Does anybody still make bikes exactly like the old 80s-90s fully rigid MTBs anymore?

Seems like there would be a good market for them between retrogrouches and people who want something that is basically the AK-47 of the bike world.

There are so many of them in the used market they have no value. $50 will get you the bombproof frame and possibly all working parts

Surly makes the Troll. It's 26" - but it's x10 more expensive for the frame alone... only benefit is dick brake option, 26+ clearance, and eyelets all over it
>>

80-90's rigid MTB's aren't that strong though. I've broken off canti mounts, bent steer tubes and bent a few frames and that's not even riding hard, just city commuting. A modern $150 frame and a $50 rigid fork will out-perform and outlast any late 80's or 90's MTB. The disc brakes, modern geo and modern groupset are worth it.

What's your opinion about narrow gauge railways? Would you see them as a legit transport option, not just a tourist thing?
I'd like to see a one in my region connecting growing villages to the city where continue journey to the capital city.

They're railways, but the rails are closer apart.

Narrow gauge railways were built for a need that is better solved with other options. Narrow gauge was laid where there was a need for transportation of some sort, but cutting, grading, and laying a full-sized railway, even light rail, would have been cost-prohibitive. That situation is as easily or better handled by using trucks now. Where even a 2-ft. railway needs some sort of grading and right-of-way, a lot of off-road trucks don't even need established paths to get from A to B, fully loaded.

is it practical to make a flintstones car styled mechanism for transport in real life? like halfway between running and driving. I think it would help lose weight and be THE most enviromentally friendly option for cars beating out even electric ones

Moving to Seattle in a week. What is indispensable advice for riding in the rain, but more specifically, what kind of care will I need post-riding? Would like to keep my CAAD3 in the excellent condition it's currently in.

Things I already have in mind: fenders and led lights.

How to prevent frame/components from rusting?

Not going to buy a new bicycle. I'm not so much concerned about riding in rain, as much as I am of it fucking up my frame/components with rust. I hope to not be forced to use public transit
>>
aluminum frames don't rust, although components can, depending on the materials.. clean them after each ride, there are not many more options

Someone tried to steal my bike last night and all they accomplished was that they destroyed my frame. Everything else is okay but with 3 years of wear and tear. Originally the bike cost €900.

What are my options? I have a intact carbon fork. Should I buy a new frame or a new bike?
23 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Your best bet might be to sell the components and buy a new bike... But ikd, we can't really give you a definite answer for this. If you can get a half decent frame cheap (second hand, ebay, whatever) that'll obviously be the best solution. Just bear in mind that you can get a whole new bike with a carbon fork and full 105 11speed groupset for €1000 - €1300...
>>
>>993215
I might sell it for parts then. I like the idea of having a new bike to cycle around on.

Once, drunkenly, after a house party in an affluent suburb. Friend grabbed a folding bike from down a driveway, we rode it the half hour ride home, taking turns being passenger on the rack. I tried to take a bike from down the side of a house, but it had flat tyres.

Was pretty fun ride home and it became his main form of transport for a few months.

is this flat bar becoming more popular on roadies? Why does Sagan use it insted of the compact bend? what are the advantages - comfort obviously isnt.

btw I have atraditional bend on my steel hipstermobile and its uncomfortable as shit, barely use the drops thanks to it

Personal preference really. They also look good and like the name implies, it's a nod to tradition. Just like tan wall tires and wearing black shorts with the WC jersey. Dude is a class act. I think he uses a modern bend bar on occasion though.
>>
Stop being a pleb.

Traditional drops are far mor comfortable, if they arent then you need your bike to be properly fitted m8. That or grt some flexibility

Compact is better
Traditional is worse

It's legal, at least in the UK. Don't know about other countries.

You have to be very careful though. Common sense.

Lads, I have a MTB that I love dearly but I want more speed (and don't care about comfort much). It honestly feels like the bike itself is a limiting factor at this point (I squat a lot).

Can I replace it's stock wheels/tires with road bike wheels/tires? Should I get bigger gears?

I mainly ride packed trails with roots and stones + city commute (lots of jumping to and fro curbs).

Sounds like the limiting factor isn't so much your muscles as it is your brain

Ever consider a bike computer? Sometimes "feels like I'm going really fast" is rather different from "going fast". If you just want to feel like you're going fast, ride through gridlock traffic, you'll feel like a badass. If you want to actually fast, obstacles are generally not going to help with that.

that's called a hybrid, ESPECIALLY if it has a triple crank
