Why are late medieval art and iconography so much better than art movements from periods after them such as renaissance, romanticism, neoclassicism, etc? They look so much more divine, mystic, and less sexualized. They're a worship of God rather than human form. Why did people become so degenerate? What went wrong? Was it humanism?

>They're a worship of God rather than human form
Isn't man made in god's image? Celebration of the human form is a celebration of the divine.
this is the stupidest post ive ever read

Not really, christianity isn't pantheistic. There is/was this thing called humility, where the human beauty, power, and knowledge are not something to be glorified.
Can you correct that foot or redraw ?
I know it's wrong, but I do not know why
feet don't work that way, broseph.. they aren't made out of rubber.
The foot bends in a very unrealistic way, like the other anon stated, rubbery.
What's also frightening is how dark the lines of the foot appear in relation to everything else, which means erasing your mistake will be a bitch. In general I'd recommend drawing more clean lines, as yours are pretty scratchy. tl;dr - The degree in which the foot is bent is physically impossible without a broken ankle.
I hate drawing feet. I can barely get them right half the time. I'd suggest erasing and starting over. Focus on drawing *exactly* what you see in the ref as opposed to drawing how you think it looks. That's where things went wonky. It's super frustrating but keep trying! Like other people said, make sure you draw it at the right angle... the one in the OP looks like it's hanging wrong.
Someone brought up a good point, I want to become better at drawing, so I practice my fundamentals, do figure drawing, all that stuff. I get mentally exhausted after studying and drawing. I can't exactly bring myself to draw more in my breaktime for that day. Is that really going to detriment my path to getting better?
>>2691281
Depends on how you retain your practice.
Some people are good about mentally learning the information and then physically applying it to their personal work; if you're good at this, you'll be fine.
If you can't do this easily, then finding a more efficient method of application would help you. If you like videos, watch videos; if you're a kinesthetic learner, come up with a project and apply elements of what you're learning as opposed to just drawing plates or figures. Make something up, and pay attention to your mistakes-- rinse, repeat.
>>2691281
It is. Study shouldn't be a draining experience. Find a way to combine it with what you'd draw during your break time.
When I was new at painting, I learned the fastest by opening up a cool master painting that was completely unrelated to what I was doing and used it as a guide to how I should push my work and solve problems within the painting. Since it was a subject matter I liked I'd have a lot of fun and retain everything. Much less dull than doing a straight up master study and you get the same things you would out of it. Or another example, is Kim Jung Ji's drawing exercises to develop more spatial sense. I really like people and fantasy creatures fighting so I'd base the block studies off that theme and it was less of a drag. As for figure drawing, old /ic/fags and I would go to /soc/ and get people to strip for us and pose on cam in exchange for a free portrait drawing from a few of us when the session was done. Laughs all around.
These of course are just examples, your likes aren't the same as mine so take it easy the next few days to figure out some fun things you can do.
>>2691281
Draw some lighter/normal stuff and get back to the harder stuff a few days later when it has sunk in and you could think enough about it. Also you will often find tricks to not have to do things as mentally exhausting. But if you try to force yourself in a mentally exhausted state you may miss a lot of things, because you are too tired.

I don't know how this came out sideways, the question still stands

Perspective, doesn't have to be too intense. Then pic anything that interests you the most imo.

you holded the phone horizontally when taking a picture with it, the same way I am going to jam it up your ass
when will you guys learn how to hold your phone when taking a picture?
I just started drawing commissions, and now after I've finished my first one, received payment and everything was OK, the client asked me to send him the PSD file.
Should I send it? If no, why not?
What could go wrong?
>>2691650
Never done commissions but the client having the psd file could lead to the client being able to claim that they made the painting/drawing.
>>2691650
- merge all layers, make the psd same pixel size as jpg file you sent, or maybe 25% bigger.
- if asked why only one layer you say you constantly merge layers as you work
>>2691656
Or client is simply curious how that picture was made.
I have a bit of moolah to burn but don't have a proper drawing device, so I'm considering the ipad pro + apple pencil combo.. Does anyone here have any experience with it, is it worth it?
I have the 9.7" iPad Pro, as well as an Intuos 3.
The Pencil itself is every bit as good as the Wacom pen. Slightly worse tilt sensitivity but better control of the tilt thanks to the larger tip. The default pressure sensitivity is imo much better than Wacom on the lower end, but worse on the upper end since it takes way too much force to reach full pressure. You can fine-tune pressure curves in individual apps, so this isn't a big problem.
Whether it's worth it or not will depend on your expectations. It's the best solution for a digital sketchbook you're going to find. You can do full paintings on it (especially the bigger model), but you're still running a mobile OS. It's not a desktop or even a Cintiq replacement.
>>2691185
Save money, buy a companion instead. Or get a normal tablet. The ipad pro isn't bad but like the above poster said its OS is mobile so you're not going to be running any heavy duty drawing apps. I mean there's still decent ones but you'de do better with something that can run PS, SAI or w/e.
>>2691185
I tried it out and the apple pencil is a fair bit heavier and thinner than a wacom stylus, so it definitely feels different and I'd probably be more wary of dropping it for that reason, the wacom stylus is so light dropping it doesn't do much damage to it or the floor so that's one thing to consider. You have to charge it unlike a wacom stylus, but it behaves much more like a real pencil, you can shade with the side which is very nice and something wacom has never bothered to address.
Procreate, is a pretty awesome piece of software though, the perspective tools blow anything photoshop can offer out of the water, it's almost worth getting for that alone, it's so easy to set up a grid and you can snap your lines to the grid if you want, if you're an environment guy then check it out, although I think it's a separate plugin that costs like $1.50
I also like the fact that the procreate software saves your entire process as a video so you can upload that to youtube if that kind of thing appeals to you, it offers some really nice features at quite a low price point. But I recommend that you try it for yourself and see if you like it.
does drawing get more fun as you get better?
i'm just about getting jobs from my work, but drawing only feels as fun as it did when i started. i still look up to true pro artists and think about how i would want to draw every hour of the day if i could do what they do, but i probably said the same thing about the level i'm at now..
>>2689854
It becomes a little more gratifying, but not better in the sense were you'll love it more and automatically see it as fun. If you're not having fun when you start then why do it at all. Besides, you won't get better if you're not passionate about it. You might as well be doing something you actually enjoy.
Almost everyone I know who went from shit to pro just had fun and drew what they liked, while applying what they learned and got entry level within 2-3 years.
>>2689854
My motivation isn't drawing itself, but being able to draw my imagination, my creativity on the paper, not sure if it's right...
>>2689860
I've hit where you were before, buddy. In that case, take a break from drawing, and do some light sketches while you pick up something else, say writing. I'm not saying write a novel, but make some fun characters and do some light world building. Maybe even think of funny scenarios you'd maybe like to sketch out. It's helped my creative process a lot more. If you get something almost solid together maybe you can make it into a little project. Drawing can get more fun when you're working towards something.
im currently making a vampire hunter comic in Victorian era but how do i start it any ideas?
>>2691692
To draw a good comic you don't have to know much about drawing (see original One Punch Man), but you simply have to have excellent composition and timing.
To learn that you can start with reading books written by Scott McCloud (like "Understanding Comics") and "Framed Ink".
If you already know this stuff, then the first step of making a comic would be writing a script and drawing roughs.

Prove it. And consider that they're working on tight deadlines. Shit like this needs to be done within a day.
What in this should I improve on? Aspiring to draw manga better but I need insight into it.
>>2691258
Forget about shading and color, just practice linework for now.
Your goal is to do many sketches of that level or higher within a reasonable time. You can spend 1hr doing multiple light sketches vs 1 full study, not saying you shouldn't put effort.
Things to focus on
-figures and poses
-hands
-faces
-look at good artist,illustrator
If any more Qs just ask away.

Whenever I have to do detail work, such as with an ink pen or draw a line slowly my hand shakes pretty badly and I can't keep it still. Is there any way to stop my hand shaking when I try to do delicate or detailed work? Am I doomed to not being able to draw because of this? Picture unrelated.
>>2689344
Well if you don't want to use a tool that will keep your hand steady, like those elbow canes and stuff like that, or even use your finger to anchor your hand on the paper, you might want to improve your muscle tone.
Start lifting weight and do straight line excersizes, where you draw a series of straight lines for a prolonged period of time, trying to make them as parallel as possible. Make sure to specifically start and stop your hand, so there's no hooks at any end of your line.
Looking into a powerball might improve your wrist strength, so just try all or any of the above and mark the improvement.
It might seem boring, but it's the mechanical grind you have to do if you want to improve your control.
>>2689352
Never heard of the cane before, I'll look into that a d the ball. I've been meaning to get back into lifting, too. Thanks anon.

Why does this look like a painting of the stupid as fuck statue from the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 2?
Be honest: Would you be prefer having a Fletcher-style teacher instructing you or not?
It would help a crap load, but I would rather I had an ara-ara comfy teacher instead.

Being too hard on myself is probably the main reason I haven't improved as much as I could. If I make even one mistake, I get too angry to even continue practicing.
Im working on a project and I'm trying to find and old-style woodblock print of a man doing calligraphy with a giant brush. Shown is an example of the style I'm looking for.
And here is a man doing calligraphy with a giant brush. Any help is much appreciated!
