New to shmups 30-40 coins per playtrough kind of new.
What is your opinion on them?
Priorities on the battlefield, movement theory, strategies and skills that needs to be honed to succeed in shmups generally.
Which is better for 1cc autism or asperger?
Is savantims merely a preference in competitive gaming?
Which ones are good for people who werent genetically blessed with 0.01ms reaction time, panoramic vision and movement coordination that allow them to pluck their own eyelash and write their name on the back of the flea running on the back of the hamster running inside a wheel.
preferable the ones that can be run on MAME without PC that contributes to climate change when idling
Are NES, SNES, Genesis shmups worth trying or its all arcade.
Are self imposed limitations like 1coin completion is the proper way to play them?Just dont start a shitstorm like in the last thread, you think its a waste of time, thats ok, everyone get it, no need to write multiple posts about it and proclaim yourself a master troll when the thread is falling apart
This and anything else that will help a noob get better at them.

other stages also have shit like green tanks in trees and blue enemies in water.
on top of the that your shot when maxed out makes things really hard to see.

I don't know if this is supposed to be a popular game but I had Stahlfeder for PS1, it seemed like a B tier shmup but you had a small palette of bullet color choices in the options. What other games do this? Why is it that a shitty low budget game has this over bigger games?

>Are NES, SNES, Genesis shmups worth trying or its all arcade.
As I said in the last thread, it's highly recomended to play on consoles(ports or not) for noobs, as those force the beginners to git gud, but are not nearly as hard as the arcade 1cc. Start with Compile games such as MUSHA, also try indies from Astro Port such as Vulkaiser, they are not /vr/, but feel old school yet noob friendly, as they are pretty easy on medium difficulty.
>Are self imposed limitations like 1coin completion is the proper way to play them?
This is the only way desu senpai. Some even think that it only counts on default difficulty or higher. But I like to adjust dip switches to my liking, it's still better than continuing or using autofire(in games that don't support it) outside of practice.
1cc is more of a grey area with consoles though, I go for 1cc on default settings in all console shmups(so far), but not in run 'n guns and other genres.
If you still wish to play arcades, start with the ones at the bottom of this list.
RIP in peace Mr. Gunpei Yokoi.

Anyone have any experience with 8bitdo controllers? Thinking about buying one because my original SNES and NES gamepads are pretty worn down.
My only real question is how do the buttons feel? Because most of these third-party imitation controllers that I've tried were absolute dogshit.
They feel relatively good actually. I personally dont like the shape, and never liked the shape of the original nes controller due to hand cramps. As compared to chink controllers, its a whole different level and you will be happy with it if you dont mind its shape.
>My only real question is how do the buttons feel?
like on my dsi or vita. which is pretty fucking good.
>Because most of these third-party imitation controllers that I've tried were absolute dogshit.
same here, that's why i went for 8bitdo, no one complains about their build quality on the internet, it's usually the shape(like it's not nintendo's fault) or some shit.
Is there any point of getting the FC30 rather then the pro?
Ever had a SNES cartridge randomly erase its save files? What would cause that, and is it fixable? It's happening to my DKC2 game that I bought second hand
It's a problem with the battery, obviously. Remove the battery and re-solder a new one.
Battery dead, the sad fate of very cartage game that used RAM memory. But this usually means you can't make new saves, your old saves should still be there. It's very straight forward to replace it, they use those little coin batteries and all you need to get is a Nintendo security screw driver. Open it up, prize the old battery out and put the new one in and you can just tape it up with some electrical tape no real need to re-solder. Then test it by making a save right at the start of the game, take the cart out and give it a rough shake then pop it back in and see if the save is still there, if it's missing then the contacts on the battery aren't secure and you need to re-position
>>3572125
Don't use tape, OP. Soldering isn't hard. The tape method is inconsistent and unstable.
Is there any gaming moment more orgasmic than the Solitaire cards ecstatically leaping out of their stacks after a victory? Absolutely nothing on this Earth can compare.
Bump, as this is important.

Why do people keep saying 2 is the best when 1 was clearly the better game?
Because funny references.
2 has a lot more content, to be fair. I recently replayed 1 and I'd exhausted it in a couple of days.
>>3571913
Because it's a more complex game, Chris Avellone worked on it and it shows a better action & consequence and elaborated quests. New Reno alone it's like a base design of Black Isle/Troika/Obsidian way to understand RPG's.
Both are pretty good though.
Why do people say that only the Genesis / Mega Drive's CPU was more powerful than the SNES, when in fact, everything in the Genesis / Mega Drive was more powerful than the SNES.
Everything.
>people
It's just a few autistic old guys who can't get over the fact that the console wars is long over and that you, actually, can enjoy both consoles.
Specs on papers mean shit if you don't get good devs. Luckily both systems got good devs working on them.
Cuz snes has 256 colors
>>3571819
Yeah, on paper, maybe. Too bad this didn't result in prettier or more impressive games.

Is Yoshi Valley the best track in Mario Kart 64?
>>3571737
Whenever I played MK64 with my friends they wouldn't let us race on this course. Buncha fucking lightweights.
I like the raceway ones the best (Luigi, Mario Royal raceways). They're the best ones for drifting madness, but Yoshi's Valley is fun as it can be frustrating. It's the most complex one.
I also love Koopa Beach (dat shortcut), Kalimari Desert (dat tunnel shortcut), Toad's Turnpike (ultimate comfy).
Eh. It's okay but pretty bland, in appearance and content. The fork-in-the-road gimmick is basic and the other stuff is easy to avoid. The only shortcuts are totally broken and there's not a lot of space for drifting.
I can't stop playing Pac-Man and it has never really appealed to me until now.
I think I have Pac-Man fever.
Anyway talk Pac-Man.

>>3571306
I have Pac-Man fever and I don't want no cure
Pac-Man is one of the best video games in my opinion.
So, I'm under the impression 1 is so so, but 2,3,4 are awesome. That fair?
>>3571279
Each new Wario Land game is better than the last.
>>3571279
The general consensus here seems to be:
1 is great
VB is underrated
2 is underwhelming
3 is the best
4 is also the best?
This is what I've noticed anyway, my opinion would be completely different. I hate 3 but like the rest.
>>3571279
I love 3 and a bit less so 4. Also love SML3:WL.
But WL2 I just can't finish. Just tried it after a long break—it's just too tedious. Levels are too long, there are hidden breakable walls too which is often annoying.
WL3 feels like 2, except a million times more polished and improved.
So I don't have enough to get a NES, SNES and Genesis separately. I know clones are a meme, but is pic related good? I recall the Retro Duo being surprisingly competent even if it had a handful of incompatibilities
>>3571078
You might as well emulate on the PC
Don't have enough? Buy one of the 3 consoles first, then another one in a month or when you have the money, like the rest of the mortals.
>>3571078
Don't buy those things
They suck and have horrible input lag
Buy original even if it takes longer you will thank yourself.
How many fucking times must we say it to you idiots? DON'T BUY EMULATOR CLONE SHITS, either go emulate or buy the real consoles
Just got pic related. Completed Knight on beginner. Had fun. Any tips and tricks?
Also F Zero general
Get F-Zero VS if you want multiplayer.
>>3570714
>Completed Knight on beginner
You beat the easiest league on a difficulty level meant for children. Try getting used to the controls, abuse of the triggers, learn the tracks, etc. and then go for the expert. This game is really worth mastering.
There's also BS F-Zero 2 which is basically the same game with different tracks and vehicles.

How does /vr/ feel about using a raspberry pi for emulation? Personally i think it fits the bill just right. pic related
I only have experience with RetroPie on a RasPi 2 Model B. It was decent, but I don't really like playing third generation stuff without scanlines. I tried bringing in some overlays and they were okay, but not as satisfying as filters imho, and I don't think the Pi has enough power to do those.
I think it's Gay.
>>3570575
the pi2 and pi3 can handle filters pretty well. plus retropie has gone through a lot of changes.
