When will computing advance to a level where we can create a 'hand draw' style and aesthetic digitally?
Bad news buddy, but japs still hand-draw their animation for the most part.
That's just the current style of anime being inferior
I honestly can't tell which one is supposed to be the superior version
We are perfectly capable of doing that and has been for quite a while.
It's just that no one wants to do that.
Hey guys, what kind of drawing exercises do you do when you don't feel like drawing anything in specific?
Drawing boxes, drawing lines, drawing animals.
Googling "pose references" and do simple gesture drawings.
hey, I want to make a discord group, an anon recently made a thread about it and I came to see if anyone here wants to be in a committed discord group (since discord is a friendly place and you donĀ“t have to drama queen to be able to use it)
rules
>you have to show your work
>you have to do a study every week and be open for critique, if not you are out.
>no NSFW allowed
>you can talk about depression and your ex gf but not like an autist
>you are highly recommended to post all you did on a tumblr or on LAS but you don't need to do so, only one piece per week is ok
post your discord username if you want to join
this is just a group for the critique of studies and the like, for sharing resources and shalalala since las doesn't have a critique system I guess
it means you enter once in a week or so, or every day or so and ask for critique, you get it and you are back to drawing after casually chatting.
recomended software
StayFocused
will add you duys later in the day, when I come back to chek on u
or probably just now
I think it's better to post the room link here

Will do when I wake up. Right now I'm sleeping
>wanting to hang out even more with bitter depressed people who can't draw
how do i get away from my chicken scratch non committal line habit when sketching?
i keep trying to make sure the proportion and shape, etc is right and dont commit to solid lines and just do short chicken scratchy line bullshit, is there a process or exercise to get away from this? Anyone else know what i mean?
dunno senpai
Go over the line multiple times*, you'll get it eventually.
*each time being one fluid line, not feathering
Start drawing in pen
A good exercise to practice your lines is to draw a line or curve on a piece of paper and go over again 8 times. Crank a few pages out, and you'll notice your lines getting more and more precise with each one.
A4, pen

He said "m" can't you read dude?
Have you had any luck buying cheap supplies from aliexpress? Share some finds and gems
>>2675711
Obviously for art-related materials. They sell a lot of brushes, paints, pens, markers and probably other obscure shit I can't find. No india ink that I could find though.
The Jinhao makes very cheap knockoffs of various brands that are good quality.
Jinhao 159 is a Montblanc 149
Jinhao 599 is a Lamy Safari
and more if you google.

I just got this kit for less than 10ā¬.
It's from Bianyo, they have a neat store on AliExpress and the reviews convinced me to buy this, I needed something to start with.
They sell many supplies, and also manufacture/brand some.
The kit has a nice set of pencils, plus some cool stuff like charcoal and paper stumps, and comes with a simple roll-up case.
Perfect for beginners like me who couldn't achieve much with a single HB pencil.
So in 6 months the applications for design school open. Would it be possible for me to get decent enough sketching skills till then if I start from ZERO? Or will I have to way to apply next year?
>>2687256
Depends on the school, but probably it is best to wait another year regardless. If you do manage to scrape just barely into a program you won't get as much out of it as if you came in with a decent foundation.
Usually you don't have to be very good to get into those schools
>>2687262
What qualifies as decent?
Does anyone have advice for making a portfolio online? Better to use wordpress or have one designed?
What amount and what kind of work should you concentrate on displaying for an illustration market? Any other advice?
>>2686901
>Better to use wordpress or have one designed?
Use squarespace and make your own site with the domain as your name. It's the most professional way and takes no skill in building a site to get something that looks good since there are nice templates available.
>What amount and what kind of work should you concentrate on displaying for an illustration market?
Depends on what kind of illustration you want to get into. Having a focused portfolio is important. Only include your strongest pieces, it is better to have a small but strong portfolio than a large but inconsistent one.
>Any other advice?
Make it easy to contact you--have your email visible on every page of your site. It might be good to link to your tumblr or facebook or other sites you post on as well.

this is a good resource in general, but they talk a lot about portfolios.
>>2686901
It depends on who you're trying to bait, it's not a broad display.
This is a shitty cell phone pic of a drawing I've been inking/markering today. I'll take a proper scan later. Let me know if there are any glaring errors that are still fixable, please
A couple anatomical errors like purple goat's right leg, glasses girl's head and left leg. Too lazy to red line just practice your fundies
We have a draw thread man, please move there......but I do like the details on the clothes.

My apologies, I will go there with a proper scan later. Also thank you.
I've been working on this piece for a while and I need your honest opinion guys , should I go to art school?
>>2683818
Absolutely. You'll fit right in.
>>2683818
Thats deep mane

What about me guys, would I fit in?
Ever since I started taking my art to a more serious level two months ago, my previously aimless life has slowed down to where single days can seem quite long. Anyone else have similar thoughts?
I find the opposite. My most productive days go by the fastest.
I think the difference is that when you're not doing shit all the days feel like they blur together, you're basically sleepwalking through life. When you have a set goal you're working towards you have something to make use of the spare hours in your day. I've been drawing for two years and each month feels far more memorable, because I basically have a 'journal' of my artistic progress from then to now.
Yes, every single hour is important to me now, so it feels like forever for a day to end. I prefer it that way instead of rushing. I want the most time so I can make it.

This
Why is guro art frowned upon?
>>2686394
Because it's edgy and shallow
It mixes a western taboo (sex) with gore (pain).
Society is currently undergoing some of moral panic in regards to the prevalence of sex in all its forms and anything remotely controversial is frowned upon.
because sexualising torment and murder is not cool
Hey, im wondering if anybody knows about Calarts?
>(yeah, these a thread for art schools, but im considering animation, not liberal arts)
Is it worth the money? Is the animation program good? are the networking possibilities good?
> Are the students really vapid cunts?
Im able to afford their steep price but i want to know if the price is actually worth it.
I would also like to know of other good animation schools.
Please dont talk about the job opportunities of an animator, i know its not a "safe" job, but im not asking this to hear that, i want to know if its worth the money and if the community is good.
>>2686133
Calarts
Gobelins
Art Center
ringling.
I wanted to go to cal arts too but then faggotry happened.
What is this art-style called? No, I'm not referring to "anime". It's like very contemporary and urban and I used to see it all the time in cartoons when I was a kid.
>>2686131
Just another example (I know it's a bit different, but the feel is the same).
>>2686132
forgot pic oops
>>2686131
Are you talking about the pointy western like illustrations
Ala:
>Douman Seiman
>Jet set radio
>Gen Kobayashi
Is that the style you are refering to?
