I've seen stuff posted here that is much more interesting or talented, but people struggle to even get 1000 followers. I guess this kind of art really appeals to the "Williamsburg hipster girl who's fucked 20 guys and is also in $100k debt for college" better than that other stuff.

Some of my own reflections.

I love the shape design and rendering of the main trunk that the kid is standing on. I also like the way the diagonal cuts across the image.

I do feel a bit uneasy about the way it cuts off the left part of the split tree at the top. The shape feels just slightly too small to be cropped because it borders on looking like a tangent.
I would prefer if the shape either did not touch the top border or was thicker so it would feel less like a tangent.

The branch to the right to me almost looks as if it's more stylized than the twisted main trunk shape. It's more flat and graphic, almost fly swatted, and the symmetric nature of how the branches...branch out (sorry) reinforces this graphic effect. I think it would have been a more interesting composition if the branches continued to spiral diagonally into the picture it would make for a more dynamic and powerful composition, rather than just existing out to the right as they do now.

All in all, I love the style/rendering but I just think some part feels a bit incongruous.

It's a great deal better but not dramatically so.
I'd say a Cintiq isn't worth the price, but there are affordable, nearly as good options such as Yiynova and Huion.

For me, it's always been about the desire to tell a story and depict characters exactly as I envision them. It took me forever to even come close to what I see in my head when drawing. As long as you keep your reason for being a better artist in mind, you'll be motivated a lot easier.

First, make sure you actually have a legit dedicated fanbase, and then offer something premium or commission-tier. I cringe when i see 16 year old girls with horrible drawing skills but cutesy rendering offer commissions on tumblr even when they get an average of 2 notes.

That said, hentai foundry is good for porn
instagram and twitter is good for getting known
patreon is for when you're really confident people are willing to pay.

And keep in mind, this can really difficult and lucky. You're going to need to whore yourself out in all the current fanart, trends, and memes, especially memes. That's another thing, theres nothing more cringy than seeing an old sack of shit drawing something like full metal panic fanart, in 2016 and expecting to get views. Sometimes you can gain popularity overnight, others, its just months persistence, and make sure to always interact and act nice to as many artists as possible, the more popular artist you're friends with, the better.
