Challenged myself to try portraits after getting bored of the same shit over and over.
I'm not good at it, at some point I'll get better.
This is just a cropped portion of the picture anyway.
Do you think there's anything to do I can make this air look less greasy and sticky?

>air
Meant hair.
Well for starters you can have it be in focus
>>2920245
Yeah, that.
I don't know why I had trouble with that.
I think I shot this pic 4-5 time trying to get a composition that I liked and only one has the subject in focus.
Of course it's the one I don't like.

shampoo.
is this troll thread or the board level went to the drainer? i remember seeing better begginer posts.

Pretty sure this is a troll thread, but it's funny because I literally got on here to post the same thing!
Never done portraits before, always just took pictures that I want to see. Recently decided to try my hand at Portraits since it's something new and I don't want to be one of those "photographers" who stagnate and never improve. Any tips/tricks/advice for someone wanting to get into portraits?
Pic related is one of the shots from my first attempt. The hair blends too much with the background, I suppose I need a lighter backdrop. Tell me what I'm doing wrong and educate me on where I need to go with it.

You probably could've went with a medium gray backdrop instead, still dark but you'd be able to see his features better against it.
I'd also recommend shooting at a narrower aperture. It can get pretty difficult to focus properly on the eyes (they look out of focus here but it may be his glasses) at such a low aperture, not to mention you're using lights and he's still. shoot at like F2.8 at least so it's sharper and actually properly in focus.

I always shoot a black backdrop in the studio because it's all I have and one or two kicker lights is all you need to make it work

something looks off on that guy. like he is disguised.

Posture. He kinda slouches naturally, not back straight like that. It's an unnatural pose for him and it shows.
