Pretty sure the Tour Divide isn't the hardest cycling event in the world… just saying.

Hey /fit/, /lit/ here. I recently had the bicycle that I ride to work with stolen; now I'm looking for a new one. Are there any cyclist here to let me know if this is a bad deal or not? Thanks, faggots.

Do you guys have any friends who are fat ask you if the reason why you are skinny is because you ride your bicycle?
I have had several fatties ask me and I've told them that cycling has nothing to do with it, I used to be a former fatty but I lost all of the weight via counting calories - sure, cycling helps keep the weight off by burning some calories but when you're fat cycling sucks compared to being thin.
I owe losing 50 lbs to riding. No calorie counting involved, just a lot of riding. I also have significantly larger thighs compared to my m8s who started from a skinny physique.
My experience is the opposite. When I'm commuting I can't keep weight on, to the point where I take days off to eat and get some fat on me. High metabolism problems
Yes, and I tell them they're right, because it's true
So, I know you'll probably think I'm retarded or something, but this morning my bike felt very differently. Pedalling felt really stiff and bumpy, hard to describe. I looked at the chain and noticed that it has become very rusty (the last few days were sort of rainy).
Pic related. It's an old road bike, probably as old as I am, but I like it very much. So what I'm really asking is: How bad/urgent does this look? Do I need to buy a completely new chain or can I do something with the old one? What about the gear? I'd just do it myself as good as I can, but last time I did that I ended up in a coma for a week, so I'd kind of appreciate an opinion from someone who actually knows his shit.

>>989448
Inevitable if you ride consecutive days in the rain, not a huge deal. Lube it, ride, lube again. Do not attempt to scrape it clean or degrease with a chain cleaner.
It might need to be replaced, there's no way to tell with those pictures. What determines chainwear isnt rust, but how much the chain has stretched. You need a chain wear checker to see if it's time to replace, a simple one pictured to the left.
>>989448
Fresh rust on chain is usually purely cosmetic. It should suffice if you oiled the chain, rode some, cleaned the chain to take off gunk and lube it again.
What do gears on a bike even do?
They more efficiently channel the energy from your legs.

as dumb as it sounds i've always set both little dials to L
it doesnt make much sense to me
two dials
right side goes from H to L top to bottom makes sense
left one goes from L to H top to bottom
I don't get it
never got it as a kid
wish i could just convert it to a fixie
>>989358
H & L? What the fuck?
Regardless, what's to understand? One changes the gears from large to small in the front, and the other in the back?
You might want to downshift coming up a hill so it's easier to turn the pedal; because while you're getting less power out of that downshift, you're keeping the momentum of the pedal, which can be more important at this point. (Rather than keep that higher power output in a higher gear, but be unable to complete a pedal.)
You should be able to pretty much feel out whatever gear you need to be in, senpai.
The cherry on the shit sundae is how the renamed Dorval after the fucker who tried to replace it.

Can you recommend me a bicycle for the country side? Some streets, some farm roads, some gravel path, some small hills. I like to ride 1-3 hours every day.
Nothing too crazy. Everything under 700$ would be fine.

For that money you're better off buying used
Cyclo cross.
I have recently got a bike with a presta valve and was wondering if I put these on top of my presta valves and a dust cap for a schrader and put it on top would it be worth doing?
>>992454
Why do you not just have the caps for the presta valves? Just go them, you can probably get a fucking dozen for a couple bucks.
Presta valves don't need dust caps. You can put one of those adapters on one of your valves in case you have to pump your tires somewhere else and don't have a Presta compatible pump.
I have loads of these adapters and loads of standard dust caps so it won't hurt doing it?

Guys, is this a good first road bike?

+ Complete 105 11-SPD (save for the Tiagra hubs)
+ It's blue
+ It's $925 / 825€
- Heavy as fuck rims (Remerx Taurus 550 g) and tires (Nitro 2 360 g)
- Frame quality???
I've been looking at other bikes from more reputable companies (Specialized, Canyon, Radon, Trek, Merida, CUBE, etc.) in this price range but they usually come equipped with Claris, Sora, rarely Tiagra and come with off-brand brakes. Yes, the CTM is just a rebranded Taiwanese alloy frame, but it looks nice, has a tapered fork, threaded BB and modern geo. I can save 300 g on the tires right away and the wheels I can change next year or something if I so desire. What do /n/omads think? Is this a good deal?
Try Fuji. You can get set up with full 105 for a little less and they're great bikes Imo. Or just buy that one and ride the shit out of it. Looks cool AF.
>>991870
try planetX bikes some of them are fairly cheap and have built to order bikes, or even rose bikes as then you can spec it to how you want.
There's only one problem; it doesn't have flat bars!
Seriously, just buy the bloody thing. There's nothing wrong with it.
Sup /n/erds.
A woman is having me tune up this Yo Eddy, make some adjustments and stuff for her (Haven't done it yet, hence the flat tires). I know more about road bikes, and not much about mountain, but what little searching I did says that these were pretty sought after bikes. She got it in Montana, and knows its a great bike, but I didn't hear much more about it. Curious if you guys know more.
Also, not sure if it's obvious, but this is one from the 90's, not the recent return that the company had

>i said id fix it but then i heard it might be worth mad benjamins
Tyrone, give the woman her bike back before you do something she'll regret.

I used to work with her, she knows where I live, I can't steal it. Nor would I. It's way too damn small for me, nor am I a monkey who would rip someone off. I like bikes, and I'm doing a favor.
