So how have your solo roleplaying games been going, /tg/? Any good experiences?
Are you going system-less, or are you using some GM emulator in addition to a rules set?
I'm currently running a solo Deathwatch game using RPG Solo and the flash Mythic MGE. I wouldn't use RPG Solo if I had the choice, but I've found that flash Mythic MGE is biased towards "yes" in its decisions. I use it for managing story threads and scenes, whereas I keep RPG solo for binary questions and descriptions.
So far we've been shot down by orks on our way to protect a planetary governor's palace from chaos space marines, and we just killed their warboss in a desperate-- albeit successful-- last stand.
Also, I find it's much more fun to do when you write down the adventure as if it were a story, as opposed to "playing" it. Really helps with muh immersions.
So what about you, anon?
As a fa/tg/uy who doesn't have many friends who are also fa/tg/uys, this thread speaks to me.
I've used this system for some solo roleplayan, pretty fun but can be very deadly. used in combination with google maps street view. You walk around and the world generates random shit / encounters based on what you see.

Sorry, I'm a newfag to this board. What's this for?
>>49220881
If people are not lucky enough to have a group of friends outside of the internet to play games with, they come here to play shitty and short-lived games with /tg/.
Sometimes it even works out, and they get a long-lasting group. Sometimes.
>>49220909
That'd be nice. I'm not a fan of online games though, since there is less dimensions to gameplay.
So what is your favorite fantasy race and why?
which is your least favorite and why?
lastly what is your opinion on none standard races such as pandarians or other beastial races?
orcs/gnoll cuz I'm edgelord like that
elves though only in a "I don't like playing them" way
Sure
>>49302977
i agree on the elves get bring little to the talbe of appeal and im not sure who to play them either
>>49302954
I like Goblins, and I use them a lot.
Hey /tg/, I've got a thought experiment for you today.
Given the date and the outburst of fresh conspiracy theories, I want to know what the minds of /tg/ would have come up with.
So - your goal is simple.
Bring down the towers efficiently and sow the most fear. What do you do?
I'll get the ball rolling:
>Pre-infiltrate the towers, load up explosives on each level.
>Use an obnoxious assault like crashing a plane into the towers to hide the demolitions work
>World thinks plane brought down the towers
>Security around flights rises
>No-one realises that it was the bombs that brought them down
>Can easily repeat the procedure because everyone's looking the wrong way.
What would you have done?
>>49301594
>Build 2 "planes" (actually cruise missiles with wings attached)
>Make up a bunch of "passengers" to be on the "planes"
>Strike the towers, citizens below obviously horrified
>Towers come down naturally because they were hit by fucking missiles
>Pay a couple blokes to be "relatives" of the "passengers" for later interviews
>hijack 2 planes
>crash them into the towers
simple
>>49301672
>convince someone else to hijack two planes and smack them into the towers
even better
How well-written are your female characters?
>>49295369
Female characters only there for skeletons to marry and have consensualPIV sexwith on their honeymoons.
>>49295369
As well as my male ones.which means not very well
How do you write a female character well?
Where did the entire "single demonic arm" fantasy gimmick start?
You see this fairly often in Japanese media, but it shows up in Western works and even tabletop RPGs as well.
Off the top of my head, one of D&D 4e's character themes (Misshapen) gives you such an arm, the 4e Dungeon Master's Guide 2 has a sidebar on a Sigilian street urchin with a demon arm, Pathfinder Path of War's fiendbound marauder archetype has this arm, and one of the two human entries in 13th Age's core bestiary has a demon arm.
Do enough people really consider it a power fantasy or a horrific curse to have a single demonic arm?
>>49292439
It shows up MUCH more in Japanese-inspired works then American ones, especially the type you're talking about where the limb has actual superpowers the rest of the body has not.
The earliest example in Western fantasy that I can find is the comic Claw the Unconqured, in which the Conan-knockoff hero has a deformed, claw-like left hand that otherwise functions exactly like his other arm.
The examples you cited are all from the late 00's, which while some time ago now is well over seven or eight years after anime increasingly became consumed by the American public.
I don't know exactly where the Japanese thing for it comes from, beyond a desire for artists to draw their character's differently.

Pirates.
Later picked up and expanded on because it provides and interesting asymmetry.

In the west the weapon is seen as tool of the warrior. In eastern literature it is an extension of his honor, soul or will, in a way an integral part of the warrior. Thus combining depiction warrior and weapon is the next step in this philosophy. Another usage of the motif is piloting giant robots.
Why don't we see these more? It seems like punch daggers are unique to India. Why?
I think they look kind of stupid and they appear unwieldy aside from cutting.
I'd rather use a scimitar/chakram/fists
Aren't they assassin's weapons? Honestly diamond dust works to, if you got the time.
As for punch daggers, it comes down to reach, you have to get close enough to punch someone, that means you're in there reach longer than them in yours.
And a normal dagger can do the same thing, and more.
Katars are fucking great. I remember in D&D my DM gave a feat that let you do bleed damage with a Katar. So my character loaded up on two of them. We were fighting this cult with both male and female members and we would usually kill the male members first and avoid hitting the female cultists. Then I'd punch them with the Katars and kill any healers and watch them bleed. It was only 1 hp per second so it took a pretty long time and they had shitty healing skill so they couldn't stop it. So 1 hp per round times they had like 30 hit points so it took them a good 3 minutes to bleed to death. That was a great campaign.
Kars, the Perfect lifeform, gets dropped onto some random Imperial world.
What happens?
A combination of more dumb jojo spam with another shitty 40k crossover thread.
All you need is to throw in some elf slave what do and this would be the worst thread ever made.

Eventually an a deathwatch kill-team is assembled to deal with the xenos creature. Heavy losses are sustained, but through guile, bravery and sacrifice the xenos is lead to a mechanicum manufactorum and testing chamber for a melta cannon is use to incinerate the creature.
Hey Guys,
Some friends and I want to work up a list of ideas or tips for how to improve yourself as both a player and a GM. We've seen plenty of 'Advice for new Player/DMs' type podcasts, videos and lists. We're looking for things that will take us the next step, from Novice to Intermediate.
What can you offer, fa/tg/uys and ca/tg/irls? What advanced wisdom or advice have you garnered that most people don't consider?
>>49301422
Some examples to get people started, based on others I've asked:
1. Player Autonomy. Don't be afraid of it. If they've come up with a better solution to your puzzle than what you thought of, don't be afraid to lie and say "You're right, well done." There's nothing wrong with using the players ideas if they make the game better.
2. When in doubt or unsure how to proceed, it's okay to ask for a momentary break. You're one person, they're multiple. Tell them to get a sandwich while you think about what should come next. You won't have thought of every possible reaction or result to what they're doing, so don't act like you have.
Involve as many senses in description of areas as you can. Instead of "You enter the forest", do somethin like "Dead leaves crunch under your boots as you enter the forestl, the potent smell of the fauna and flora threatening to overwhelm you.
A good place to start with GMing advice is to read the Game Master's Guide section of the RPG you wish to play. The guide should include how to run the game.
From there, familiarize yourself with the rules of the game.
Your first game is going to be awful. There is no avoiding your first game sucking, nor your second. How a GM gets good, is by practicing for years on end.
Also, try playing with a group that has no idea how to play RPGs either. They're not going to notice the difference between a good and a bad GM. But if you play together long enough, you'll all improve.
Your job as the GM is to run the game. As you get lazier, you'll find yourself finding shortcuts to making things easier and easier.
Once you get familiar with being in the GM's shoes, that's when all the GM advice stuff will really start to make sense.
Just remember, the players as a whole want to like you and your game. They will do what they can to have fun in your game. Just remember that you as the GM need to be having fun too.
GMing is like sex, you don't have to be good at it to enjoy it.
>a fleet of alien spaceships appear in orbit and broadcast messages to Earth
>they say that we are now part of the galactic federation
>as a member, we are obligated to send a representative to the galactic senate and supply the federation with any technological innovations we have come up with the other species do not have
>in return they will share advanced technology and give us a little bit of a say in the running of the Federation
In this situation, how would we choose who to send as a representative? Would the UN decide?
>>49298788
Really man, that's a dumb question. It probably wouldn't be anyone famous, it would be some dignatary chosen based on his qualifications, likely a western guy because things are a bit biased that way. But there would be ugly, convoluted politics involved.
Like, honestly, if it was a team of 5 delegates? There's a good chance the Saudi would push for one of them to be a Sand-nigger towel head with 11th century religious views to make us all collective shamed. And if you doubt that, Saudi Arabia has, or is about to have, a representative on the HUMAN RIGHTS commission on the UN. I mean it. The country that beheads people for stuff like self defense against rape and which has endemic honor killings.
So yes, it would be a shameful and boring choice.
But you probably want the meme answer so...
Hurr durr it would be Jhon Cena / Mat Ward / Your mom...
>>49298866
Why would I want a meme answer, whatever that is?
I'm working on a backstory for a sci fi campaign and this is part of the timeline. I confused myself trying to work out how we would choose a representative so I decided to ask here.
>>49298788
>>49298923
The simple answer is, we wouldn't send a single representative, we'd send a delegation. One person might be the official representative, but he'd be supported and overseen by a large staff which would consist of officials and experts from multiple countries. The rep would either be an American, or someone the Americans trust, and the support team would be drawn from the permanent members of the security council and probably some folks from the G8 or G20.
The formal process for choosing the Rep would probably be delegated to the UN, just because it's the only institution setup to handle that kind of global political wrangling. If there is too much drama in the General Assembly to get a Rep and delegation chosen, then permanent Security Council members would probably just come to an agreement among themselves and dictate terms to the rest of the world.

My players want to use Autoguns instead of lasguns. Wat do?
>>49267331
Let them? I don't see why not. They'll have supply chain issues, but they'll be more versatile. Give it a slight discount and have it replace their Main Weapon.
>>49267331
Let them do it. There were a few posts in the last thread that covered how not different they really are.
Hell, aside from autoguns having access to fully-automatic fire and their lack of the LVS, the only difference between them is their damage type. The damage code is even EXACTLY THE SAME.

Roleplaying games tend to be overwritten for a variety of reasons. They're commercial products and there needs to be enough stuff there to validate people paying substantial amounts of money for the books. Game designers can also get caught up in coming up with what are cool ideas in theory, but which, when combined, create a clunky game. There are two parts of this. First, there's a thing like how your college professors assign homework, where, sure, you can easily afford to spend 12 hours of work a week doing the stuff they've assigned, but things start to break down when you combine that with what your other professors are assigning as well. So a super-sophisticated encumbrance system is okay when it's the thing you're focusing on, but when it's just one of a hundred subsystems your game needs to run, all with the same amount of complexity, that's a real problem.
The second part of this is simply the presupposition of a level of system mastery that only long-time veterans and game designers should be assumed to have. So maybe that encumbrance subsystem would work okay with all the other subsystems in the game, if you already instinctively knew your way around everything. But for even people who are aware of all the basic rules, but who might have to look up the exact figures for things, or who have to at least pause and think to remember how things go, shit can be a real clusterfuck.
All of this argues for a set of rules that is fairly short & accessible. (Maybe that set of rules could be expanded with supplements, but those supplements shouldn't be necessary, and the game shouldn't feel limited without them.) In the realm of D&D, Moldvay Basic (B/X) fits this bill. It's two different sets (Basic and Expert, covering levels 1-3 and 4-14, respectively), each of which is a mere 64 pages long and covers everything from character creation, monsters and spells to magical treasure. Outside of D&D, there are even lighter games, like Barbarians of Lemuria.
>>49305071
5e is rules-medium for a highly-sophisticated and intricate genre of games. It's not by any means a quick-and-easy starter game (though if you just use the freebie basic rules, shit is a bit simpler).
