Retro games adverts go!
Commercials and promo vids are fine too. Post your favorites or stuff you think is of note

This ad is offensive to dogs.
Does anyone have the PC Engine ad with the waifus?
Some hero took the Sega CD versions of Popful Mail and Lunar: Eternal Blue and reverted their difficulty back to the Japanese versions: http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,23436.0.html
I honest to god prerfer the American difficulty in Popful Mail
so WD butchered the sega CD and ps1 versions of Lunar
if anyone played the PSP port, did that get the axe?
>>3747703
The difficulty changes were meaningless in the end. It's the awful fucking translation that really needs a fix.
So /vr/ I'm thinking about getting either a Japanese Sega Saturn or a PC-Engine Duo. The question is, which one? I am quite torn because the Saturn is cheaper but the PC-Engine is cool, too.
Pic unrelated.
If the PCE isn't refurbed, it will probably need to be ("soft sound" is an indicator) and cost even more. If budget is really an issue for you obviously the Saturn offers much more fun:price.
Assuming you're just pretending to be middle class, can actually easily afford either and are just trying to ask which is "better" the library for the PCE+CD is way way bigger. PCE spans 3rd and 4th gen, Saturn is only 5th gen and even got that crowded on both ends by 32xCD and Dreamcast. Both PCE and Saturn are extremely weeb-leaning, probably equally so that doesn't really matter...
tl;dr Saturn obviously unless you strongly (~$300) prefer 80s weebery to 90s
As an emufag, I would highly recommend the Saturn. PCE/CD emulation is near-perfect, but Saturn still has some noticeable issues. A real Saturn is the better choice.

Get Duo now, even JP second hand prices for Duo and PCE systems are rising steadily. Unless it is refurbished, you are probably going to do cap replacement and laser adjustment on it.
Saturn is better, but there are more of them made, and they are still cheap and work well.
whats the best way to profit from retro games?
should I look for specific rare titles to sell at very high prices or focus more on getting large quantities of popular games? Also are they any web apps to track how prices are rising and falling?
Get out pre-reseller.
You'll make more money working at McDonald's. Or just sell drugs. Both are easier, too.

Hello Bee
How do you keep track of your collection?
>>3747153
I open the rom folder.
Outside of that, I trust my mother not to leave them in a damp place in the basement, or toss them. She knows that some dumbass will want to buy that shit in 30 years. As I keep telling her that.
Autism powers... and excel of course
I use VGCollect. I mainly went with them because I liked the ap and I could use my phone to check stuff on the fly, but now it always crashes when I look at my list if I'm not on wifi.

When and where did it go wrong? I'm talking both the games and the fandom.
This is more of a general vidya question, but I avoid /v/ like the plague and since Sonic dates back to the Genesis, I figured I'd ask the question here.
It didn't go wrong, for it was never right. Sonic has always been garbage.
Tried to play the first game
When game goes fast it is too easy, it's literally just hold right to win.
When game actually slows down and makes you do some platforming it feels like shit.
Are the other games like this?
>>3745506
Sonic 3D blast marked the end of fast platforming and the beginning of collecting and mission based game play.

Try looking at some Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, or Portishead. Akira's stuff is a bit more electronic and repeating than them, but I think that just comes with it being a videogame.
Started playing Grandia II on Dreamcast and am really enjoying it. Is the Grandia 1 on PS1 as good as this? Thinking of checking it out after completing Grandia II. I think Skies of Arcadia and Grandia II were the best RPGs that Sega had on the Dreamcast although I have a soft spot for Evolution as well. Any other favorite RPGs /vr/ can recommend on the Dreamcast?
>>3743901
Grandia II is my favorite JRPG of all time
Grandia I is fantastic but very different and MUCH more lighthearted in tone. Battles are the same system but with 2D sprites. Feena is waifu.
>>3743901
2 Was fantastic.Solid music. Solid characters. Solid combat. Beast story. I'll only drop its points for the lack of upgrade options, timewasty overworld design and the worst sin of the genre, some battles you can't win.
1 I've never played since I can't see it living up in any way to the first.
>>3743901
I've got both in my backlog since people always seem to mention them in the same breath as Skies of Arcadia as having a great feel of adventure.
I love a good JRPG, but I look forward to it even moreso when it's a relatively overlooked one that I know nothing about. Trying to finish a couple of other games before I move on to them, though.
What retro character has or had the best and the worst design evolution?
I miss red overfalls Mario from SMB1.
Also, I hate what Sakurai did to Pit. He looks like a fucking vocaloid now, he lives in a harem anime, and the game plays like shit.
RIP chubby Pikachu
Because he wasn't an easy enough target for bondage jokes.
Things in games you didn't learn till years later. Or just well hidden secrets in general.

You can get 5 free pokeballs from Prof. Oak if you fight Gary on route 22 before Brock, and haven't got any new pokemon or evolved your starter. You also have to not collect any pokeballs before then.

Feels less like an easter egg and more like something they devised for stupid kids that were still playing the game wrong by this point. Actually a pretty clever way to go about it without another straight-up tutorial.
Hi /vr/, I was wondering if any of you had experience with the JapaneSe only Wizardry titles. How are they?
I played Wizardry Gaiden: Suffering of the Queen but I never finished the first floor because those primitive dungeon crawlers are too boring for me.
The Llylgamyn Saga and New Age of Lyllgamyn (PS1) both have options for full English play (the entire original games are still on disc, and it seems as if the game layers over all of the graphical enhancements or something like that depending on your graphical/language preferences.
These are arguably the best ways to play Wizardry, at least the first 5, as they contain automapping features, improved sprites and music, and a few other tweaks while sacrificing none of the RNG fuckery of Wizardry.
Though I should say I haven't played New Age of Lyllgamyn myself, which has Wiz 4 and 5, so I am less familiar with how it operates.
>>3741583
>they contain automapping features, improved sprites and music
If you consider those an improvement. A downside is that you can't use the full keyboard. A Windows version supposedly exists but it has disappeared for a while now.
For Wizardry 5 the FM Towns offers the best quality sprites and CD audio without any compromises on controls or the like.
4 has easier versions on PCE-CD and PS1 if you want to play it without going crazy.
How come we never created our own RPG using RPG Maker?
>>3740590
Because LoZ already did a dungeon in the shape of a swastika and now we're out of ideas.
>>3740590
>Let's take a done-to-death concept and use a cookie cutter approach to make a rehash
>>3740601
Hey, we could do it our way.
How about doing right what RPG Maker games usually get wrong? How about creating a serious game and not a meme-ridden Earthbound clone?
Music to inspire the anons.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsQ8bCZMA0k
Why did this game have to have such shit writing?
The music is phenomenal and the combat system is great.
The atmosphere was amazing at first but after the second day or so it starts to fail as both Survival Horror and JRPG.
>>3740297
The game never really comes off as survival horror and i doubt it was even marketed as one.
As for writing, do you really expect square to ever have good writing? If so that is your fault.
>>3740297
It's a science fiction action RPG
I'm pretty sure it was marketed as RPG instead of survival horror
>>3741129
It's more contemporary fantasy than science fiction
