monks makes them kickass allies.

Alright /vr/, which retro console has the best and widest selection of arcade games and pinball? A new arcade just opened near me with 40+ cabs and 30+ pinball tables and it's absolutely incredible. I want to start buying some games to play at home and to practice for the tourneys they're starting up. I know I could emulate, but I have the money so fuck it. Let me know what you think /vr/.

OP, I think what you want is Pinball Arcade off Steam, the closest digital reproductions of actual pinball machines possible.
>>
What you want is MAME. You'll learn bad habits playing retro console ports of most arcade games then trying to go straight to arcade versions.

Had a smooth sailing on the first 3 dungeons, then I got stuck, I think it was on the one that's on an island in the middle of the water, didn't know how to get there. I should get back to it.
>>
I didn't, but I remember my cousin got stuck on the "Hungry Goriya" until I interjected that he might want food.
>>
Yes I did. I didn't have internet at the time, and since I was playing it for the first time through Animal Crossing, it's not like I could just go out and buy a walkthrough.

It took me maybe a week, give or take some days. I didn't find all the heart pieces, and im sure my death count was in the 400s,

It's not too difficult if you recognize that there is an item in every dungeon, and you think about what the old men/women tell you, there's hints for the more obscure dungeons all around the game.

The only thing that I spent forever on was Ganon's lair, because fuck that place is huge and confusing, I didn't have the hang of fighting darknuts back then and I still don't have the hang of fighting blue wizzrobes. Also I didn't find the magic key.

I don't really see a Halloween specific thread up.
What are you guys playing for October? Pic related for me.
I'm loving it, but my only gripes are the camera and its controls AND I collected a Chalice in The Sleeping Village, but it doesn't have a check mark next to the Chalice Icon on the map, so it's as if I didn't collect one. Could this be a bug? I AM playing on a PS2.

ive tried to play that just 2 weeks ago on my ps3, it was the very firat time in my life that ive experienced motion sickness, controls and camera are fucking absolute garbage its unplayable.
>>
Just started playing this myself. Played the demo a ton when it was new and I had a copy of the fame for a while but never put too much time into it.

I'm loving it so far, but haven't had a chance to progress too much. I'm aiming to get every chalice as well. I've had no issue with the camera to be honest.

Wondering to buy a 3ds,saw pic related a day ago.How do I make this setup?Do I just install emulatore or needs some special launcher? Also,is the 3ds a good emulation platform?
19 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
3ds emulation is good, but it doesn't do anything past 16 bit. you can inject roms into the existing virtual console emulators, which covers nes, snes, gb/c, game gear, gba, and tg16. there's also homebrew emulators of the above, as well as genesis and more. plus you can pirate the awesome 3d ports from nintendo and sega.
to get it all up and running you need to hack the console to run custom firmware, check out the homebrew general on /vg/. if your firmware is recent then you're fucked.
>>
>>3558384
The updated 3DS is quite good for emulation (new 3DS) and the regular one is okay.

This is probably the best place to get started for 3d shacking (sorry for reddit) https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/56ymak/3dshacking_qa_general_a_sticky_situation_edition/

>>3558474
Is right. PSX is close to playable but isn't there yet and I don't think it will get there. Otherwise, SNES, Gen, GBA, and most things prior run great. It can also do Neo Geo which is nice. I just use Retroarch but you can also inject roms into Nintendo's emulators. I don't like this because many games have the same slowdowns that they do on consoles which you can avoid on RetroArch.

If you already have the regular 3DS (and your firmware permits) there's a new SNES emulator that looks promising for it. It also can't really handle GBA via retroarch, but you can use injections into GBA virtual console games the colors are kinda off but someone figured out how to adjust them.
>>
It's not that great, to be honest.
But it may be a nice bonus if you're already hacking one.

will demand for 4rd 4th and 5th gen games ever dry up?
what happens when all the crts and pvms break or get thrown in the garbage

I've thought about this a lot lately. I believe honestly everything will move to emulation as it's showing more and more everyday that this is already true. And shit like the NES mini will be popping up once every couple years or so from the companies that are still around.
>>
I think a niche solution for CRT visuals will emerge in fairly short order.

I don't know where it will come from, certainly the manufacturing and engineering costs are well beyond the current retro gaming cottage industries can't support an undertaking on a "make new CRTs for Nintendo's" in the same way we cooked up stuff like the Everdrive - but there have to be some other interests at play, since we had like 60 years of technology based entirely around cathode tube displays.

Maybe some people in the video or film industries will have some reason to create a small market for PVM-like machines?

I also think that there has to be a better ultimate solution than just using an old tube TV to render the image accurately. Framemesiters and converter rigs are a shitty stopgap to make one data protocol work on a different one ("analog" to HDMI) - what if flatscreens came with a "legacy mode" solution? I don't know how that would work, but it seems not out of the range of possibility. I work in the music industry, and the resurgence of vinyl has now given way to an enormous uptick in consumer interest in fucking cassette tapes.

Collecting retro is never going to go away, even if the bottom falls out and we completely lose every cathode tube ever manufactured. I think the 8 and 16 bit era of video games will eventually become analogous to golden age comic collecting - I could easily see geeks of 2080 lusting after mint NES games like current comic fans desire truly vintage Superman comics.

I don't think the same will ever be said of 360 and PS3 games. It has to do with a "time and place" cultural perception, the type of nostalgia that supercedes any genuine interest in playing the games themselves. Nobody wants to read old Batman comics - but for whatever reason, they sure as shit want to own them.
>>
>>3558314
I don't see that demand will ever "dry up". You have a whole generation of tweens who are being introduced to this. You can bet they'll be buying the shit they can't afford now in 20 years when they have disposable income.

When the last CRT breaks we'll just use replicator credits to make a new one. I know it's a popular /vr/ maymay that no one makes CRTs any more but that's just silly kid talk. CRTs are still being made. Even if the last one rolled off the line today there would still be CRTs around 50 years from now. In reality CRTs will continue to be made until there isn't enough demand to keep the factory open, so for the foreseeable future.
