What is Godbound? Is a OSR style high fantasy game using simple mechanics to reflect powerful characters that make decisions with lasting consequences. It gets compared to Exalted, but it's more like a TTRPG version of Dominions. If you don't know what that is, you should feel bad about that.

"Godbound is a game of divine heroes in a broken world, men and women who have seized the tools that have slipped from an absent God's hands. Bound by seeming chance to the Words of Creation, these new-forged titans face a world ravaged by the mad ambitions of men and the cruel legacy of human folly."

I haven't had a chance to play with them in-game, but I like the mechanics for creating them and they have a neat niche. I think in one of the previous threads someone talked about giving them to a trusted mortal servant, since Godbound tend to be plenty powerful without them, and that seems like a good way to use them in-game.

How did feudalism come about?

Was it because populations became so large that it required a centralized bureaucracy to monopolize violence and manage resources? Smaller bands and tribes usually know each other, or at least have relations that can step in and mediate conflict. Did feudalism come into being once the tribe became too large for mediation to occur?

/tg/ usually raises some pretty good points sometimes and I'm asking because I got into a conversation with someone during my DnD game about it
>>
>>49260090

To answer the question, even though it's in the wrong place.

Medieval feudalism can be most attributed to the late Roman empire, and more specifically it's taxation system.
Trade was taxed while property was not. This incentivized large, rich landowners to make their land as self-sufficient as possible so that they did not have to pay taxes to obtain the necessities.
As the late Roman Empire progressed into the fall of the (Western) Roman Empire, these self-sufficent estates continued to grow, and as order broke down, individuals fled to what order survived. These estates were order.
Eventually, they grew into the feudal states we know and love/hate.

The Human Republic has peacefully traded with both the Glorbulan Empire and the Zorblax Confederacy for generations. Unfortunately, the Glorbulans and Zorblaxians have declared war on each other due to a horribly convoluted succession crisis involving a valuable planetary system, the Emperor's maternal great-grandfather's bastard son, and a dirtbike. Neither expects humanity to join them, but they both demand it cease trade with the other faction for the duration of the war. No one is certain how long the war will last, but projections by Republic generals estimate the Glorbulans and the Zorblaxians are relatively equal in strength and willingness to conduct war.

The Glorbulans mine and refine about 70% of the galaxy's FTL fuel, so losing them as a trading partner would make interstellar commerce almost twice as expensive to conduct--and they threaten to suspend all trade with humanity if their demands aren't met. They are also humanity's largest traditional trading partner and are responsible for about 25% of all human interstellar commerce. However, deals with the Zorblaxians to conduct anti-piracy operations are the only thing that prevent fringe human colonies from being overrun by X'vavv'in raiders and sacrificed to their insane gods, and the Republic's fleet simply isn't large enough to protect all of the colonies by itself. Additionally, the Zorblaxians are still a major trading partner and responsible for about 15% of all human interstellar commerce. They threaten to cease trade and cease the anti-piracy operations to divert their fleets to the war unless their demands are met.

What should the Republic do?

I opened a game store that focuses on D&D, Warhammer and Magic. So far, things are going great, we're the only store in a really big radius, we have regular customers and the competitive Magic scene is quite big in here.

While D&D and Warhammer playgroups are easy to control, we have a pretty big problem with Magic: we have a good flow of new customers, but when they attend events and are about to become regulars, the interactions with some attendees, specially PT players and semi-pros, scares them away. And it's not a thing of the newcomers losing too much, it's that some of the pro regulars form small cliques in which they behave like divas and are generally obnoxious. For example, some of them pester young players if they misplay, or act all cocky when they face decks outside of the meta.

I've been thinking about creating newbie friendly events to avoid those problems; during the weekends we do events for kids and youngsters (Mainly pauper, they can make theie decks for free at the store) and the revenue is good enough, so maybe we can try this format.

On the other hand, some coworkers have suggested the idea of "soft bans" and punishments, but I think it may drive them away, and those players are the one that buy boxes nonstop.

Go with that. You simply run into the problem that different people desire different things from the event. It cannot be put together, call theirs 'competitive events' or something similar.
Banning people makes them angry, catering to people should make them happier.
>>
>>49259281

This is a pretty good idea actually. I would suggest having other new player events besides pauper though. And a problem I see is that if the pt guys are still around the store when it goes down they'll stay to watch, heckle, and backseat drive, if my experience is anything to go buy. Personally I'm one of those new guys that got driven out. Friend of mine introduced me to magic and I loved it. Loved everything about it and just played with friends, including the guy who got us started who as a pt type, but he didn't go all try hard with us so it was cool. Moved and decided to go to lgs for Friday night magic. Lose, a lot( I mean I'd win some, but I'd never win the tourney or the draft overall you know? )everyone gives me shit all the time and treats me like an idiot cause I didnt have a top tier deck and just ran something I had made myself. Eventually I just got sick of it.
>>
>>49260237
Seems like the safest bet to diversify options and get revenue without having to frown upon some kind of players

>>49260296
That sounds just like what happens at the store. Now imagine being a 13 year old attending his first FNM. A living hell and a death sentence to Magic as a hobby

If I was to create newcomer events, which formats would be the best? Pauper with free decks is a kid's favourite and makes Magic dads come to the store to buy and chat while the kids play, so that's a sure shot, but what else can I offer?

I'd like to hear your ideas for a dinosaur that got experimented on by skaven.

A while ago in my running Warhammer Fantasy Campaign a group of mercenaries came back from a trip to Lustria and had a small package for the zoo of Altdorf with them, a teenage Dinosaur.
Of course the beast escaped and my intended plot was, that the players get hired to catch the dinosaur alive. The players said fuck that and ran away from their problems and we did something else instead.
A couple of sessions later the party was in a small skaven lair and I heavily implied that the dinosaur was an escaped prisoner there.

Now the group has more experience and throughout their career I always hinted that the dinosaur would make a comeback, now I wanted to reintroduce him as a much more terrifying creature, augmented with Skaven technology,

Do you have any Ideas for me that I could consider? Maybe a warp flame thrower on his back? Or a rattling gun? Mechanical power claws?

I'd go with chaos spawn with dinosaur features, or skeletal remains animated with warplock tech. I don't think Skavens have enough experience with such unusual war animals to keep it in good health.

If you pick the latter, don't forget about warp lightning/warp fire thrower in it's mouth.

There is literally only one instance of jamaican-inspired trolls in all fantasy fiction and, despite being sadly one of the most famous settings around (and also shit since 200fucking4), it is hardly representative. So, I want to talk about how you get Gay in your games. Gay players, how often and how do you play your characters? Are they gay, or do you play it straight. Why?

When you go gay, do you ever make your character a self-insert image wise, have you ever based them on a crush or SO? Mix types and roles, have a big Bear thief, or a twinky Fighter, or a super camp Paladin?

Romance in character? Funny stories about people getting squicked out, touching tales true love - tested through trials and tribulation, or torn apart by betrayal, or suffered one sided in silence?

Any str8s ever play a character that loved his fellow man more than most?

Fuck off /u/boats, women can't actually love anyways and vaginas are icky and drippy. Bi guys are alright.

>>
I'll start. I actually am a bi dude, so glad I said they were cool here.

I usually don't make a thing of it when I play gay characters, the whole three times I did lol. Not terribly inventive I'm sad to say, one was a green Agri-World Guardsmen that was quiet and repressed about it because of the expectation of having a family to help with farming, further shamed by a simplistic view of Slaanesh cultists as being sodomites and sex addicts. Played him as slightly overprotective of the slender Psyker, identifying with his struggle against his own nature but equally being scared of him as an example. Flustered easily by the other Guard PC since she was an aggressive veteran that had all the little moral looseness a veteran is expected to have. Ironically, she teased him for being gay the whole time but never believed it, just thought he was a hick Virgin who was a little simple. Was also responsible for using him to bait the cultists as "he was perfect recruitment material" being shy, quiet in the way only a man big enough to stop fights by standing up can be, and with the "ability" to blush from a single entendre.

Ironically it worked, I say ironic because the cult was for philosophers and artists and they were ascetics (My GM doesn't do lewd except vaguely or implied) and they needed someone to carry things.

I didn't tell anyone OOC or IC he was gay until after the game when the FemGuard, who died halfway through and was replaced by a local arbite who saw too much, joked about it being a shame he never got to experience character growth and if I was just jealous because I wasn't getting any IRL. Flabbergasted when I said he would have preferred the Psyker if he wasn't an abomination.

I guess this was also the story of "The time I half-assed came out to my group."

Good morning /tg/, i need your help with a little something, today i woke up and felt like playing skyrim, so just made a fresh install and got my favourite mods (mostly mods that adds things to combat and some roleplay value) and just played the first dungeon, Bleak falls barrow. I always liked this dungeon, the way the game tells you about it before you have to go there, the npc's comments and bieng able to see it from a distance at the top of that mountain, i also like the dungeon itself. So after playing it again i felt like making my own dungeon
>(and that's why i came here instead on /v/ you guys know much more about dungeons).

I wanted to make something like this (from the outside) a small abandoned village at the base of the mountain and a cave leading to a passage to the top where the tower is.

The tower itself could be divided on 2 sections, the part that can be seen (low on combat but with a lot of storytelling) and and huge underground area (more focused on exploration) with an underground lake where the boss dwells

anyway, this is what i need your help with:
>do you know any good locations for this on skyrim?
i want it to be easy to see the tower from the distance, to place it somewhere the player might find it without needing a mapmarker
>do you have any advices about dungeon design? i have made some modding for skyrim on the past, but never made a dungeon
>what about traps? any cool ideas on that?
i wish to use traps but not in the usual way skyrim does,i don't want the to just be there to be an obstacle for the player, i want to use them in a way that makes the player think
>what are your favourite dungeons? from any media, videogames, tabletop roleplaying games or wathever
>do you know any dungeon layout i should check out?
anyway sorry for my broken english and thank you in advance for any ideas you can bring to the table
>>

/tg/ dungeons and /v/ dungeons, especially for Skyrim aren't really the same OP. In /tg/ you have to keep players interested, so there is much more stuff like planning your next moves, many skill checks and situations for different characters to excel at, more complicated riddles and traps etc. And usually less fighting then in a video game.

Skyrim dungeons(with no offense for the game itself) are basically slash your way through hordes of enemies (or stealth shoot them if you're an edgelord/pussy), avoid some obvious traps and get loot at the end.

What I'm trying to say is, you might get some cool ideas for your dungeon here, but /tg/ way of doing stuff usually doesn't translate well into /v/.

Is it just me, or are rules for melee weapon power/fuel supplies rarer than they should be ?

Sure, a solid metal sword isn't going to need ammo. But what about a chainsword or energy blade ?

The energy field and/or motor would need to be powered by something. But the rules just have them running forever. Even when the same system expects you to track ammo use for things like a long-las in 40Krpgs, which hold enough shots in a standard power cell that you're not likely to need to swap power cells unless you jam the gun or are stuck on a low tech planet for a while.

Why do melee weapons rarely get fuel/power supply rules ?

Are there any melee weapons with fuel/power supply rules that are worth using compared to the other weapons available in that system/setting ?

For an example of a weapon with power supply rules that isn't worth using, look to the Sollex-aegis energy blade from DH1 (Inquisitiors Handbook). A Power Sword is better than an Energy blade in all but a few, unlikely, scenarios.

>>
Lasguns can fire a hundred shots or so from a dinky power pack that charges in sunlight.

I don't think the power needed for a relatively small motor or an energy field generator, that can be switched on or off when needed, are so demanding that they can't have a similar system.

I'd think that that would be why they don't really have rules for such things. If you really want to I guess you could say they get x amount of uses from each power source or whatever before they have to replace it.
>>
>>49255565
>he wants to bloat the rules further

It's assumed that people take enough energy/power/ammo for their weapons before heading into a fight.
>>
40k power weapons were made by space masons and need no charging/power cells past what they have in them.

Chainswords are pretty much trash tier weapons that already have time for cells listed.

Okay, you know what gets me mad? Fantasy armies. Almost never magic has any influence on how armies look. There are people who can turn stones into mud, but armies still hide in stone castles. They can chug fireballs, but armies fight in tight formations.
Have you ever done something to correct how armies fight with magic?

Pitched battle is a fool's endeavour. Guerilla war all the things. Nothing but wizards with small groups of fighters near them for physical protection.
>>
>>49255492
Again, it depends on the fucking setting.

One setting has rocket tag mages, so they use peasants as radar to look for the enemy mage. Others where magic is common as fuck, they interspersed within the army to create barriers and wards against turning stone to mud. And settings where magic is rare as fuck, mages have a gentleman's agreement to not interfere in mortal affairs.
>>
>>49255512
This is the solution. Because of the lack of reliable communications on an accessible scale, we need to devolve decision-making down to highly self-sufficient groups operating largely autonomously across a wide frontier. I think it would be quite the adventure. Perhaps we should call them adventurer groups.
