as a regular there i can tell you there is way more than just 3 games. there are 10000+ third party levels, more than you could ever play in a lifetime, and several hundred more are produced every year. furthermore the engine has been developed to a point where it is infinitely extensible and the gameplay can be modified in any which way you care to imagine. in short you simply can't run out of new stuff to talk about.

Especially on this board it's more like being able to seek out very specific friends, like I'm the only one out of the group I play and talk about games with who likes 90s shooters as much as I do.

We're also seeing the other major function of this board in action with the posts preceding yours, which is for people to post self-worship and make sure everyone knows they're a dumb piece of shit for coming here, but that the speaker is a golden exception, head and shoulders above the rest of us, and reminding us we should be in awe of his unique intellect and taste

A Ocarina of Time thread, praising it or hating it.
At this point I don't know if it's trolling or if it's kids who actually think they're making a smart conversation just because they know its name.

Also Fallout 1 vs. 2

And the typical Baldur's Gate hate thread where the pros comment just to make fun of the ones who can't get into the (stupid) DnD rules.
>>
Also, a thread about "threads we never have that WE SHOULD" would be nice.

Threads talking about Amiga or Commodore games are awfully absent here.
Some threads about them for essential games and getting into them would be nice.

When it comes to using /vr as a place to get recommendations I guess it's because they don't wanna waste their time on bad games and know on here they can find a high concentreation of retro fans here, so what /vr/ recommends will likely have been "approved by the experts" and therefore be good.

Because they get shitposted to death.
>>
>>4211437
Most of the times it's Amiga fans (maybe the same one every time) who shitpost themselves to death.
A lot of times, the OP or the first reply will hold a comment in the vein of "Amiga isn't more popular because dumb yanks" or whatever, leading to easy trollgate for shitposters.

But that always happens after the initial posts blame the lack of Amiga appreciation to burgers.
Also, Amiga shitposters (or at least one of them) is infamous for shitposting the personal computer threads with euro vs japanese computer shitposting, calling anyone who liked japanese computers like MSX or X68K a weeaboo.
>>
>>4211458
>But that always happens after the initial posts blame the lack of Amiga appreciation to burgers.
No, Americans seem to do it in all threads that have more Europeans. Whether they be about computers, RGB, or even European games. Merely discussing these things sets American off.

There's only so much you can talk about in the certain time-frame of history we are restricted to. Most topics have already been discussed in great lengths in the past and it's hard thinking of new ones since we do not have much to work with. Due to this, we'll just keep repeating the same shit forever and ever. The more I see this, the more I realize is that /vr/ is pretty pointless as a whole and so was its initial creation.

>>4211550
The answer is to change the rules to go by the age of the game not the system it was made for. 15, 18 or 20 years could all work well. Give weekly new discussion topics as games come of age.

>>
>>4211506
I think you are right. It was great to discover this place last year, i learned about great games. But now is just habit, no one wants to talk about FFII & DQVI
>>
>>4211506
Nah there's a lot to discuss, there's so many games released during the /vr/ time frame that we might not be able to discuss them all, ever.
It's just that people tend to discuss the same things over and over, especially when it comes to shitposting.
It wouldn't change if we include Xbox or PS3. And honestly, it'd only make this board worse.
>>
>>4211861
Because they get deleted on a sight so they don't make new threads anymore, their new strategy is derailing an unrelated one.
>>
>>4210585
Because 90s FPSes are the pinnacle of gaming.
>>
>>4211506
There are literally 1000s upon 1000s of games from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. There'll always be something to talk about.
>>
>>4211506
/vr/ exists because /v/ moves too fast to talk about anything niche.
>>
>>4211921
Sure they are. But doesn't it get old? I don't mean to sugguest that I dislike the Id FPS', but I couldn't talk about them or some mod/map/event everyday for years
>>
>>4211619
Nah, I love DOOM, very, very much, but the DOOM general splintering off into 4-5 different 'retro FPS' generals has been a total cancer. Not to mention that sourceports aren't retro, and 99% of what's being discussed in the DOOM general shouldn't be talked about here.
>>4211921
you're playing 90s FPSs that have been hacked to death to play like 2012 FPSs, why bother.
>>
- Loads of generals outside of /vg/

- Marketing threads of the week (currently Sonic Mania, and infrequently Samus Returns - both much worse on /v/)

- Recurring Retroarch shills (used to be Retron shills, but those seem to have departed upon reaching meme status)

- "Best Castlevania is best" threads

- "Which version of (insert Final Fantasy game here) is best?" These are typically bait like the Castlevania threads.

- Dragon Quest V and Final Fantasy V autism threads. I believe they can be traced back to a single anon. He also posts them on /v/.

- Assorted waifu threads

- Meta threads complaining about the lack of sixth-generation coverage (probably trolling)
>>
>>4212261

Oh, right. I forgot to mention Flash cart marketing threads. We definitely see those on a daily basis.

Krikzz has a shill-army on 4chan and reddit, it's madness.
>>
>>4212271

Not just 4chan and Reddit. There's a whole social media campaign going on. They even post copy-and-paste PR text in comment boxes on random blogs that mention anything related to retro gaming or emulation.
>>
>>4212285
Krikzz actually thinks we're all naive enough to believe that all the positive posts and reviews everywhere are because he makes a bunch of decent products for a niche market and provides a good service when anyone with a mind can see it's a carefully orchestrated plot by him and his minions.
>>
>>4210560

I'm not saying there's no shilling going on, but name a better snes flashcart, or n64? You sound bitter anon, take it easy
>>
>>4212392
SD2SNES; it's open source and not designed by krikzz. All Krikzz did was reverse engineer GAMEDOCTOR copiers from the 90s and make them retard-proof. I'm not saying they're bad, and I have a couple (one is a chinese clone because I'm not paying the Krikzz tax), but they're not revolutionary. Flashcarts have been around for decades, and they all do the same shit. I appreciate what he's doing, but it's so painful to deal with the shills every single time anyone wants to discuss pros/cons of various devices, it's virtually impossible.

>and 99% of what's being discussed in the DOOM general shouldn't be talked about here.
How do you feel about /rhg/?
>>
>>4212665
Generally OK, they're small and stick to their general and rom hacking typically creates a product that would (or should) run on real hardware of the period. It's totally different from creating and playing levels in a source-port that makes Doom more akin to call of duty: mw than to vanilla Doom. Also /rhg/ hasn't splintered into 4 different generals.
>>
>>4212681
>and rom hacking typically creates a product that would (or should) run on real hardware of the period

>>
>>4211309
No it's not.
>>
>>4212703
If the hacks are done well, yes they do. Shitty hacks don't but I run ROM hacks on my hardware all the time. It's still a far cry from using a sourceport to play COD with a Doom skin.
>>
>>4212681
>>4212757
i think you've played as many romhacks as you've played doom mods, barely any

there's very little difference in substance in /rhg/ and /doom/
