The great debate

I'll go with ridge racer with this one.
>>
RR, specifically the 60fps version.
>>
I'd rather play Daytona.
>>
>>4210202
Daytone USA at the arcades, Ridge Racer at home. Hands down, no contest
>>
>>4210220
This

Daytona was amazing in arcades against multiple drivers, but for home console it's never translated very well. Ridge Racer arcade is nothing special, but the home version in 1995 on PS1 really showed what next generation games could do and was a blast to play.
>>
Daytona USA arcade or Dreamcast version with a wheel >>>>>>>> Ridge Racer >>>>>>>>>> Daytona USA Sat/PC ports
>>
>>4210229
nah, Daytona on Dreamcast with the racing wheel is legit and still fun.
>>
>>4210202
Daytona USA. It has that arcade feel.
>>
>>4210202
Daytona, no contest. Better drifting, better music, and if we're just talking about the first games of each series, that's 3 tracks vs. 1 1/2 tracks.

Daytona and it's not even close.
>>
>>4210347
So much this

Even the shitty Saturn port has more playability and depth than the technically superior PS1 original.

And I say this as a fan of Ridge Racer
>>
Daytona and this >>4210340
>>
>>4210202
Daytona. Even the rushed Saturn port plays incredibly well. Ridge Racer was all flash and nothing else.
>>
Never really cared much for Daytona, enjoyed Sega rally much more.
>>
Namco/PS1 v AM2&3 / Saturn arcade racers

Ridge Racer Type 4 > Sega Rally > Rage Racer > Daytona USA CE > Daytona USA > Ridge Racer Revolution > Ridge Racer > Daytona USA CCE >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sega Touring Cars
>>
>>4210209
Yeah, that great version with one opponent that barely qualifies as a racing game.
>>
>>4210209
>>4210509

The arcade version is 60fps too, really only plays right if you have a wheel but that's what you should be playing if you give a shit about framerate.
>>
>>4210509
>implying all the other "opponents" weren't just road blocks
Better without them desu.
>>
>>4210202
Daytona and ridge race are both bad games. Daytona had a horse and more tracks, RidgeRacer had only ONE (1) track and shitty artificial no fun controls. Controls of daytone were better than ridge racer if you ask me, the crash was not physics based but an animation. But hey at least it had crashing, RR didn't have crashes. So overall worst game: RR unless you only care about (boring) graphics
Second best (but not good): Daytona
Fantastic game: Sega Rally
>>
>>4210202

There never was a debate.
>>
>>4210452
RRT4 has baby difficulty. Ruins the game for me
>>
>>4211934
I know, Ridge Racer obvs
>>
>>4210202
Daytona, its the greatest racer of all time. No contest. Now i love the ridge racer coinop, but it doesnt even come close.
>>
>>4211919

Sega Rally doesn't get enough recognition on this board. The Saturn port was phenomenal. Duelling your own ghost car to shave 0.01 seconds off your best lap time was an incredibly intense experience. Never come across another car game that FELT so right.
>>
>>4211331
>I don't like racing in my racing game
But what >>4211319 said is right, the arcade version is the one to play. Same goes for Daytona really. Neither game got good home ports due to hardware limitations. Arcade systems in those days were propose-built just for the arcade. Nowadays they're just midrange PC hardware.
>>
>>4210202
Ridge Racer looks like a racing game but plays like a sandwich
>>
>>4210202
I've never liked the handling in Ridge Racer, Dayona is just sublime.
>>
>>4214579
i miss original hardware so much, its all second rate PC crap these days :(
