How do you make a background less boring? (ex: pure fucking white)

I have noticed people are getting lazier with backgrounds when working on illustrations. Is there any way to avoid the whole color blotch background filler?
>>

this is like asking "How do i design a cool original character"

Just study your favorite artists, and think about what they are doing and trying to accompolish
>>
>color blotch background filler
what is that supposed to be?

You could just place your character in a fitting scene, but keep it simple.
More a suggestion than a detailed background
>>
>>2805959

I think he means using a solid color as a background.

I say get creative anon. Sometimes you don't need a flashy background.

N...no?

I'm simply asking what are some creative alternatives to making backgrounds for a complete illustrations.

Not looking for unique, just something new and out of the norm.
>>
>>2805959

Yes what >>2806018 said.

Actually, your pic related is pretty creative method.

I'm just kinda over leaving the background blank/seeking new ways of expanding in that region.
>>
Why would you even want a background, that seems boring.

I am guessing you are mostly thinking about character illustrations?
A background gives you the opportunity to add storytelling. Where is the person? Are other people there? What's the weather like?
Even without the creation of a fully realized background there's a lot you could do. Some common things that I see a lot are: adding a horizon line, create ground and sky and add cast shadows to ground the figures, clouds/fog, implied silhouettes of people or buildings, making several same elements in various sizes and overlapping is a simple way to quickly imply depth/ establish perspective.
Maybe think about if you were to photograph someone or an object, if you could place them anwhere, where would you do it? What would be seen in the back?

You can create patterns. An element that is related to the character or its environment could be made into a pattern eg, instead of painting a street with a house on fire for your pyromaniac protagonist, it could just be one fiery inferno/wall of flames.
If you want something more abstract or decorative you can do ornaments and shit, look at artists like alphonse mucha.
Not sure if this is what you had in mind, it's pretty basic.

pic related, a simple background that isn't white. tiles are also an easy and effective way to create perspective, seeing as it is basically a grid left visible.

Yeah, actually.
I've seen alot of that done with depth, sometimes the world within the picture is much bigger than that vast of white. The grid serves as a stylized element too

You know you seem to have the right idea! Kinda spot on, do you by any chance have anymore similar visuals?

An image like this would have a completely different feel with a blank background.
