So, I'm going to China soon, and was wondering about my laptop having porn in it, and whether or not I have to get rid of it.

I've heard that porn is illegal there, and I don't wanna get into deep shit over some hentai.

Is it okay to bring in a computer with porn?
>>
>>1261287
Depends, really, but you should be careful.

They confiscated my laptop after I showed local police my porn stash. I advise you not to do it. Other than that, you will be fine.
Although be careful at the airport when getting out. They do actually scan your laptop when it goes through security. If there is porn on it, they will know and this can and did sometimes lead to warnings or confiscations. You usally have to explain yourself, though, so it's probably best to avoid such a hassle by deleting your content.

i had the same worries when traveling to singapore and malaysia.

i archived the porn and put a password on it. sure this is not secure, but it hides it superficially.
>>
>>1261287
>I've heard that porn is illegal there

I think porn is not actually illegal to own, just to make or sell but the letter of the law doesn't really matter in China. Anyway, unless you're watching it in public then no one gives a shit.

Chinese have all seen porn, lots of them watch it at home.
>>
>>1261291
Lmao why did you do that
>>
>>1261291
>You usally have to explain yourself
lol
Officer: explain youlself!
Me: it is not what it looks like
Officer: Please decrypt GAY_CHINESE_BALLOON_FETISH.AVI
Me: Man, just lock me up
>>

Some people will actually believe this stuff, anon, don't be cruel. You know there's some really paranoid people on 4chan who view life as just one big opportunity for humiliation and exploitation. Tell them that their HD will be scanned when they go through security, or that the x-ray machine see what kind of little girl manga they're reading, and they'll believe you.
>>
Every single Chinese dude is carrying digital porn with him everywhere he goes.

Think about it from the point of view of the Communist Party. They only have 2 priorities
1. Stay in power
2. Make as much money as possible by ripping off as many people as possible while in power.

As long as you don't interfere with either of these, they are not interested in you.

>50Gb fap folder
No probrem

>a few Chinese language banned books in your checked bag
May-beee probrem
>>
>>1261291
How exactly do they scan it?
>>
>>1261287
kek why is porn banned in China?
>>
>>1261675
Cause they're a bunch of authoritarian fags?
>>
>>1261675
Asians are fucking retarded about porn. It's banned or heavily restricted almost everywhere.
>>
>>1261291
>showed police my porn stash
Explain
>>
>>1261291
good luck scanning my encrypted hard drive
>>
>>1261727
>implying they won't make you decrypt
>>
>>1261287
If your computer is encrypted with a strong password then it shouldn't matter.
>>
>get microsd card
>load with porn
>encrypt and put it somewhere random
>if anyone asks act surprised
>>
>>1261383
They don't, this is just a meme to frighten children with. It pops up on /trv/ from time to time when nervous first time travellers wonder what happens during a airport security check.

The only time your HD will be searched is if it is part of a criminal investigation or targeting possible political activists, but in those cases you will be pulled aside and detained.

Think about it. How long would it take to scan through a laptop HD, tablet, or phone looking for porn or pirated material? Imagine doing that for everyone flying. It doesn't happen.

I...I find it really strange what people are posting ITT
has /trv/ just become a shitposting board like /int/?

I landed in HK and there was no data check at all
my understanding is that while illegal, pornography is simply not worth police's time to investigate.
it's not a serious offence, but it's actually enforced
you won't see porn for sale in many places in china

I uploaded a lot of my files to the cloud so I could access them; which is probably what I'd advise.
There also have next to no chance of finding an SD card in your luggage; while this would look a lot more like you "hid" it; you ould acess it totally freely withing china

DESU they are probably more concerned with encrypted files of unknown contents then porn they can just browse

Chinese law enforcement lacks uniformity and they can be real assholes.
It's very very rare that devices are searches, but it does happen.
apparently they rip the entire content to look at later and just give you your shit back, usually this happens in a corporate setting

it's a tricky area though, there isn't much black and white, in general many trvelers to china have trouble in the planning stage with this kind of thing

OP was probably trolling. There's a few standard troll threads that ausposters always use, one of them is "How do you deal with the anxiety of X" and this is one of the handful of others.

I've seen blackmarket porn dvds for sale, usually Japanese or Taiwanese, I opened a mega for porn but regardless, no, it's not enforced except for the retail and production and I'm not certain that possession is actually illegal though it's certainly not something they care about. Decriminalisation has actually been discussed at senior levels publicly but it's never gone anywhere.

China has some of the strictest and most meticulous airport searches i found. I always had lighters(smoker) in my backpack and wouldn't bother to hand them over through security in every country in southeast asia. Sure enough, in China, they found all 4 of my lighters in my backpack. They also found my battery pack that i was suppose to declare, but, again i didnt bother hoping that they just wouldnt notice. They did, and it wasnt a big deal because it was small one.

on China Eastern airlines, they wouldn't let me watch a movie on my smartphone. the airline staff were real dicks about that one. Especially since they said nothing to the chinaman playing a game on his laptop.

Life is one big opportunity for exploitation and humiliation.

IF YOU EVEN FUCKING TRAVEL IN THE STATES you will get what I refer to as a 'travel tax'. It's usually between $200-$1000 which amounts to an unnecessary traffic ticket. I get one a year FOR COMPLETE BULLSHIT REASONS. My insurance is insane, wtf.

>traveling on a holiday
>speed trap
>weird situation I can't find in the laws

They fuck you so hard.
>>
>>1262689
>speeding and breaking the law
>get caught
>WOW FUCK THIS SHIT WHO MADE SPEEDING A LAW!!!!!
>>
>>1262690
>5MPH over on a holiday
>going 70mph on a straight road that's a freeway
Literal retardation; we should be able to shoot retards like this in the face

If this wasn't an unnecessary tax it wouldn't account for 1/24th of your entire salary if you worked minimum wage.

This is solely to steal my money.
>>
>>1262655
>they wouldn't let me watch a movie on my smartphone. the airline staff were real dicks about that one. Especially since they said nothing to the chinaman playing a game on his laptop
Laptops are fine, phones are not. Where have you been for the last ten years? That's true almost everywhere.
>>
>>1263483
wtf are you talking about? you can watch an already downloaded on your phone in every other country. On Virgin Airlines in Australia they accommodate that with the free wifi. The point i was making is that China is a totalitarian police state.
>>
>>1261688
Except Japan, yeah it's true. Funniest thing is how so many of these places have widespread prostitution that's overlooked. *cough* Korea *cough*
>>
>>1262692
You could outsmart them by just driving the speed limit.

But yeah, in general, different countries have different laws about all sorts of things. If this triggers you, maybe travel is not for you.
>>
>>1263606
>Except Japan
No, it's ok. In Japan they pixelate the genitals so it's ok to watch it in public because morality has been preserved.

China also has widespread prostitution, everywhere you go there are little massage parlours. Not even on back streets usually.

why did MODS delete my post?
fuck you guys
