real world ramia

Well the world geography in 3 was based on the actual real world. Or is it the other way around? Does life imitate art?
>>
Was Ramia based in any legend? I mean, DQ had stuff like Orochi.
The part where you find its egg and the 2 guardian fairys or whatever reminded me of Godzilla vs Mothra.

Some games have slowdown or sprite flicker due to the demands of the game exceeding what the console is capable of, and some emulators in their quest for accuracy also suffer this. What emulators don't have this issue and allow for "overclocking"? I know the latest Dolphin doesn't have this, but what others would let you run through the most intensive parts of a game without suffering the slowdown of the original?

>Some games have slowdown or sprite flicker due to the demands of the game exceeding what the console is capable of

Lag and slowdown on 8bit/16bit consoles is usually due to poor unoptimized programming. Some games have "lag reduction patches", romhacks which optimized the code and get rid of any lag, and they run on actual systems as such.

Anyway, FCEU X for NES can overlock and get rid of the sprite limit.
>>
>>4200915

i remember master system games had sprite flickering a lot, i got so annoyed by it, i sold it in like 91, always wondered what the technical reason for flickering was
>>
>>4200985
The hardware simply cannot handle that many sprites at once. There is likely an absolute upper limit (probably some multiple of 8) that could not be exceeded even with infinite processing power, but it was simply because it could not handle that many sprites. Nothing more.

Post games you like that everyone else considers shit or mediocre.

>Mix of MGS and Resident Evil
>Comfy atmosphere, set entirely on a train speeding through the european countryside during winter
>You explore the carriages and shoot terrorists you come across, occasionally picking up puzzle pieces for later or reading notes that flesh out the plot

It got shit on because the camera and controls can be janky, but they shower you with so many health pickups and ammo it's never frustrating.

Anyone else played this?
It used to be one of my favorite Master System games, the level and boss fight variety was really good in my babby mind.

I've heard the GG version is basically the same, but stars a special-ops sort of dude instead of classic Grant
>>
Never played it but I"m in the Jurassic Park mood.

I just played the GameGear Power Rangers game and I think it's better than the SNES/Genesis versions.

Why is the JP master system game good?
>>
>>4200695
I played the GG version as a kid and the MS version as an adult and as far as I can tell that's the only difference...maybe the MS version looks a little better?

Man, that's indeed plain dumb. Never noticed this until now.
Wonder if even Nintendo forgot to check before licensing it, or forgot to set this as a rule. Then i wonder if they were pissed that they forgot to make this an official rule for license and maybe did then...

How did the NES fourscore work technically?
I mean, the Famicom had two hard-wired controlelrs, so the console was clearly not designed for more.

Is Pharoah/Caesar better than Emperor? I bought Emperor for a taste of classic city building. But I've seen the other entries mentioned much more in discussions. What's better in those games?

I think Emperor gets overlooked because it came out much later and the whole Sierra "city building" thing was played out at the time. It's a great game, but people tend to remember Caesar III/Zeus as being the defining games at the height of the craze. Out of all of them, the only one I can't go back to is Caesar III, due to the fact that it didn't have the roadblock feature which, to me, completely changed the way the later games in the series played - for the better.

Emperor is the most refined game out of the bunch.

I keep trying to put in words why there is something special and very particular about that aesthetic, but I can't seem to manage to do it. I guess can describe how it's a combination of sci-fi, medieval, and Lovecraftian elements with a sort of air/wood/earth/metal elemental feel to it, but there's more to it than that.
What is it?

Where do I get pic related?

ripped from an old model psx (mine). The old one basically is shot. It barely reads cds.

Is there a hardware specific site that would offer new 1st/3rd party drop in replacement?

I would rather pay more to know I am dealing with experts than what has happened already. Id like to get the correct part AND working....Just once please internet...

Is it not possible to rip the laser component from a PSOne and substitute it? They're far more reliable and if you have any retro game shops around you they usually go for like 25-35 bucks (around here anyway)

Just a possible convenience thing

>Is it not possible to rip the laser component from a PSOne and substitute it?
I think that it could be very possible to rip/tear but I do not know enough about the differences between models. Some places say some things, and others sites say that the 1001 models had a different setup.....They are set up totally wonky (well documented). I have 2 of these beasts sitting around here....this is the guts of #2 that took a dump. My #1 system is still chugging away, but I really want to fix this and get replacements before they become unavailable.

Somewhat looking forward to the SD card serial attachments.....As soon as they get out of beta, we can move away from this gear-grinding cd reading format.
>>
(op) yet again.

I may have to check with some audiophile forums....These things are popular enough there that I am sure one of them would also know what is what.
