How likely is it that habitable planets in the universe have more water surface area then land like Earth?
48 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>49255212
Very likely AFAIK, since surface water serves to stabilize temperature fluctuations, which is good for habitability.
>>
>>49255257
That and water is pretty abundant in the Universe.
>>
>>49255212
Extremely likely.

Meren, who I've put money into and is my one and only.
Newzuri, who my brother bought me and is just small unblockable creatures.

An atarka red deck that has mutagenic growth and bolt. I love this deck and plan to foil it out eventually.
A temur ramp/aggro deck. Love savage knuckleblade.
A mardu dragon/control deck.
WIP-
Building a budget version of oliver tius grixis control that won't be legal in standard by the time I finish it.
I've also played and taken apart werewolf tribal, minotaur tribal, g/w heroic, r/g monstrous, abzan counters, and mardu tokens.

I don't have a lot of money but I have one Modern Casual deck; RG Innistrad Werewolves

I built it while heavily focusing on flavor, so no non-Innistrad creatures, no vampires, no spells that a werewolf wouldn't use. It turned out pretty good and I plan on doing a RB Devil's theme deck next

how do you properly pull off scenarios in tabletop RPGs where you take everything away from your players as a DM without making them feel like it's just a temporary inconvenience?

Like let's say our group of heroes gets captured by bandits and turned to slaves, caged inside a mine.

How do you eradicate the mindset of your players which causes them to instantly rebel or motivate other slaves into taking up arms and fighting their oppressors without making it feel unfair?

Does anyone here have adequate experience with this type of story-telling?

>>
If they're characters want to rebel, let them rebel.

Then crush them. Really break their spirits.

Alright, crushing might be a bit harsh of a word. Make it tantalizingly possible to win, and allow it if they do, but stack the odds against them the first time. Make the other slaves doubt them from failure. Give them rivals and enemies in their captors. Only kill npcs that helped.

When they do get put into their place, though, give them a story; a quest to do in their capacity of slaves. Carry the momentum forward. Finally, give them a chance to run, but not take down the captors. Make them flee into the night while still powerless. Give them a struggle to become powerful enough again to return and take down their slave drivers and retrieve their things. Let the overall master escape, and become a recurring villain, or person to hunt.

tl;dr: Let them rise up, put them down fairly, don't kill them, and give them another objective as slaves.

Hint that they have to wait and watch for an opportunity, until then shut down everything that they attempt.

Don't drag this on for TOO long though. It makes for a rather boring game if you have the players spending multiple sessions accomplishing nothing but being victims for some kind of despair-porn fetish realm.
>>
>>49255143
well, I had planned for every female player character and every male player character described as pretty to be brutally raped into submission if they ever attempt some shit and get caught. I have a flow-chart of the areas of their body that get raped depending on severity of transgression.

So what do you guys think of the visuals of Paragon? I've started to give it a look since I'm getting a new Laptop and I just love the casual blend of sci-fi and fantasy. I mean, you have a fucking orc who plays war drums and is charismatic as fuck and a dude with Adam Jensen Arms that can turn into fucking rocket launchers to a demonic looking Sverog to a sociopathic fairy that wants to turn people into compost.

The only good thing to come out of it is porn.

What are some cool unique and interesting things to have in space? what are some things you don't see in space games?

i was talking with a friend and we thought it would be cool to run superheroes in space, were not sure exactly how it would work but it sounds pretty fun.

What are some other things you could mix or add to make a space game more than just aliens and ships?

Also is it more or has there been a little spike in space talk lately on /tg/?

Which is a more interesting character to interact with: a character that rejects all moral and religious principles and ultimately believes that action has no meaning, or a character that rejects all doctrines because they believe they hold back humanity from becoming a perfectly free and developing agents?

Seconding this. Both doctrines sound like pointless depressing Nihilism, and neither is really that fun or interesting to interact with.

If I HAD to choose one, I'd choose the second because there's at least some string of reasoning to it... but it still sounds really close to being "chaotic-evil randumb". The only way it possibly works is if the character has something resembling morals and a sense of right and wrong (even though morals don't match up with those of society) because otherwise the character is really hard to get invested in or care about. What happens when becoming a "free and developing agent" means killing everyone who disagrees with you and becoming a dictator-like entity? See the problem here?

Got a traveller campaign brewing for some friends, a poetic Space Opera in a science-fantasy setting i've been working on for a while.

Now, I'm the kind of GM who loves to put emphasis on immersion, and music helps a whole lot when it comes to that. Thing is, I've never done sci-fi before, at least not properly, so when it comes to music my folder is pretty barren.

I've so far decided on Magma, which is probably as close to proper Space Opera one can get, and pic related soundtrack for general background and ambience.

tl;dr space music plz

Also tell me your goto music for your campaigns lads, or you plans if you have any!

Also, an example of Magma

And Homeworld, which is an amazing soundtrack i general and well worth a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fbvr0PvPGp4

It depends onw what you're going for. If you want the quiet emptiness of space, put on some ambience or space ambience. If you're trying to make it feel like an opera or epic, put on some rousing orchestras. If you want to feel like a trucker hauling ass through space or some sort of gunslinger, put on some blues and a bit of rock country.

tl;dr - Your "space music" relies on the tone you're going for.
>>
"Space" is an incredibly varied setting, but the fun thing about it is how you can cram basically anything into it.

Judging from your music choices, you're looking for something that sounds alien, but in a human way, if you get me. Use of actual instruments (or at least, the sort of sounds they make; not going to bash instrument synthesizers) instead of the sort of electronic synth you'd find in, say, a high tech space science fiction.

I'm a basic fucking bitch when it comes to music, but I've always liked the mix of music Cowboy Bebop has; the differing music for each setting helps make every place that much different.

For example, you break out the tribal mystical stuff for the wandering of the cosmos and when you drop into the cantina that orbits around the moon at just the right speed to constantly be viewing an eclipse, you find some smooth jazz.

Really it depends on how unified the culture of said space is. I find the most fun ones to be ones where there's all sorts of shit smashed into every nook and cranny, makes it feel more real. Even in boring nothing towns there's always a chinese restaurant, if that metaphor makes sense.
>>
Cowboy bebop has a good soundtrack for that (well some of the songs)
The 2001 space odessey soundtrack could be cool, all that classical and the spooookyyyyyy vocal tracks.
For space/sci-fi settings I like to play IDM and brain dance music when in large metropolises, mostly ambient music when in space and I love using Sunn O))) for " forbidden zones"

What's the best way to build a thief in 3.5?
What's the most fun you've had with character that fits the "thief" archetype?
40 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>49252524
Define "thief". Also, while we're at it, define "best". I'm not entirely sure what you want here. Do you just want to be able to steal stuff reliably?

I had one player do amazing with straight rogue with no alterations. Another took a higher magic route to the thievery goal and went arcane trickster. Yet another went straight wizard and used magic for shenanigans. In a slightly more powerful game, I saw a pair of players playing an ur priest and illithid savant, literally stealing magic from their opponents and the gods themselves. More information is necessary.
>>
>>49252687
Stealing, pickpocketing, some points in social skills as well to weasel your way out of situations.
You know, stereotypical thief stuff.
>>
>>49252524
Can't speak for 3.5e but for 5e I had a character who resorting to thievery for quick, easy cash to pay for his lifestyle of laziness and glamour. Outside of that, however, he was very lazy and had an interesting take on the flexibility of the law, doing everything from forgery to thievery, but never murder.

He was raised in a village known for skilled mercenaries and cutthroats, but due to some circumstances he was quite pacifistic, determined to injure but never kill. Using throwing daggers to disarm and disable and destroy, caltrops to slow and hamper, dust to blind, and even bear traps to immobilize, he'd weaken foes to the point of surrender or easy dispatching by the party.

tl;dr lazy pile of pacifistic shit resorts to thievery to make quick cash, gets wrapped up with an adventuring party and helps by throwing a metric fuck ton of objects

Half of Tolkien's characters would be that guy.

Technically, Golem did know the answer to the riddle. It wasn't exactly difficult to simply think of what wasn't present.
>>
>>49252510
It ain't cheating if the opponent's so dumb they think it's an actual question instead of mumbling

If anything, the blame lies on the GM for making it too easy
