Retirement goes out the window, the generational gap produces a new class system where, the "older" generations are all retired and have been living off their pensions for 50 years or more, the poorest members of society are just ten years their junior, with no pension to fall back on and bodies that are too frail to benefit from rejuvenation treatments, they only live to be 110 or so but look much older than their upper class counterparts.
Meanwhile the younger generations have migrated to a post scarcity society, with their basic needs met by automated production, and long lives to plan for, the primary industry has become the creation of wealth through interest and long term investment. Imagine Wall Street douchbags but slowed down massively.

I suggest reading The Naked Sun and The Robots of Dawn, by Isaac Asimov, that considers such societies. Plus they're good books.

Honestly, the "standard" fantasy setting is quite often like that, there's usually some long past golden age that people are starting to rediscover artifacts from.

If you want something a bit more grounded in reality, or go sci-fi, I could recommend the Hawkmoon books by Moorcock, which seem to be several centuries or maybe even a millennium after some kind of nuclear/biological war that wracked earth.

Fall from Heaven.

An epic level evil campaign I was in had great characters, all of them were cool and worked well together. But the setting...Didn't hold up. We started off in a city with three districts (good district, neutral district, and an evil district) where neutral creatures acted as a police force. The folks on the good side continually tried spying on us and pulling all kinds of cloak and dagger stuff, knocked over a building, killed the BBGG paladin guy that had been taunting us and had a hard on for killing goblin children ( ease they are "evil" I guess). So we bounce out of there with our numerous followers, carve a new home out of the side of a mountain and kill/revive a dragon as a zombie protector of our mountain city. Which was all cool, but then we started going around to the surrounding towns...

That animation has horrible voice work, but it could work either way. Here's a quote from revelations: “After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.”

This kinda means you can get away with a little cool stuff. If the Angels just zap down and grab the saved then make it so no video can record them.

In some interpretations everyone who is raptured leaves behind everything they were wearing, so when it happens they'll be piles of clothes or videos of a Catholic school's soccer game ending with all the players and all but four of the spectators suddenly dissapearing, the ball still in air from a now-missing kicker.

That's cute, OP. But seriously, you shouldn't do that.

My best advice would be to forget about Naruto. Even If I liked that manga at it's begginings, with those gritty and tactical battles opposing mainly child soldiers in a fantasy setting, it then quickly became a cancerous and bland setting of powerlevels vs powerlevels towards the end. Your standard everyday shonen crap. Don't try to copy that, even loosly, because it's bad material.

This is actually the question you should be asking to yourself. What do (you) liked about it ? What are the elements, the concepts, that you found interesting in it ? And I'm not talking about specific characters or capabilities or wathever, but about the overall concepts that you found intriguing and/or simply fun.

Anwser that question, then use and redefine those concepts as the basis for your own universe. Remember that it doesn't necessarily has to be something about ninjas, or even an asian themed setting. But If you prefer it to be that way, that's fine as well. Just try not to let the little weeaboo inside of you taking full control of what could otherwise develop into an interesting setting.

I liked that we have 3rd generation warfare in a medieval setting. Maybe even 4th generation as ninjas easily hide themself among civilian population.

I liked the nuclear bombs equivalenet in a fantasy setting. The precarious power balance of the cold war.

I liked the aestethics (the weapons, the clothing, Kishimoto really do an amazing job when he bothers adding details to his drawings)

Even child soldiers was a nice concept tha toculd have been explroed so much further.

THe fighting style that alternates, cqc, launching stuff at enemies and teleporting around the battlefield.
